  1. Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What are you doing?
  4. A: Trying to beat Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction as fast as possible using the "no cursor" mod and no RNG manipulation.
  5.
  6. Q: What is the "no cursor" mod?
  7. A: It's a patch to the original game that removes the cursor that scans for continuous effects. The cursor is EXTREMELY annoying and time consuming while serving no practical purpose, and it's the main reason this otherwise great Yu-Gi-Oh! game is unpopular.
  8.
  9. Q: Where can I download this mod?
  10. A: http://www.mediafire.com/file/w6z2fg73di6envd/ReshefIsActuallyTolerableNow.zip
  11.
  12. Q: What is the world record?
  13. A: 7:35:05 by me.
  14.
  15. Q: How long do you expect it to take?
  16. A: 5-8 hours.
  17.
  18. Q: This doesn't look like normal Yu-Gi-Oh! What are the rules?
  19. A: The rules are similar to the TCG, but much simpler. There are no phases like Main Phase 1, Battle Phase and End Phase. Monster effects can only activate at certain times, and traps activate automatically. You can have only 5 cards in your hand, and only 1 card can be in the graveyard at a time. And finally -- most importantly -- monsters have a rock-paper-scissors system of "alignments" that allow certain monsters to automatically defeat others, regardless of ATK and DEF. For example, Kuriboh (300 ATK, Shadow alignment) always beats Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000 ATK, Light alignment).
  20.
  21. Q: Why do you use no RNG manipulation?
  22. A: RNG manipulation removes all randomness from the game, and thus all strategy. You just do certain movements and certain deck edits to always get the same duels. There is no skill in dueling or deck building.
  23.
  24. Q: What is your strategy for this run?
  25. A: In the early game, farm for 3 Bear Traps and then make frequent deck edits to gain alignment advantages over difficult opponents. In the late game, farm the China Millennium Guardians for money to buy the best cards in the game -- Dark Flare Knight, Pot of Greed, Widespread Ruin, and others. You also have access to an instant-win card -- The Winged Dragon of Ra (Phoenix Mode) for the final third of the game. Full routing notes here: https://pastebin.com/LDGXuYQ4
  26.
  27. Q: Why are you playing on English? Isn't Japanese faster?
  28. A: I strongly believe that games with major time differences between language versions should be separated on speedrun leaderboards, even if the only reason for the time difference is text length. If speedruns of text-based English and Japanese games are combined on one leaderboard, it is usually impossible for anyone to compete for a top time while playing the English version. This forces many English speakers to play a version where they (and usually their stream viewers) don't understand the text.
