Nevada Redux: S01 E01 - Arrival & Sendoff

[7/16/2013 8:16:43 PM] DBN006: The Sun hangs high in the sky over the Nevada desert, once a barren stretch of land home to dry lake beds and secret testing facilities. City 51 waits in the distance, steel and glass gleaming. Well outside the city is an air port used for receiving OPUS VIPs and personnel from the IPEA. A single black car waits, engine running to keep the inside cool. Septimius, favored child of the Commander, waits inside under her orders. He's to trval with the Vice Commander and the Fourth Child back into the city. The driver, wearing an OPUS uniform and, to his displeasure a chauffeur cap, drums his fingers against the steering wheel.
[7/16/2013 8:19:02 PM] MR RAGE: Reaching up, he adjusts his hair, black strands pulled and combed to perfection to make a good impression on the new arrival. A pressed uniform, bearing the OPUS logo, makes him look a little older in an attempt to fight his youthful face. Have to present a strong, authoritative image as the senior pilot, after all.
[7/16/2013 8:21:42 PM] DBN006: The pilot leaned forward over the wheel to look up with a squint, trying to spot the plane. "Ah...there."
[7/16/2013 8:24:14 PM] DBN006: "If you look out the plane to your left, you can see the city now." Karinka leaned over Elizabeth's seat to point, smelling strongly of cigars and tiny bottles of booze. Seems she wasn't fond of plane rides, needing some alcohol to take the edge off.
[7/16/2013 8:25:33 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin frowns a little and looks out the window. "Then we can get started soon? You said you'd help."
[7/16/2013 8:27:14 PM] DBN006: "A promise is a promise." The woman nodded, sitting back down in her seat. With a slight tilt the plane started its descent. "Might want to buckle in."
[7/16/2013 8:27:45 PM] Kaitlin: "Good." She hesitates a moment, still looking out the window, before buckling her seat belt.
[7/16/2013 8:31:42 PM] DBN006: The car's driver gets out to watch the plane land, hands clasped behind his back as he stood at attention. It isn't long before Septimius can hear the squeal of tires and the whine of twin engines as the plane lands and slows to a halt.
[7/16/2013 8:33:33 PM] MR RAGE: A quiet smile, and he gets out to watch as well. The olive-skinned boy adjusted his uniform one last time, waiting at attention. Let's see... Fifteen minutes to get from plane to the gate, and a short walk out onto the road...
[7/16/2013 8:35:03 PM] DBN006: Karinka is out the door first, pointing at Septimius as she talks to someone still inside. "Take your bags to that car there, he'll help you load them into the trunk."
[7/16/2013 8:37:14 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin looks at the boy for a moment before grabbing her bags and walking over. "Um..hi."
[7/16/2013 8:38:48 PM] MR RAGE: He's a charming looking fellow, offering a warm smile and a wave. "Hello, Miss! You're the new pilot? --oh, allow me." Taking the girl's bags, he loads them in once the chauffer pops the trunk.
[7/16/2013 8:39:40 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin blinks as the bags are taken from her. "Well, yes-I think? I don't really understand everything...I just know it'll help me."
[7/16/2013 8:41:27 PM] DBN006: "Septimius, think you could fill her in for me?" Karinka comes up behind Elizabeth, resting a hand on her shoulder. "I though that hearing all of this from another pilot might be easier. It was hard enough talking her into my car."
[7/16/2013 8:42:27 PM] MR RAGE: "Ah...of course." Gesturing towards the car, he slips into his previous spot, waiting for Elizabeth to get in before offering his hand. "My name's Septimius Gavril, if they haven't told you. Friends call me Sep."
[7/16/2013 8:43:28 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin sits down in the empty seat and shakes his hand. "Sep, huh? My name is Elizabeth."
[7/16/2013 8:43:46 PM] DBN006: The Chauffer and Karinka are in next, the soldier already complaining to Karinka about the way the Commander has treated him since she left for London.
[7/16/2013 8:44:57 PM] MR RAGE: "Elizabeth. That's a lovely name." His smile fades a bit, and he taps his chin, pondering where to start. "Well... I guess, in essence, you're here to help OPUS protect the Earth from monsters."
