  1. Hello, You have been banned from participating in /r/programming for 3 days because your comment violates this community's rules. You won't be able to post or comment, but you can still view and subscribe to it.
  2.
  3. Note from the moderators:
  4.
  5. You've engaged in repeated incivility for a long, long time, and you have been repeatedly warned through comment removals about your behavior. Most users would not be afforded the leniency you've been shown.
  6.
  7. If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team by replying to this message.
  8.
  9. Reminder from the Reddit Admin team: If you use another account to circumvent this community ban, that will be considered a violation of the Reddit Rules and may result in your account being banned from the platform as a whole.

  14. Those were harassment and far worse comments have been allowed up towards me. What was uncivil about either of those comments?
  15. The first comment was *especially* not uncivil and the second was intentionally crafted not to break the uncivil rule.
  16. It's crystal clear to me that one or more of the mods here are part of the Linux community and don't like me saying anything negative about it and are now using their mod tools to engage in harrasment.
  17. Guess I'll file more mod CoC complaints. Won't do anything because Reddit's awful admins won't do their job.

  22. Insinuating that entire groups of programmers are furries engaging in "roleplay" isn't civil.
  23.
  24. If you're trying to intentionally craft comments to get around the incivility rule that's probably a sign that you're not being civil and you don't have good intent.

  28. It's an extremely common joke perpetuated by people from all across the internet. YouTubers make it. Twitter makes it. Reddit, included people on this subreddit before you were given mod powers, did it. At no point was any comment previously removed. You are harassing and banning me for something that at no point prior was against the rules.
  29. It's literally the same as Arch Linux users wearing thigh highs and literally no one finds it "uncivil".

  33. I don't believe for a second that this isn't targeted harassment but lets pretend it isn't. How exactly am I supposed to know what is and isn't "uncivil" when conveniently only this subreddit's new mods finds it so. Most of my comments that were removed weren't even "uncivil".
  34. How exactly is "Now imagine the performance improvement you'd have if you used a real programming language." uncivil? Even other users of the subreddit found it nonesene.
  35. How exactly is "9/11 for gooners" uncivil when the people impacted by the DMCA takedown call themselves "gooners" and it was taken down for illegal hentai? What logic is any of this?

  40. That a joke is common doesn't make it civil. It stereotypes a group in an inappropriate manner that many people interpret as sexual, it's irrelevant to the topic at hand, and it appears to demean. Thus, it's uncivil. It's always been uncivil. It will always be uncivil. We apologise if in previous times the sub has not been moderated as thoroughly as it is now.
  41.
  42. Furthermore, you're not being harassed. You just have a habit of being uncivil on the sub. The admins, from what I've seen, are extremely prompt in addressing actual site problems; that your complaints have not resulted in anything might be a good sign that you're just not being harassed by us.
  43.
  44. This is a habit you should curtail, otherwise you'll probably get banned again.

  49. Arguing with the illogical is clearly pointless. This entire chat is something you'd see someone post on Twitter making fun of Reddit for. You've repeatedly allowed comments towards me to stay up despite actually being uncivil(https://imgur.com/a/6LC0pJH, https://imgur.com/a/YQLCXvI, among others). You've been called out by multiple times(by comments and upvotes) for poorly enforcing rules:

  64. We went from "we're thoroughly moderating to the subreddit now" to "you didn't report a comment that was literally next to the one we just removed, your fault" in a hurry. Which is it? I can't even do that because they're blocked and Reddit doesn't allow you to report blocked users even for subreddit rules. That isn't an issue though because Reddit's admin's are *so* good at fixing site issues, right? Whatever this is a circus. My point that this is targeted harassment, this was never an issue before, and you're interpreting things to be "uncivil" that were not intended to be and that is not considered to be by anyone else but conveniently you. You've been called out for poorly enforcing but Reddit's admins clearly care about free work than stopping harassment. Hope this website goes bankrupt.

  71. The hope was that you would take a very short ban as a sign that you need to change your long-term behavior, but given that clearly isn't something you're interested in doing, I'm going to increase the ban length to something more appropriate.

  91. The word "bitching" is based off "bitch" which is a derogatory description. If I had said it, I would have been banned.

  105. Multiple attempts have been made to do that publicly and privately here. Multiple other people have found the moderation to be extremely biased and unfair, to the point that some have offered to contact you privately on my behalf.
  106. I can probably link to atleast half a dozen instances of comments that, if I were to say them, it would be removed and i'd be banned. The one linked above is not by any means an isolated incodent.

  110. How exactly are users supposed to know what's considered "uncivil" when the moderation team doesn't agree and has "biases"? When the attitude is anything, even the most minor of possible uncivility, is considered a violation of the rules for one user and is perfectly OK for everyone else?
  111. The moderation removal text says *overly* uncivil, yet again and again, I've had comments removed that could not possibly hit that threshold while other people's comments remain up, including flat out insults towards me as I've tried publicly bringing up.

There is zero willingness to discuss moderation with anyone in those comments despite multiple people agreeing it's wrong.

  120. As we've made clear to you repeatedly, the issue of specific moderation actions, including your comments being removed, is best discussed in mod mails, such as here.
  121.
  122. This is not for our benefit, but for yours. It would be deeply inappropriate for us to publicly list the ways and whens of you being repeatedly uncivil; there's a point where that stops being moderation, and starts being public shaming, and that point is when we need to discuss, in public, all the ways in which you've been uncivil and why those comments were uncivil.
  123.
  124. If one of us were to actually do that, that would actually start to become something closer to harassment than moderation.

  129. Asking users to jump into a pariah pit is never to mine or anyone else's benefit or advantage. Common sense says so, and the MULTIPLE other people who have seen your comment removals, selective enforcement, and self admitted inconsistent interpretation of what's considered "uncivil" and agree they were not appropriate reinforces that. They would not have known what you consider "uncivil" if it were not me making it public.

  133. I know I won't get an actual answer but, what else would you call such enforcement of the rules if not targeted harassment? Insults that are far worse than I had ever commented are up to my knowledge and that comment I first brought up is up despite being uncivil according to the ultra conservative definition of "uncivil" that I've been held to. It was crystal clear that I wanted this to be discussed openly because I knew this was targeted harassment and the moderation team would rightfully be criticized for it.
  134. People do not stick their necks out for others just for the giggles, especially on Reddit where mods are ban happy. The fact that multiple people not just through comments but also upvotes of those comments agree that those were wrong should be a clear cut indication that something with how the subreddit is moderated needs to change. There is clearly zero definition as to what's "uncivil" and not everyone is being held to the same standard.

  145.
  146. It's also pretty clear that you don't view your comments as uncivil, which means we have no way to honestly expect that you're going to reform your behaviour. That makes you being on the sub a liability, which is why I'm making your ban permanent.
  147.
  148. I normally wouldn't even bother explaining this in such detail, but because you've accused us of harassing you repeatedly, I want it to be crystal clear why this was done.
