  1. >Mike at the hospital shortly after the raid
  2. >Still unconscious most of the time
  3. >Since he's still part of 87-B even after all the moves they're the ones who get the earliest visits
  4. >Bonnibel doesn't think she could go to the hospital without breaking down, even with the progress she's made
  5. >So after several days of assuring Chiclet that its fine, everyone should go and she'll be fine spending the day with Beanie and Chichi, the rest of the apartment goes
  6. >Despite the best efforts to keep her spirits high and the visit off her mind, not going eats away at her
  7. >She resolves to go the next time the apartment goes
  8.
  9. >Bonnibel manages to make it through the hospital without incident by keeping her head forward and her eyes on the prize
  10. >She was so armored up for the hospital that she left herself entirely unguarded for seeing Mike in his hospital bed
  11. >It isn't pretty.
  12.
  13.
  14. How bad is it?
  15.
  16.
  17. >There isnt the storm that usually comes with her breakdowns, not at first anyway
  18. >As far as any of them can tell she's taking it well, standing quietly at his bedside, holding the frame and looking at his currently-asleep face
  19. >Carrol had apologized that he wasnt awake this morning, that he needed some pretty heavy doses of painkillers the night before and was going to be out of it if he did wake up.
  20. >It's only when Mangle rests a paw on her shoulder and feels her jump nearky an entire inch without saying anything or breaking her stare that they realize she's having an attack
  21. >Chiclet immediately tries to gently pull her away, but Bonnibel's grip on the bed is tight and they dont want to disturb Mike by violently ripping her off
  22. >But with Bonnibel's deathgrip on the frame, they're not sure if they could anyway
  23. >Everyone's talking to her, reassuring her while Mangle tries to wiggle her paws between Bonnibel's and the frame to hold them
  24. >Nearly breaks a digit with how hard she's gripped
  25. >Chiclet attempt to talk her back
  26. >"Bonnie, he's going to get better. Dont worry"
  27. >She breaks her stare at Mike for an instant to look at Chica. Her voice is shaky, but certain.
  28. >"You're right, because I'll stay here to help."
  29. >The room share a worried expression, still trying to gently pull her away
  30. >"Dr Rabbinson will help him all he needs Bonnie, you can't just stay here day and night- where will you sleep? What about your medications?"
  31. >The rabbit briefly and fruitlessly tries to shake them off of her before responding again
  32. >"She isn't one of us! Mike is ours, I'll sleep in here, on a chair- you guys can bring me my meds it'll be- it'll be-"
  33. >She's on the verge of hyperventilating. Any effort to pull her off stops at that moment, with her housemates opting instead to pull themselves to her in an embrace
  34. >It calms her afew steps back, but not completely. She feels Freddy's paws over her own. If anyone was going to pry her off by force, it was going to be him
  35.
  36. >Bonnibel's gone from determined to near hysterics in an instant
  37. >"Mike's ours, one of us, how could we let him do this-"
  38. >She chokes back a sob.
  39. >Chiclet and Mangle are wordless in response. Her emotions about this don't go entirely unshared throughout 87-B, after all.
  40. >"And- and we're supposed to keep up like this? Not even be the ones to keep him safe? Mike, he's ours- he's mine, we have to-"
  41. >She's interrupted as several things happen in an instant.
  42. >Bonnie, finally saying what deep down she knows will have to happen, tightens her grip on the bed even further before finally releasing it
  43. >Freddy and Chiclet both try to say something to reassure Bonnie as well as themselves, interrupting each other as they do
  44. >And, most importantly, Mike stirs from his sleep
  45. >All eyes are on him as he attempts to stretch off his grogginess, hampered by the bandages and casts set up in slings
  46. >His eyes and posture in bed show that while he's awake, he's certainly not all there with the painkillers keeping him in a haze
  47. >His voice matches his expression, placid but happy to see his friends. There's all the excitement he can muster through the drugs in his voice
  48. >"Blueberry, you made it!"
  49. >He sees her paws on his bedside and tries to take them in one of his, fruitlessly trying against the wiring until she reaches out and holds onto his hand
  50. >A dopey grin slowly creeps across his face as he looks at his roommates, painkillers working wonders for him
  51. >"It's nice to see you all, how's the apartment?"
  52. >"Nous le gardons prêt pour tu, mon ami."
  53. >Mike nods abit too much but it's uncertain if its exaggerated because he doesn't understand Freddy or because of the drugs
  54. >"And how's everyone else?"
  55. >He gives Bonnibel's hand a squeeze and looks at Chiclet
  56. >"Did you talk to Cheeky like you said you would?"
  57. >The hen groans. Of course he'd press this immediately.
  58. >"I did. I apologized for blowing up at her, she apologized for not calling sooner."
  59. >Mike seems pleased to hear that the two hens made atleast alittle peace. He heard from Mangle during their first visit that Chiclet had gone practically postal when she got the news that he was being loaded up into an ambulance, having led a charge back into Jeremy's again and noone telling them. Again.
  60. >He closes his eyes and loosens his grip so that Bonnibel can pull away before speaking again
  61. >"And I'm sorry too. I should've told you all about it, we just went from planning to action and..."
  62. >If he could, he'd gesture to the entirety of his wounds but in his condition the best he can do is sway one arm alittle
  63. >"I didn't think it'd be worse the second time around."
  64. >He feels Bonnie squeeze his hand this time, having never pulled away, before Chiclet continues
  65. >"Well we all know you don't think, that's not news."