[7/16/2013 8:45:59 PM] Kaitlin: "OPUS?"
[7/16/2013 8:47:01 PM] DBN006: "Organization for the Protection of the United States." Karinka chimes in. "With such a patriotic name no one complained about the tax hikes to fund it."
[7/16/2013 8:49:13 PM] Kaitlin: "I...see." She frowns for a moment. "So how exactly do we do that? You mentioned something about it in the bookstore, but.."
[7/16/2013 8:50:30 PM] MR RAGE: "Well... Our primary weapon is the Evangelions. You can think of them as giant suits of armor, that we pilot into battle."
[7/16/2013 8:51:46 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin lightens up, looking between Septimus and Karinka. "Giant suits of armor? Really?"
[7/16/2013 8:52:51 PM] DBN006: "Something like that, da."
[7/16/2013 8:53:32 PM] MR RAGE: "Mhn. It's...difficult to explain without experiencing, but that's the idea. The monsters we fight are impervious to other weapons, so we have to use the Evangelions."
[7/16/2013 8:54:03 PM] Kaitlin: "Will I get to see one soon?"
[7/16/2013 8:54:57 PM] DBN006: "There are a few other things we have to do first but...I think we could manage that."
[7/16/2013 8:56:00 PM] Kaitlin: "Like what? Can't I just get a glimpse?"
[7/16/2013 8:57:13 PM] DBN006: In the distance City 51 is growing larger. Even amidst the skyscrapers and some of the other tall buildings, it's hard to miss the black pyramid sitting at the very heart of the city. "We have to get you an identification badge, see which apartment you've been assigned..."
[7/16/2013 8:59:28 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin sighs. "Alright, alright..." She instead directs her attention towards the window.
[7/16/2013 8:59:59 PM] MR RAGE: "Hnhn. Don't worry, there's a lot to do on the base. It isn't as boring as it sounds, I promise."
[7/16/2013 9:02:17 PM] Kaitlin: "I don't think it sounds boring, just...I just want to see."
[7/16/2013 9:02:56 PM] MR RAGE: Sep beams, settling in for the car ride.
[7/16/2013 9:04:29 PM] DBN006: "As a minor under our care there are certain rules you'll need to follow. I won't bore you with them now, there will be a packet waiting in your room. Just be sure you do follow them."
[7/16/2013 9:05:22 PM] Kaitlin: "...A packet?"
[7/16/2013 9:05:25 PM] Kaitlin: "Just how many rules are there?"
[7/16/2013 9:06:20 PM] DBN006: City 51 looks like most cities do after the event known as Skyfall. Supposedly not a lot has changed over the years but some television personalities and anti-government groups would disagree. "Rules, maps, proceedures, schedules."
[7/16/2013 9:07:50 PM] DBN006: "Everyone you see here in City 51 is in some way related to OPUS. Some are off-duty soldiers, pilots or the families of personnel. Everything in this city was made to support us."
[7/16/2013 9:09:21 PM] Kaitlin: "Everything...?" She pays more attention to the passing surroundings now, doing her best to see as much of the city as possible.
[7/16/2013 9:12:57 PM] DBN006: Every now and then she might catch a glimpse of a tank rolling lazily down a street, or a sign for an emergency shelter. There's no sense of panic or fear, more like the city is waiting for a war than conducting one.
[7/16/2013 9:13:54 PM] MR RAGE: Sep's gaze isn't quite so intent, his eyes used to the city's terrain, even if he wasn't familiar with all the nooks and crannies. "Oh, Elizabeth, you mentioned that OPUS would help you, somehow?"
[7/16/2013 9:14:23 PM] DBN006: Karinka looks up, watching the two in the rear-view mirror now.
[7/16/2013 9:14:26 PM] Kaitlin: "Well, that's what she said..."
[7/16/2013 9:14:44 PM] MR RAGE: "May I ask how so?"
[7/16/2013 9:18:44 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin keeps her attention focused on the city outside. "She said coming here would give me the means to find my brother, sort of.." She talks rather quietly.
