  43. ㅡ PERSONALITY :
  44. | YOU HURT ME ( reserved )
  45. Sekyung is usually very reserved and prefers to keep to herself, from years of being bullied by her peers for being who she was. She rarely opens up to others first, not one to make meaningless conversation with other people. She absolutely despises being pitied by other people, so she doesn't share many of her sob stories with others, and can come off as cold and indifferent a lot of the time. On the inside, however, she's just a child that never outgrew the obstacles of social awkwardness that were made to test her. Sekyung is reserved not only because of fear, but also because she simply has no idea what to say, because she has had almost no experience.
  46. | I CRIED BLOOD ( morally upright )
  47. She's never one to do anything that goes against her morals, even if that means she has to risk her life for what she believes in. You can call it stubbornness or hard-headedness, but Sekyung has always been one to be clear on what she does and does not support. This poses a problem when she's literally working to dig through government plans and files about the virus that mysteriously took away her father and her best friend. All in all, Sekyung is very resilient in her beliefs and perseveres through whatever life throws at her if it means she can stay true to herself. She will never let herself give up on what she believes; she needs to be strong for those who need her.
  48. | I STOOD UP ( vindictive )
  49. Maybe it was the result of being pushed around her whole entire life, or maybe it was the true nature of her character that Sekyung desperately wanted to hide from, but she's always had a strong desire for revenge. Especially now that nearly everything good she had has been stripped away from her, the darkness clouds over her, and all she can think of is how to plan her revenge against the society that had never given her the easy way around. Sekyung just wants her father taken out of quarantine, and Eunsuk back from wherever he was taken, and she is willing to do whatever the hell it all costs from her. Even if that's her life.
  50. | AND FORGOT HOW TO FORGIVE ( insecure )
  51. Sekyung is incredibly insecure, always seeking praise and reassurance from those around her because she's always had a lack of self-confidence. Being looked down on all those years is enough to make anyone doubt themselves, and she isn't an exception. Sekyung feels dysfunctional, like the bringer of bad luck, and can't help but ask herself if everything would be better without her being alive. Never comfortable in her own skin, she still needs reassurance and love, though she tries very hard not to show it in front of anyone else. Self-doubt accompanies Sekyoung's every move, and if that can't be described as tiring and draining, then she isn't sure what can.
  52.
  53. ㅡ BACKGROUND :
  54. | CAN YOU HEAR IT? ( childhood )
  55. Sekyung doesn't remember much from when she was very young, but what she does remember is sobbing in her sister's embrace and fearing for her life at the age of four while her mother rampaged around the house, drunk and a broken soju bottle in her hands. Her sister would shush her, just as panicked, trying to convince her that everything would be alright. Sekyung, whimpering, would ask if their father would be okay, and Serom wouldn't be able to answer confidently, only causing her younger sister's cries to get louder. Such were the days of fear Sekyung and Serom spent. It was probably nearly every three weeks that Seoyeon came home, having run out of money after spending it all on drinking. But the in-betweens, those beautiful three weeks free of broken glass and screaming, meant the world to their adjusted family of three. Kookyoung was busy most days, having to work many shifts at his lab to provide for his two little girls and his wife's alcoholic tendencies, but he made sure to make time for his children. He kept a smile on his tired face for them, worked on because of them. This was probably when Sekyung realized just how much she wanted to be like her father. She wanted to become a scientist, a researcher like him. She really thought the work he did was admirable; helping other people just because he had the ability to, instead of becoming some prestigious doctor and charging patients hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  56. When she turned six, Sekyung entered school early into Serom's grade, three years above her, mostly because she was't allowed to stay at home alone. However, Sekyung was also exceptionally smart, picking up everything a bit faster than the average pace of her peers. She read voraciously in her (painfully long) spare time and practically begged her father to do wild chemistry experiments in their small apartment when he wasn't always working or tired. Gradually, as she started to have a clearer view on the world around her, the sparkling illusion over her life receded, being replaced with the reality. Her mother became scarier, more threatening, now that she could understand all the insults fully. She started noticing the small things, like how their little home didn't have all that much furniture, how her father had scratches on his person every time their mother came back and left again, or how the soju bottles started piling next to the door. Sekyung got scared more often than she used to, anxious that her mother could come back whenever she desired, and had the power to hurt her real family. Come to think of it, Sekyung had never once had a proper conversation with her mother, and didn't bother trying to understand her. Seoyeon became a living nightmare, and Sekyung lived her days in fear.
