My music box has three main mechanical functionalities. The first process which my music box is made to do is receive energy, it does this by using the clockwise motion the crank to apply tension to a coiled watch spring inside of the spring unit. The watch spring is secured to the cover of the spring unit using a cut in the casing that acts as a hook to secure it. The spring is made to naturally return to a straight form, it is wound around the shaft in a counterclockwise manner and therefore when it is wound further by clockwise motion it has a tendency to release the energy, thus spinning the shaft counterclockwise. The second process is the release of stored energy used to create sound. Starting at the spring unit, the clock spring turns counterclockwise to turn a large gear that is aligned horizontally with the base. The large horizontal gear that is directly affixed to the spring shaft then meshes with a vertical gear that is attached to the music spool. After the spring gear transfer's its rotation to the gear affixed to the spool, the movement splits off into two separate gear chains.  The first gear chain is the musical section, a medium sized gear is rigidly attached to the smaller gear, and the music spool is rigidly attached to that, therefore, the music spool will turn at the same speed as the smaller gear and in turn create sound by moving the tines of the comb. A second gear chain regulates the tempo, it starts with a medium-small gear that meshes with the medium gear of the music spool, this gear meshes with a small vertical gear that is attached to an axel, which transfers the rotation to another medium-small gear that the other end. This medium-small gear attached to the axel meshes with a helix-threaded shaft of a small fan, which causes the fan to rotate rapidly due to the high gear ratio, thus significantly slowing down the revolution of the music spool. The final function of my product is the storage of energy, this is accomplished by a lever that sticks out the walls of the box, and is pushed down when the lid closes. The lever, in turn, crosses the path of the revolving fan, effectually stopping teh motion of the entire device.