[7/16/2013 9:19:30 PM] MR RAGE: "Ohh." A comprehending nod, and he leans over to squeeze Elizabeth's shoulder. "I'm sure OPUS will do everything it can." A softer smile.
[7/16/2013 9:21:17 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin bites her lip and says nothing.
[7/16/2013 9:21:24 PM] DBN006: There's a faint boom in the distance that manages to rattle the car's windows. People on the street have stopped moving, looking up and around for some visable source of the noise.
[7/16/2013 9:22:00 PM] DBN006: "The hell?" Karinka unbuckles her seatbelt and leans out the window.
[7/16/2013 9:22:59 PM] MR RAGE: "!" Sep's grip on the girl's shoulder tightens for a startled moment. "An attack?"
[7/16/2013 9:24:29 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin tenses, then looks around. "W-what?"
[7/16/2013 9:24:43 PM | Edited 9:27:28 PM] DBN006: "Ma'am, we're getting a call from--" He's cut off by the city warning system, sirens going off all across City 51.
[7/16/2013 9:26:00 PM] DBN006: [This is the Emergency Broadcast System. All citizens are urged to relocate themselves to the nearest emergency shelter in a calm and orderly fashion. I repeat...]
[7/16/2013 9:26:13 PM] DBN006: "Drive!" Karinka shouts as she slips back inside.
[7/16/2013 9:29:07 PM] MR RAGE: Gavril grimaces, and he lets go of Elizabeth's shoulder. "It looks like you'll get to see an Eva earlier than we thought."
[7/16/2013 9:31:24 PM] Kaitlin: "I-Is that bad? I mean, it sounds bad, but I don't..see..anything. Where is it-whatever it is?"
[7/16/2013 9:31:31 PM] Kaitlin: "The thing causing all the commotion."
[7/16/2013 9:31:32 PM] DBN006: Karinka takes the phone from their driver, having a quick and harsh conversation with Central Dogma. "Glitches in the early detection system my ass. How could you miss that thing with a telescope? NASA nerds..."
[7/16/2013 9:33:14 PM] DBN006: "It's still high up in the atmosphere. You'll be able to see it from the monitors in Central Dogma, the command post."
[7/16/2013 9:34:54 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius swallows hard, nodding mostly to himself. "Here it comes..."
[7/16/2013 9:36:18 PM] DBN006: Klaxxon still wail as the car speeds toward the black pyramid OPUS called home, honking at anyone stupid enough to even think about stepping into the street.
[7/16/2013 9:36:44 PM] DBN006: "Invader has been confirmed, blood type blue. Designation is...Cancer."
[7/16/2013 9:39:17 PM] DBN006: "Cancer...like the crab?" Karinka ponders.
[7/16/2013 9:39:42 PM] MR RAGE: "Something like that."
[7/16/2013 9:40:49 PM] Kaitlin: "What?"
[7/16/2013 9:42:24 PM] DBN006: "Invaders are identified though a complex analysis, usually looking for certain genetic markers in their DNA. It's why they confirm them as blood type blue."
[7/16/2013 9:43:11 PM] DBN006: A little speed bump and the car is heading down a ramp and into the facility, only dim strips of light on the walls illuminating the inside of the car now.
[7/16/2013 9:44:23 PM] MR RAGE: Somehow, even in the undulating shadows, Sep manages to not look sinister.
[7/16/2013 9:46:12 PM] DBN006: "Elizabeth, once the car stops I want you to follow Septimius. You need to take her to see Doctor Anoa'i for her plug suit."
[7/16/2013 9:46:50 PM] Kaitlin: "Plug suit? Can't I keep my clothes?"
[7/16/2013 9:47:18 PM] MR RAGE: "No, it's needed for the Evangelions. Don't worry, they're kind of fun."
[7/16/2013 9:48:03 PM] DBN006: "Especially the one Doctor Solo was mo--" A slug to the driver's arm and some harsh words in Russian.
[7/16/2013 9:48:58 PM] MR RAGE: "They are...a little tight though. Like a piloting suit."
[7/16/2013 9:50:50 PM] Kaitlin: "Well, being a pilot sounds fun, at least.."