  57. | THE SOUND OF MY HEART BREAKING? ( adolescence )
  58. When Sekyung turned eight, things took a turn for the worse; kids at school had started bullying her, saying that she was too young, too small, too innocent to understand them and their apparently more complex thinking structures. Being three years ahead and always at the top of her class won her a lot more enemies than allies, especially in the pressure-filled society that Korea was. Serom got increasingly busy with her own studies and her father had to take up even more hours at the lab to cover for her mother's now more... various spending outlets. There was no way around it; Sekyung had to go through it alone. She didn't want to risk bothering her sister and father, and she wanted to prove that she could take care of herself just fine. After all, she couldn't always depend on them. Sekyung avoided the bullies the best she could and spent most of her days holed up in the library, shelves upon shelves of ancient and recent knowledge keeping her company instead of people. Yet inside the rather large library, she met a boy named Eunsuk, two years older than her but in the grade below hers. While she cowered away from him and avoided him at all costs at first, he never made fun of her and always offered her a warm smile whenever he saw her. This continued until one day, he said, "Jin Sekyung, right? I'm Tak Eunsuk." She'd flinched at his greeting, and turned around to see his smile. "Wanna study with me? You're the only other student I ever see in here." And that's how their friendship began.
  59. As the years passed, Sekyung started staying home less often, preferring to sit and chat with Eunsuk in the library and dragging him into the school's labs to do obscure experiments she'd seen online. They laughed a lot together, and Sekyung could start to forget the tragedies her life was surrounded by in his vicinity. There was just something about him, she supposed, that helped her relax. She could forget her anxiousness about green glass shards scattering over the dented hardwood floor, forget about dabbing her father's scratches with rubbing alcohol, about the taunting from her peers. And foolishly, she thought that it could continue. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and it started with her mother. Like always. Being 12, Sekyung hadn't thought much of it when her mother first stumbled into the living room on the third Saturday from her last "visit", hurriedly making her way to her and Serom's room. But something was different, and she could feel it, the chills running down her spine. The atmosphere changed starting from when Seoyoung started screaming. Sekyung turned around on instinct, legs trembling when she saw that Seoyoung was holding a nearly empty soju bottle. She screamed and screamed, resentment and anguish on the tip of her tongue as she glared at Kookyoung with a glint of insanity. Sekyung didn't think; she just saw her mother raising the bottle in the, mind made up in her eyes. She dashed across the room and pushed her father out of the way, choking out a gasp as the bottle hit her in the back of her head.
  60. When Sekyung woke up, a week had passed, her father was slumped across her lap, brows furrowed even in his sleep, and a weird sensation of bandages wrapped around her head met her senses. She spent the next couple hours thinking, questioning why her mother resented her father so much so as to attempt to harm him. But she felt safe, good away from school and home. Freeing, in a way. Serom and Eunsuk came to visit whenever they could. Eunsuk never learned the real reason why Sekyung ended up in the hospital, because they all agreed to tell him that she fell down the stairs. Sekyung still didn't want to become an emotional burden on him. Then her third night awake in the hospital, her father couldn't meet her eyes as he said that she would be sent to the States to live with her aunt and uncle for the next few years. Sekyung still remembers the way her father sobbed as he broke the news to her, apologizing for not being able to take care of her. She denied him, because she knew that Kookyoung had done absolutely nothing but care for her more than her mother did. Eunsuk knew he wouldn't be able to accompany her, and Sekyung didn't allow Serom to follow her; she didn't want her sister to deal with change because of her.
  61. | CAN YOU SEE IT? ( teenage years )
  62. The aunt and uncle Sekyung had never met before in person welcomed her into their home, yet to have a child of their home. The United States was a definite change from where Sekyung had lived her whole life, but she didn't complain. She felt like she was at a home, safe and happy with her aunt and uncle. She did dread school, afraid that it wouldn't be all that different from the environment in Korea. And to an extent, she was right. Except... that it was worse. She picked up the language quickly enough, and hardly had an accent, yet was scared to speak up because the kids at school spoke of her as if she didn't understand them. It was probably during this time that Sekyung developed anxiety and a continuous need to please others. Since she couldn't communicate effectively with her peers, she settled for pleasing the teachers, becoming quite the teacher's pet. But as this continued, the scorn of her classmates only increased, making fun of her for being such a "suck-up" or "people-pleaser". Sekyung didn't know what she could do to get the people around her to like her. She suffered inwardly, but kept her head above the water and continued with her studied, always at the top of her class and never failing to have the best grades. While Taeyoung and Jaehyun were worried, they didn't bring up any of her school experiences at home, since Sekyung seemed uncomfortable. The only place she could rely on was her increasingly less frequent contact with Serom and Eunsuk. She was slowly growing even more isolated. Sekyung graduated high school in the States at the age of 15 and left behind everything without a second glance, focusing on getting to college rather than lingering on her bad experiences in high school.
