  1. The Wind Waker HD Puzzle - A Peaceful Hero, Solution by azer67
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.
  6. Goal: Obtain the Hero's Charm
  7. Restrictions: no swordfighting outside GT, no sword in Savage Labyrinth, no sailing in FF, no FIT.
  8.
  9. The first question to ask yourself is what exactly is required in the Savage Labyrinth to get the Hero's Charm. Realistically, the Power Bracelets are required to be able to enter. A TAS can maybe skip this requirement though. Once inside, the Wind Waker, the Wind's Requiem and the Mirror Shield are required to progress after floor 30, so that will be our main focus.
  10. There are two ways to get the mirror shield: from the Puppet Ganon/Post-Puppet Ganon/Ganondorf cutscene, or from the Earth Temple. We will end up having no choice as you will see.
  11.
  12. Before the route starts, I want to point out the biggest issue you might have: it's entering the Savage Labyrinth without the sword. Obviously, to get the Power Bracelets, we need to have visited Hyrule at least once (either for the light arrows, or for the fire and ice arrows). Going to Hyrule means we are picking up a master sword on the way. So, how do we lose a master sword??
  13. If you know the beginner any% route, you might know the answer: by going to the Forsaken Fortress via a Pirate Ship. For that to work, the Spoils Bag is actually required, and the gossip stone must not be picked up as it would change the state of the pirate ship. This means we can't get bombs before going swordless.
  14.
  15.
  16. Let's get started with the route!
  17.
  18.
  19.
  20.
  21.
  22. Intro Cutscene
  23. Outset Escape to Dragon Roost Island
  24.
  25. ********************************************************************************************************
  26. Fighting Orca is not allowed, since there must be no swordfighting outside of GT. A manual superswim is necessary.
  27. ********************************************************************************************************
  28.
  29. Wind Waker
  30. Wind's Requiem
  31. Rock Skip
  32. Delivery Bag
  33. Komali's Letter
  34. Bottle
  35. Enter DRC
  36.
  37. ********************************************************************************************************
  38. Nothing to say here.
  39. ********************************************************************************************************
  40.
  41. Swordless DRC up to Grappling Hook (with warp pot)
  42. Use a bokoblin sword to break the barricade
  43. Use warp pot
  44. Swordless Early DRC Big Key
  45. Get the Big Key by stunning the magtail with the grappling hook (2 hits)
  46. Backtrack to the warp pot
  47. Enter Gohma
  48. Defeat Gohma (with grappling hook and pots)
  49. Get the Heart Container
  50. Din's Pearl
  51.
  52. ********************************************************************************************************
  53. The first part is identical to an any% run. Din's Pearl is required in order to clear the South Wind Flag before Hyrule. The boss key skip with the leaf cannot be performed in this challenge, as the leaf can't be obtained now (see why later). The heart container pick up may be strange, but it's actually HIGHLY recommended.
  54. ********************************************************************************************************
  55.
  56. Superswim to Windfall
  57. Free Tingle
  58. Buy the Sail (do the rupee route you want, really)
  59.
  60. ********************************************************************************************************
  61. Din's Pearl will trigger the softlock just like the bombs can do. It is crucial to buy the sail to avoid it. Even if Din's Pearl is obtained after FF1, the sail is still required in order to leave Hyrule.
  62. ********************************************************************************************************
  63.
  64. Superswim to FCP
  65. Play the minigame
  66. Island Hop to DRI
  67. Superswim to Outset
  68. Enter the Pirate Ship (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_pLmFfhGdQ)
  69. Get the Spoils Bag
  70.
  71. *********************************************************************************************************
  72. There are several ways to get the Spoils Bag, and any of them work really. Here are other ways to get the Spoils Bag that work:
  73.
  74. 1) Get the Hero's Clothes, get the telescope, watch the Pirate cutscene, item slide to the Pirate Ship, get Spoils Bag
  75. or
  76. 2) Learn the Song of Passing, superswim to the Northern Fairy Isle submarine, get caught, leave jail, item slide to the pirate ship (do not pick up the gossip stone), enter the Pirate Ship, leave right away, play SoP, re-enter, get Spoils Bag
  77.