[7/16/2013 9:51:07 PM] DBN006: The car comes to a stop, finally, Karinka and the driver already climbing out. "Don't just stand around, this is a real attack! Move it!"
[7/16/2013 9:51:37 PM] MR RAGE: "Y-yes'm!" Sep's out of the car soon after, opening Elizabeth's door and offering his hand. "We have to hurry!"
[7/16/2013 9:52:15 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin takes his hand. "A-alright, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing."
[7/16/2013 9:52:49 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius does, though, leading Elizabeth with great haste! First to the Doctor's, to get her plugsuit.
[7/16/2013 9:55:28 PM] DBN006: Luckily it isn't far to her office. They take an elevator up a few floors, crowded with OPUS personnel, and are let out onto the medical floor. Doctor Anoa'i, Solo to some, is actually waiting for them. "Ah, I thought I would see you soon little cuzes." She's a tall woman, as much an amazon as a Samoan, busty and muscular. Looks like she could hold her own in a fight with Karinka, if the Doctor's Hawaiian shirt didn't blind her first.

[7/16/2013 9:56:15 PM] MR RAGE: "We need Elizabeth's plugsuit, Doc." Sep explains as soon as she's in sight, having to stare up a little to see over her bust.
[7/16/2013 9:57:12 PM] DBN006: "I have it here." She holds up one plug suit, wrapped in plastic and ready to go. "Tell me cuz, are you nervous about piloting for the first time?"
[7/16/2013 9:57:37 PM] Kaitlin: "Mostly just..confused, at the moment." She looks at the plug suit curiously.
[7/16/2013 9:59:04 PM] DBN006: "Don't sweat it. Ancient Hawaiian's say...sometimes a bird sings. Sometimes, it coughs up a worm." She smiles and hands over the plugsuit before standing up straight. "I hope you sing beautifully."
[7/16/2013 10:00:05 PM] MR RAGE: "I'll try to explain on the way." Taking her hand again, Sep's on the run again. "Thanks, Anoa'i!"
[7/16/2013 10:00:25 PM] Kaitlin: "I...hope so too?" She takes the plug suit, trying to unwrap it when Sep drags her away. "Ah-hey, wait! Where now?"
[7/16/2013 10:01:34 PM] MR RAGE: "The hangar! There's a lockerroom where you can change!"
[7/16/2013 10:02:34 PM] Kaitlin: "O-oh, right." She frowns a little as she tries to keep up with his pace. "What if it doesn't fit?"
[7/16/2013 10:03:44 PM] MR RAGE: "They go on loose and tighten up with pressure. I could show you if you want me to?" He glances back, those green eyes completely earnest and honest.
[7/16/2013 10:04:54 PM] Kaitlin: "N-no! No, no, it-I can figure it out myself."
[7/16/2013 10:06:17 PM] MR RAGE: "Alright. It's your fault if you take too long, though~" He teases, taking a turn into an elevator.
[7/16/2013 10:07:51 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin flushes and follows him into the elevator, staring at the suit in her hands, then at the floor. "W-why do I need this to step into a giant suit of armor?"
[7/16/2013 10:10:47 PM] MR RAGE: "It's how it works. See..." He straightens up, catching his breath. "The Evangelion, we synch up to it. The Eva becomes our body, and we pilot it by thinking it. But this means we need as many nerves 'visible' as possible. Plus," he gestures to the harder, plastic-y bits of the plugsuit, "it helps keep us safe."

[7/16/2013 10:15:03 PM] MR RAGE: "Mn...it's a bit like learning to walk again. It's designed to be really straightforward." Sep watches the floor-counter.
[7/16/2013 10:17:07 PM] Kaitlin: "Well, that can't be so bad then." She sounds a bit relieved.
[7/16/2013 10:18:58 PM] MR RAGE: "It can't be worse than what happened to me," Sep offers with a smile, grabbing her wrist as the door opens. And away!
[7/16/2013 10:19:38 PM] DBN006: "Septimius!" A familiar voice calls from another hallway. She must be close. "Fourth chiiild!"
[7/16/2013 10:21:00 PM] Kaitlin: "Wait, what happened?" She pauses. "Fourth..is that me?"