  66. >Mike tries to laugh at the jab but winces at the pain in his chest
  67. >Everyone notices and takes a half step in, but Mike nod-waves their concern away
  68. >"I'm fine- I'm fine."
  69. >True to his word, he looks like the pain has past for the moment.
  70. >Bonnibel has brought herself as close to the hand she's holding as she can, practically resting her face against it.
  71. >"I'm not leaving you here alone."
  72. >Mangle lets out a sigh. With the commotion of Mike waking up, they'd hoped that this had past but clearly it hadn't
  73. >"Freddy dear, he won't be alone. Last time we were here for just about three hours and they had nurses in five different times. Mike's getting plenty of care"
  74. >Mike looks between the two of them confused, and almost starts to ask what's going on before Bonnie interrupts him with her own exclamations
  75. >"Nurses aren't us though! Look at him and tell me you want to leave him like this, either I'm staying or he's coming back with us or- OR-"
  76. >Bonnie locks up, repeating her last "or" again and again like a seal until Mike squeezes down on her hand with as much force as he can gather
  77. >"Look at me Bonnie, I'm not going anywhere like this- I think Carrol would finish me off herself if I tried to sit up too much, let alone leave and you-"
  78. >Her face is still right next to his hand. He wiggles himself free of their mutual grip and tries to brush the beginnings of tears from her eyes
  79. >"You can't stay. I'm only in this room by myself for alittle bit longer, before they're moving me to a shared one. And all your things, pajama nights, your medications: they're back home where you belong."
  80. >Chiclet rubs her shoulders to comfort the blue bunny, Mike's efforts to wipe her tears proving a failure as she cried over him
  81. >"You- you-"
  82. >Bonnibel heaves out a sob and tries to collect what she wants to say
  83. >"How can I leave you like this- alone, with all your- with all this-"
  84. >She gestures at all of his bandages and stitching in lieu of bringing herself to actually say it. For a moment it looks like she's about to collapse forward onto him before Freddy steadies her from behind to keep her from potentially opening something back up if she had
  85. >"I'm not alone Bonnibel, you all have visited me twice in just a week, and I get plenty of care from the nurses here when you guys aren't around."
  86. >Bonnie looks him in the eyes through her tears. She feels defeated, but there's still the worry in her face
  87. >"And look, when I'm good enough that they can put me in something other than this hospital gown, you guys can come back down and we'll figure some way to do pajama nights out here."
  88. >There's a meager return of her smile now, so he presses the angle
  89. >"There's one thing you two do way better than the nurses here: pick out comfy clothes. I'd go back to Jeremy's a third time for those pajamas you two chose"
  90. >Bonnibel's chuckle was the signal the others needed to join in, Chiclet giving her afew pats and picking up the baton
  91. >"We'll bring them over next time, along with something to watch. I'm sure it beats sitting around asleep or watching daytime television."
  92. >Chiclet looks at Mike's face, now able to look at him without the looming fear of Bonnibel having a larger outburst in his hotel room
  93. >He seems happy that Bonnibel's moment is passing but she swears that for a moment his smile betrays him sucking air through his teeth
  94. >She's about to pry when Mangle speaks up, continuing the banter about movie night
  95. >Talking about snacks, and making sure that they bring something that wont get Mike in trouble with Carrol for having
  96. >Chiclet has half a mind to press Mike on whatever discomfort he's feeling but decides to let it lie when the door opens for a finch in nurses scrubs pulling along a cart.
  97. >"Oh, he's awake. Sorry to interrupt but..."
  98. >He pulls a tray out from the cart, more painkillers from the looks
  99. >"It's been awhile since his last dose, and we're going to be moving him to get an xray on those arms so..."
  100. >He pats the top of the cart, and Mike's hidden grimace and coherence suddenly make a bit more sense to Chiclet
  101. >Mike probably woke up from pain, not their commotion, and didn't want to express it and have them leave
  102. >He gives his roommates a look. It's clear that he doesn't want this to end, but he knows it'll have to.
  103. >"Could we have a few more minutes? The xray guy won't notice, right?"
  104. >The nurse looks like he's heard this request a hundred times from a hundred people and said no to most of them
  105. >"I'm sorry but we really can't."
  106. >The spirit of the room falls as the nurse changes his IV bag and slowly adds in the dose
  107. >"You'll have alittle bit before you start feeling out of it again, but we're on a bit of a time crunch fitting in this visit to begin with so..."
  108. >Chiclet nods, trying to be understanding. She takes a quick look and sees Bonnibel trying to look anywhere but at the nurse
  109. >Freddy breaks the quiet that noone can bring themselves to
  110. >"Quoi qu'il en soit, merci d'avoir pris soin de lui."
  111. >The nurse finished his task and looks at the bear confused until Mike fills in for him
  112. >"I think he's just thanking you."
  113. >Mike shifts, trying not to tense up at the thought of the painkillers as if it made a difference
  114. >"Well. I'll be back in alittle bit to come and bring you over to the radiographer, so if you have anything you want to still say to each other..."
  115. >The nurse walks back to the door and to their cart, leaving the final bit unsaid for everyone as he slides the door closed. There's a silence again, and it's Mike that breaks it
  116. >"C'mon now, I'm about to pass out and probably wake up tomorrow: Did you all come out to watch me start drooling?"
  117. >He says it with a laugh to push away his nerves, and gets a small laugh out of Bonnibel
  118. >"I'd offer to wipe it up for you but I don't think you'd let me"
  119. >The light joke sets the tone back, and after a few minutes of more discussing what Mike'd want they notice him slowly grow quieter and quieter