  63. After high school, Sekyung just hoped for a break, hating the way life was constantly pressing down on her. Eventually, she had nowhere to rely on, going to a university far away from her aunt and uncle's. She didn't bother trying to make friends anymore, tried her hardest to ignore the stares and whispers, and delved into her studies. All she wanted was her degree and to get out of there as fast as she could. She spent unhealthy amounts of time in the underground labs and rarely socialized her peers, spiraling into an overall unhealthy physical and mental state. The isolation and lack of outlet got to her, causing bouts of depression and anxiety, occasionally accompanied by a few panic attacks whenever she felt particularly threatened or pressured. The one thing she hoped to achieve was just within her grasp; becoming a scientist like her father, working in labs all day for the sake of knowledge and discovery. She wanted nothing more than to return to home, with Kookyoung and Serom waiting for her, to make them proud. It's something that kept her going, though it was probably more idealized than it should have been. Sekyung finished her undergraduate program in three years, graduating summa cum laude and with her aunt and uncle cheering her on from the stands. She thought she was one step closer to her dream when the university's lab recruited her, deciding to stay a few more years to start her career as a scientist in the States.
  64. | THE SIGHT OF ME CRUMBLING? ( adulthood )
  65. Working in the lab was busy for the most part and kept unnecessary thoughts out of her mind, so much so that Sekyung almost didn't notice when Eunsuk's slow but steady messages cut out of her life. However, it was definitely a strange development, one that made her stomach twist in unpleasant knots. And though she started receiving recruitments from labs within her mother country (Korea), whenever she called Serom or her father no one seemed to be available to talk to her, making her insecurity and unease dig deeper within her heart. When Sekyung was 20, a sudden call at 2 AM startled her as she made her way home from a long night at the lab. Serom's caller ID flashed across the screen, filling her with dread and chills traveling up her spine like the time she'd jumped to save her father from her mother. Sekyung fumbled with her phone in the cold night air and picked up, breathlessly answering. It was then that Serom broke down crying on the other end of the line, frantically asking why she hadn't been responding to texts. Upon Sekyung's confusion at the mention of text messages, the two sisters determined that their communication had been restricted for whatever reason. Serom then proceeded to tell Sekyung two things that would change her life completely yet again: Eunsuk was missing, and their father had been quarantined after testing positive for being infected with the virus.
  66. Sekyung accepted a recruitment letter from a lab affiliated with HIM, the ruling party in Korea, with the purpose of finding out what happened to her family, bidding her aunt and uncle farewell. Her life was crumbling to dust because of this, and there was no way she was going to let life, the government, nor HIM take away the one good thing she'd ever had in life.

  70. + sitting alone in the lab late at night
  71. + reading neuroscience research papers (and practically anything else)
  72. + tea
  73. + children
  74. + neat handwriting
  75.
  76. ㅡ DISLIKES :
  77. + alcohol
  78. + burning smell
  79. + coffee
  80. + loud noises
  81. + glass bottles
  82. + clocks
  83.
  84. ㅡ HABITS :
  85. + Sekyung has a habit of biting her lips whenever she wants to say something but isn't sure how to say it (which is really, really often).
  86. + She picks at her cuticles when someone else she doesn't know well enough to converse with is in the room. It sometimes causes minor bleeding.
  87. + Sekyung pulls at her sleeves when she's wearing long sleeves. It's mostly absent minded, and she's thinking too deep to notice.
  88. + When she's sitting at her desk for a long time, she'll often start drumming her fingertips on the desktop. It keeps the boredom away.
  89. + She has a really bad habit of brushing back her hair when she's leaning forward to work, as her hair is usually too short to tie up.
  90. + Sekyung often thinks with her elbow on the table and chin place atop her hand, eyes closed as she lets her mind work.
  91.
  92. ㅡ TRIVIA :
  93. + Sekyung is fairly tall! She's about 170cm.
  94. + She still keeps in touch with her aunt and uncle often, but communication has gotten less frequent since the outbreaks, and in all honesty, she's very scared.
  95. + Though it's not often, when Sekyung plays the piano, she thinks it's very freeing, and helps her drive some of her insecurities away.
  96. + She always tries to keep some money around from her own pay for her mother. She doesn't want her sister trying to cover for her mother's crap.
  97. + Sekyung is older than Namjoon, and oftentimes acts cold towards him.
  98.
  99. SCENE SUGGESTIONS :
  100. + If Namjoon is shady (he sounds like he could be, judging from his description) a kind of confrontation scene. Sekyung bites back her fear and lashes out him, almost resenting him for the quarantining of her father.
  101. + Where one of them (Namjoon and Sekyung) accuse the other of being infected with the virus... (it's kind of simple but it'd be dramatic and fun)
  102. + Namjoon and Sekyung wouldn't be a couple with just easy dynamics... there'll probably be a lot of tension and angsty vibes! (But it's also like... completely up to you...)