[7/16/2013 10:22:21 PM] MR RAGE: "Natasha!" Sep stops, leaning to find the source.
[7/16/2013 10:23:45 PM] DBN006: She emerges up ahead, a teenage girl in what looks like some astronaut's jumpsuit that even had some badges sewn on. The top half was pulled down to tie around her waist, revealing her sports bra. She looked just a tab pudgy and damn comfortable to hug.
[7/16/2013 10:25:51 PM] MR RAGE: "Her name's Elizabeth. Elizabeth, this is Natasha. She's one of my best friends on base."
[7/16/2013 10:26:49 PM] Kaitlin: "Hi." Elizabeth takes a moment to absorb the new information, before offering a small smile. "Is it always this busy?"
[7/16/2013 10:28:06 PM] DBN006: "This is the first real attack so...no, not really." She smiles at Elizabeth, looking ready to burst. "Sorry about this." The bigger girl grabs up Elizabeth and pulls her into a big ol' hug.
[7/16/2013 10:29:09 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin tenses, but doesn't really struggle to get out of the hug, not entirely sure what to make of it.
[7/16/2013 10:29:37 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius, of course, laughs like a loon, joining the hug after a moment, squeezing tight.
[7/16/2013 10:31:04 PM] DBN006: Natasha laughs and puts Elizabeth down. "My brother was fond of hugging people and I find that I am too."
[7/16/2013 10:32:21 PM] Kaitlin: "Oh...I see." She looks away for a moment before looking back up.
[7/16/2013 10:33:46 PM] DBN006: She looks ready to hug her again, but controls herself. "You're on the way to the locker rooms, da?" Another Russian, with bouncy...honey-blonde hair.
[7/16/2013 10:34:46 PM] Kaitlin: "I guess so." She holds the plugsuit up a bit. "Supposed to put this thing on."
[7/16/2013 10:35:45 PM] DBN006: "Oh! I have to wear something like that in space. Come, I'll help you. I'm guessing Sep made a similar offer?" And Elizabeth is being led again.
[7/16/2013 10:36:00 PM] MR RAGE: Sep shrugs helplessly. How could he refuse?
[7/16/2013 10:36:14 PM] MR RAGE: "I'll see you in the hangar!" And Sep takes off on his own path.
[7/16/2013 10:36:35 PM] Kaitlin: "Does he always do that?"
[7/16/2013 10:37:29 PM] DBN006: Natasha shrugs. "You're the first pilot here aside from him."
[7/16/2013 10:37:55 PM] Kaitlin: "Oh. You don't pilot?"
[7/16/2013 10:39:23 PM] DBN006: "Nyet. I'm a kosmonaut. I run missions for OPUS through the Lunar Debris Field."
[7/16/2013 10:40:13 PM] Kaitlin: "I've never even heard of such a position."
[7/16/2013 10:40:38 PM] DBN006: "Kos-- Astronaut."
[7/16/2013 10:40:48 PM] DBN006: "You know astronauts, da?"
[7/16/2013 10:41:54 PM] Kaitlin: "Y-yeah, of course. Is that what you are then?"
[7/16/2013 10:42:33 PM] DBN006: She nods, grinning as she leads her right into the girl's locker room. "Time to strip, Lizzie."
[7/16/2013 10:43:46 PM] Kaitlin: "W-what? I can change myself!"
[7/16/2013 10:44:31 PM] DBN006: "You sure? Okay. Make sure its all the way on before pushing the button on the wrist. Otherwise it might..." She whispers something into Elizabeth's ear.
[7/16/2013 10:47:32 PM] Kaitlin: "O-okay, I will, I will." She picks a changing room and puts the suit on. Once it's all the way up, she pushes the button and panics a little as it tightens itself to fit her. She steps out of the room a little, looking for Natasha. "...Is it supposed to be this snug?"
[7/16/2013 10:48:30 PM] DBN006: "Do you feel self-conscious?"
[7/16/2013 10:49:12 PM] Kaitlin: "I don't own anything this...tight." The suit only serves to accentuate how flat she is, anyways.
