- It is the third time this setting expands. Whew, dear. This little thingy is growing a little isn't it? Well then, what ARE we waiting for!
- The Hole is not a nice place. The people who live there, make use of the advanced technologies to build their underground cities, the eponymous Holes. The cursed, that haunt the area, live within the cover of the volcanoes, and the leadership of their more powerful brethren. Other factions, such as the Dragon Horde, or the rebel group lead by the elusive Oria, have settled very close to the borders, where conditons are better.
- But what happens, when you get none of these comforts? What happens when you are not a citizen, cursed, nor a rebel or a horde member? It is this, the fate that befalls many of this nations population. They live in the barren land, trying to build their own life with what they can. But resources are scarce, and so are lives. One cannot stay in one place for long either, in fear of the natural conditions present. Thus, they are forced to adapt a few... Survival tactics. And with that, I present to you, my beloved rpers, the Hole Touristic Survival Guide, made by, who else, Aeth!
- First of all, driving. One of the barest necessities of surviving in the Hole territories, is having a ride, and knowing how to work your magic with it. There are no roads, and the few ones that do exist, are controlled by violent criminals or otherwise dwellers of the Hole, but who also happen to be fiercely protective of their roads. And, if you were in their place, you'd probably be too! Roads are important.
- And they often ask for payment to let you past. And if you don't pay, they try to kill you. Fighting them is usually a bad idea since if they cannot kill you, they'll dow hat they can to damage your car. And even if you can kill them first, your car will be at a considerable risk. And you don't wanna put it at that position. The rides themselves are oft ones stolen from the Hole cities, and modified over time to fit other purposes, if the need arises.
- Second of all, being strong. Strength is very important here. You need to avoid curses, as well as survive in harsh conditions. Not to mention, hunger and thirst are going to be a problem. Make sure to draw a map, and remember things well too. Attention, reflexes and concentration are important, as they could help you detect an ambush. Do make sure you find a safe place to sleep. You could be killed then. And you also need sleep. Not to mention, you could have things stolen from you too, so...attention!
- What else, what else...hmm, friends! You need some allies in here too. You better make them, and keep them. Sure, backstabbing might get you some extra resources for once, but infamy is quick to spread in here. Nobody's gonna want to play with you if you're a cheater after all, and if you don't play you...umm...die horribly to the mutants out there, or fall into the lava pits. Yeah never-mind the metaphor. It's pretty tough out there to be fair.
- But what IS in this territory of the Hole? Well... First of all, there are natural dangers. The lava pits, as mentioned, as well as various storms, volcanic explosions, pyroclastic matter, and of course, lava pits which have formed beneath the ground, and only have a thin layer of it somewhere above them. These are believed to have been made intentionally, to bury soulfire fiends, before less painful means of handling them were discovered. Watch your step!
- And of course, the mutants! Oh dear, you see, the war between the Order when it was still at its peak, and the cursed, took place largely in this area. And the various magics produced by said war, left behind a painful effect. The mutating agents, often mixed in with things as simple and commonplace as soil, or into those large dust storms. Now, originally these were far more spread out, but with time, the effect of the mutating agents has considerably dampened.
- Nowadays one would need to literally drink or eat a concentrated dose of it to possibly trigger a medium or minor change. The original mutants however, have bred over time, and still remain at large. Some of them, with still persistent intellect, even remain at the head, or are otherwise integrated into various gangs or groups. Most are violent madmen nonetheless, and a few still live as normal wanderers. Mutants are nasty, yeah! Be careful of them!
- Now, for something new, mutants can develop magical or semi magical abilities at time. Psychism, manipulation of the surrounding environments, or even cases of people melding with their very rides, or their weapons are not unheard of. Also, needless to stay, there are still areas when the mutative energies are strong, areas one is advised to stay far from.
- The Swamp, is one such area. It is simply called so for being the only significant, and even then, a very large one at that, swamp in the whole area. Its precise location is unknown, but it is said that mutants with great powers live there. Not only this, but there are rumors of clans, of humans and mutants lashing out in brutal combat, within its grounds, for control of, something, that is supposedly very desirable. Nobody has been able to get more information on it, which is bizarre, for the area, and even more so unexpected.
- The Vault of the Dead, is another nasty area, where corpses lie animated, by the mutating agents, and few people dare go. However, it is also a large vault, where the warring Order once stored resources, in preparation of building a base that would allow them better control over the area. Ultimately, it was scrapped as a plan, for the building of the Holes, and the Order had a hard enough time trying to bring back the resources they put there, that they just let it go.
- One of the more revered events the Vault Raid, is an annual celebration, when the many gangs, or even lone wanderers of the Hole gather together, and raid the Vaults of the Dead. Not all of them participate however, mostly, the ones who need it. Compared to the more well off groups that gather road taxes, or the ones living in the Scrap Dome, so it is mostly an event for the "low castes" if you can call the, that. It also serves to continuously lessen their numbers, as other than fighting the undead and mutants, the raiders also fight among themselves.
- The Scrapdome. A large colony, built around a massive dome, that is built in several layers. An old prototype of the Holes, until it was realized that it would eventually succumb, and that "deeper is better" according to the report. Who knows why they thought of that. Really, who knows. Inside, several stronger groups have laid their "nests" and thus, are safely hidden in it. However, "living" is not as much as what is done as is "spend some time, until you need to leave due to the ground filling up with lava".
- They do return once this is over however, and continue their activities. The Marquis of the Wasteland is its current ruler, followed by the most vicious gang leaders, Pitshark, the Ursine Dreadrider, and Road Eater Magnus. Their gangs are spread out over the entire land, and they only sit here with their most loyal followers. Killing a member of their gang will draw their ire, and that of said following however, so do be careful.
