Proposal


Introduction –

In a group of three we have chosen to research six different songwriters to evolve our songwriting skills, our knowledge of historical development and their influences throughout the songwriters careers. We decided on researching six songwriters because as there are three of us contributing towards the assignment, it results in each of us doing an even amount of contribution and research. Afterwards we will then eliminate the weakest out of our six songwriters so that we have a total of five at the end, this is so we don’t over-crowd our assignment. The songwriters we have chosen to research are: Roger Waters, Syd Barrett, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga and John Legend.

Artist Composition –

We plan to study the structure of each artists work, and research about how they put together their songs; including both lyrics and the music behind them. We will also analyze the lyrics, trying to determine the reasoning behind them and the emotions they were going through at the time, then research about the artist to form a clear piece of writing constructed of facts and our personal opinions about their compositions.

Angle of Discussion –

The plan of how we are going to address the historical development and influences of our artists is to find out the main composers that would have been an influence in the songwriting skills of our chosen artists, then have a look at the development of their career through time and finally discuss who they’ve been an influence to, and to why they are still popular today.

Resources/Methods of Research –

To acquire the information needed for our assignment, we will go on line to use a range of websites, go to the library and read through various books and look through previous interviews with the artist to get as much accurate information as we can. We will then search through CDs and videos to analyze our chosen artists and form accurate opinions that apply to our assignment. At the end of our research we will structure a bibliography, listing where we found out our information.

Conclusion –

Finally, we will summarize up all of our research, referring back to previous paragraphs in the essay, concluding what we found out and how that’s important and relevant to our current assignment.
