  1. [15:46] Katrin says, "..."
  2. [15:46] Shatterhorn blinks
  3. (Shatterhorn)
  4. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5.
  6. [15:47] Katrin stops as she goes shuffling along- just her, herself, and all her little rusty tools at her belt- and cranes her head back to look up at Shatterhorn. She swallows hard.
  7.
  8. "Uh. Hey?"
  9. (Katrin)
  10. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  11.
  12. [15:49] The ogre towers over Katrin as his beady red eyes lock onto her. His shoulder is gouged and partially covered with crystal, and one of his horns has been recently snapped. Scars litter the ogre's body as he lumbers forward and leans down.
  13.
  14. His massive face now level with Katrin the ogre snorts and rumbles out a response. "Hello human, what you doing?" The ogre says curiously. He's not violent... yet.
  15. (Shatterhorn)
  16. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17.
  18. [15:51] Blood of dragons or no, Katrin freezes like a lowly prey animal before the looming ogre and his inquiry. One bitten- or clawed, more accurately- twice shy.
  19.
  20. "Uuuh. Well. Human, not really. If you wanna get technical. I'm just out looking for ores. And junk," she babbles, pulling back her tattered coat to show the wreath of rust shedding tools at her hips.
  21.
  22. "I know you guys live out ehre. I'm not like. Looking to pick fights and stuff. Honest."
  23.
  24. She puts her blistered hands up, palms out, in the (hopefully) universal sign of surrender.
  25. (Katrin)
  26. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  27.
  28. [15:54] Shatterhorn remains silent as his brain works overtime to process her words. Snuffling like a pig the ogre stands back up to his full height and crosses his arms. "Not human?" He sniffs at Katrin as his eyes widen. "You dragon?"
  29.
  30. Leaning down again he looks her up and down before nodding, "Hmmmm, me wonder if me should fight you... do you taste good?" The ogre was asking this question...seriously? A meaty clawed hand comes up and scratches at the lump of crystal on his shoulder as he snorts once more.
  31. (Shatterhorn)
  32. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  33.
  34. [15:57] "Yeah! I mean, something like that, sure," Katrin pipes up, tapping just beneath her eye with its slit pupil.
  35.
  36. She freezes again with a soft 'eep' as Shatterhorn begins his very open debate.
  37.
  38. "Whoa, whoa, hey, nope. I'm definitely no good for eating, I mean look at me!" she blithers, gesturing to herself. "I'm way too bony. Sooo scrawny. I wouldn't be tasty at all."
  39.
  40. Somewhere, in the afterlife, an ancestor of hers no doubt shakes their head in shame at this display of cowardice. But hey, survival is just that.
  41. (Katrin)
  42. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  43.
  44. [16:00] Shatterhorn nods his head slowly as he begins to think. His scholarly mind firing on all cylinders. "Hmmm..." Tapping on the crystal on his shoulder he gestures to the missing chunk of flesh beneath it. "Dragon did this to me... UMBRA! He tasted alright." Shatter got a piece of him, and then Umbra returned the favor.
  45.
  46. Leaning down once more a large meaty finger would poke at Katrin's chest, most likely causing her to be pushed back or to fall. "Hmmm... you are not very meaty... you sure you dragon?" The drakanites Shatter had encountered were rather formidable looking at the very least.
  47.
  48. The ogre was having an internal struggle about whether or not to eat Katrin, still undecided.
  49. (Shatterhorn)
  50. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  51.
  52. [16:03] Katrin might be tall, as many of her breed are, but she's not terribly stout besides; the little poke sends her right back onto her keister with a 'whoof'. She reaches up to rub her chest. He just -had- to go poking the wound from that occultic jackass.
  53.
  54. She is not formidable. Not in the slightest.
  55.
  56. "Well...Look. I'm fresh off the mountain. Okay? Besides. Why eat me wheeeeen...maybe I could do something for ya."
  57.
  58. She wasn't terribly wise, still young, but she did still have a few flecks of cunning to her name. Katrin tries to ply them as best she's able.
  59.
  60. "I see you got some broken horns up there, right? What if you could fix 'em. With metal or something. I'm practicing being an artificer. Maybe I could do you a favor instead of you eating me."
  61. (Katrin)
  62. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  63.
  64. [16:06] Shatterhorn raised an eyebrow. There were a few things he loved in life. Xian, food, and his horns, sadly his horns had been snapped off and shattered respectively. Leaning down right near to Katrin the ogre's beady eyes locked with hers.
  65.
  66. "You fix horns?" The ogre was rather interested. A medical kit was very hard to come by for a monster such as himself.
  67.