[7/16/2013 10:50:23 PM] DBN006: "Yeah, it's supposed to be like that. Take a few deep breaths and head through the door marked 'CAGE' okay?"
[7/16/2013 10:51:11 PM] Kaitlin: "Door marked cage..right." She heads out the door as she comprehends the order. "Wait, cage? As in where someone is locked up?"
[7/16/2013 10:51:40 PM] DBN006: "Just go, it's fine. Promise."
[7/16/2013 10:52:17 PM] Kaitlin: "Fine, fine." She heads out and looks for the door she's supposed to head through.
[7/16/2013 10:53:48 PM] DBN006: It's easy enough to open, leading into the largest area the base had to offer. Swarms of workers were all over the place in matching jumpsuits and hats, most of their attention focused on the two humanoid robots, one on either side of Elizabeth.
[7/16/2013 10:54:04 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius awaits! He's wearing his own plugsuit, slightly different in design, a dull green color to go with his eyes--or the giant robot behind him with the same color, whichever.
[7/16/2013 10:55:03 PM] DBN006: On the far side is a large observation window, Karinka standing in her uniform with another woman, both of them watching the action in the cage.
[7/16/2013 10:55:32 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin stops for a moment, staring in awe at the robots. "We get to go in these?" Her awkwardness in the tight purple plugsuit forgotten.
[7/16/2013 10:57:00 PM] MR RAGE: "Mhn! That one's yours." Sep points to the other robot.
[7/16/2013 10:58:58 PM] DBN006: Theres a metallic squak as the speakers spread throughout the Cage turn on. "This is Vice Commander Ankudinova. I will be acting operations director since the IPEA dog seems to have gone missing. Septimius, prepare for launch. Elizabeth, since you haven't had your activation test yet you'll be on st--"
[7/16/2013 10:59:13 PM] DBN006: "No. Send her out as well." the second woman spoke up.
[7/16/2013 11:00:03 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin looks to Sep. "Test?"
[7/16/2013 11:00:56 PM] DBN006: The sound was off but anyone could easily see the heated debate going on now, at least on Karinka's part. The other woman looked calm and controlled.
[7/16/2013 11:01:12 PM] MR RAGE: "It's when you learn how to pilot, basically. Glad you got your suit on the right way, by the way."
[7/16/2013 11:02:25 PM] DBN006: The speakers come back on, Karinka clearing her throat. "Prepare both Evangelions for launch."
[7/16/2013 11:02:36 PM] Kaitlin: Kaitlin frowns. "It's not rocket science to put a suit on."
[7/16/2013 11:04:33 PM] MR RAGE: "N-no, I didn't mean it--" The boy holds his hands up to surrender, glancing up as the speaker goes on. "I'll apologize later, okay?" And Sep heads for his Eva's plug. "Do what I do."
[7/16/2013 11:05:07 PM] Kaitlin: She doesn't lessen her glare by too much, but she mimics his movements.

[7/19/2013 6:53:37 PM] DM_DBN: Bertha hooks an arm around Sabrina's shoulders as she leads her away from the hanger. "Ve vill naut be trainingk today, mein liebchen.Am havingk serious news vor you." Bertha wasn't serious very often, playing most things off as some joke specifically for her amusement.

[7/19/2013 6:59:43 PM] DM_DBN: "Deployment. Your father regrets he ees naut here to give ze orders himself, he ees stuck defendingk ze creation uf your Evangelion before ze IPEA."
[7/19/2013 7:02:10 PM] Durk: She scowls at that, it didn't need defending, it would be doing the defending. Wait. Deployment? "Yes!" She jumps in the air in excitement.
[7/19/2013 7:04:33 PM] DM_DBN: "You vill be joiningk OPUS, ze group zhat helped us build ze Eva. Zhey fear eet ees only a matter uf time before ze Invaders strike unt zhey vant all ze ducks een a row."
[7/19/2013 7:05:38 PM] Durk: "For how long?" She asked. She might not show it all the time, but she liked this bunch and would possibly even miss them.
[7/19/2013 7:07:13 PM] DM_DBN: "Until zhey are done vith you. Eez var, liebchen." The large German woman gave her a firm pat on the back. "Questions?"