  68. Pausing the ogre snuffled before adding, "Me Shatterhorn, what you name skinny dragon?" They were getting to be on a first name basis it seemed.
  69. (Shatterhorn)
  70. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  71.
  72. [16:09] For now, Katrin allows herself to feel a little relief. She hasn't been gobbled up yet, or stewed slow, or spitted to roast over an open flame. So far, so good.
  73.
  74. "Well. Gimme a little time and some materials, I could maybe make you something good. Maybe even something -better- than what you had." She tries to reign in that confidence a bit as she rolls slowly back up to her feet.
  75.
  76. "You can call me Kay. I plan to be one of the best in the business some day. The business of y'know...artificing and stuff. That business."
  77.
  78. And really, how many people could put that particular feather in their cap? Making horns for an ogre. Now that's a nifty plume.
  79. (Katrin)
  80. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. [16:12] Shatterhorn nods as he listens to her words. Did he know what an artificer or a material was? No. BUT she seemed to be agreeing so he continued on.
  83.
  84. "Hmmm... you need shinies for it" He remembered that much at least. Looking into the pockets of his oversized trousers the ogre pulled out and dropped a few hunks of ore. "This help?" Shatter asked honestly, though it was most likely more than enough.
  85.
  86. Shatterhorn snuffled as he loomed over her, the prospect of having one of his horns restored making him rather happy. Could it be a trick? Probably, but he had wasn't capable of advanced reasoning.
  87. (Shatterhorn)
  88. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  89.
  90. [16:15] Katrin whistles softly as he presents the Orchilacum.
  91.
  92. "Yeah...yeah, I bet that'd help. I mean. I can't make that sort of stuff myself, not yet. BUT!" she holds up a finger, before he gets any bright ideas to chomp on her there and then.
  93.
  94. "I bet with this? I could find you someone who can- to tide you over until I'm good enough, y'know?"
  95.
  96. She's out to live, but deception? Not exactly her style at this juncture.
  97.
  98. "How's that sound?"
  99. (Katrin)
  100. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  101.
  102. [16:18] Furrowing his brow the ogre snuffles out before pointing at her. "You take shinies, and you make me horn." Shatter pauses as he snorts, "Me can wait, me want skinny dragon to make horn." She had been selected, his mind was set.
  103.
  104. Shatterhorn tapped his foot idly and caused a bit of an earthquake before snorting once more, "You owe me one horn dragon Kay...Promise?" The ogre leaned down close to her. His jagged sharpened teeth and beady red eyes inches from her face. That is until he pulled away and brought up a meaty hand. More specifically a meaty pinky, the size of her forearm. Was he asking for a pinky promise?
  105. (Shatterhorn)
  106. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  107.
  108. [16:22] There's a stunned blink from the gangly Drakan. On the one hand, the prospect is terrifying- now that she's been quite pointedly selected, the pressure was on her. On the other? Hey, that's kind of flattering.
  109.
  110. She nods, quickly, and collects the rocks into her beat up coat.
  111.
  112. "You got it, mister Shatterhorn. I'm a dragon of my word."
  113.
  114. Wait. How's she going to manage this pinky swear? Katrin does some serious mental arithmetic. After some consideration she offers out her own pinky to rest in his.
  115.
  116. "I'll make you something real grand. Promise."
  117. (Katrin)
  118. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  119.
  120. [16:25] Shatterhorn nods happily as he snuffles. He's more reminiscent of an oversized baby rather than a demonic beast when he's happy. "Yes yes! Grand is good." Definitely knew what grand meant...
  121.
  122. Pulling back his pinky and returning to his full height the ogre snuffles and nods again. "Yes, new horn is good." The ogre begins to lumber to the East before stopping and adding, "Me let you go now, do not die dragon Kay." How would he get his horn? He'd probably run into her again, and if not? She was six orichalcum and a funny story richer.
  123. (Shatterhorn)
  124. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  125.
  126. [16:25] {Item} You drop Poppylus x1.
  127. [16:25] {Item} You picked up Orichalcum x6. Dropped by Shatterhorn.
  128. [16:27] She'd started out terrified. Now she comes away from the exchange with...
  129.
  130. A strange, heady sense of optimism and excitement. Is that supposed to happen? She doesn't think about it too much. Already in her head she's planning out rough designs. This isn't something she plans to pass up.
  131.
  132. "Yeah, you got it. Take care of yourself too, mister Shatterhorn."
  133.
  134. The ogre gets himself a salute from the stringy Drakan, then she starts off with the rocks in tow to practice and plot this grand construction. Horns ain't built overnight, y'know.
  135. (Katrin)