  78. The Spoils Bag chest will only appear during day-time. If you enter a pirate ship during the night, the spoils bag chest will simply just not exist. If you were hoping to get the Spoils Bag with the Endless Night Pirate Ship, well, too bad.
  79. **********************************************************************************************************
  80.
  81. Savewarp (to FF1 Pirate Ship Deck)
  82. Watch the Barrel Launching cs
  83.
  84. **********************************************************************************************************
  85. This cutscene is actually required to watch for this challenge. If you don't watch it, the FF1 exterior won't remove your sword later, which is what we want to lose the master sword. This cs crashes with animation set 2.
  86. **********************************************************************************************************
  87.
  88. Skip the Gossip Stone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEKWoZQLmxc)
  89.
  90. **********************************************************************************************************
  91. If you don't do this, you're ultra-screwed
  92. **********************************************************************************************************
  93.
  94. Defeat the 1st searchlight
  95. Deku Stick Hover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVAZlgJXoeg)
  96. Throw the stick accross the large gap and use it to defeat the Bokoblin
  97. Open the door to beat FF1
  98.
  99. **********************************************************************************************************
  100. Fighting the bokoblin at the top with the sword is out of the question. Because we can't get the bombs early for this challenge to work, we just can't defeat him easily. Deku Stick Hover seems like the easiest solution, but Door Clip is also possible.
  101. A way to kill the bokoblin by pushing him off the ledge would by the way be amazing, pls find this
  102. You can or not pick up the hero's sword. It doesn't really matter.
  103. Remember that the deku stick hover will only work on normal mode.
  104. **********************************************************************************************************
  105.
  106. Spawn at Windfall
  107. Superswim to FF2
  108. Enter Helmaroc (layer manip)
  109. Helmaroc Skip
  110. Early Master Sword
  111. Down to Hyrule 2
  112.
  113. **********************************************************************************************************
  114. We are indeed going down to Hyrule with only the grappling hook and a quiver. No bombs and no leaf at our disposal. We couldn't get the leaf because we couldn't get bombs, and fighting anything with our sword is banned. We also got the master sword we want to lose.
  115. **********************************************************************************************************
  116.
  117. Courtyard cutscene
  118.
  119. **********************************************************************************************************
  120. This cutscene is really weird. If you watch this cutscene before beating FF1, the game crashes. It's also the only cutscene that triggers the last savewarping flag (the flag that gets set when you enter KoRL).
  121. Because we have Din's Pearl, the sail, and we triggered the last savewarping flag at the same time, we also clear the South Wind Flag automatically. If you don't know what that means, it just means that starting now, we can enter KoRL basically whenever. Which is important in order to leave Hyrule.
  122. If you didn't get Din's Pearl, you would be stuck in Hyrule with no way to get back to the overworld
  123. **********************************************************************************************************
  124.
  125. Tetra to Zelda cutscene
  126.
  127. **********************************************************************************************************
  128. This is for story progression. You won't be allowed in the boat in Hyrule 2 before you watch this cutscene. This is also one of the necessary triggers to progress the story and make Medli appear on DRI (am I spoiling what comes next?)
  129. **********************************************************************************************************
  130.
  131. Barrier Skip
  132. Enter Ganon's Tower
  133. Trials Skip without Deku Leaf (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WvKG34QO4k)
  134. Enter the Phantom Ganon maze
  135. Defeat Phantom Ganon with the Master Sword
  136. Get Light Arrows
  137.
  138. **********************************************************************************************************
  139. We don't have the leaf, we don't have magic. We have to perform the leafless Trials Skip to get deeper in Ganon' Tower. We get the light arrows by using the Master Sword (that's why swordfighting is allowed in GT), but because we don't have magic, it only acts like a regular bow.
  140. We can't defeat or get past Phantom Ganon. So we cannot get to Puppet Ganon for the mirror shield.
  141. Since sailing through the dark portal in FF is banned, and since we didn't get the Command Melody for the Wind Temple, we cannot get the Fully Charged Master Sword, meaning we can't go back to Hyrule once we leave. The Earth Temple mirror shield is our only hope left.(If you got the PG Mirror Shield somehow, then congratz, you broke the puzzle)
  142. **********************************************************************************************************
  143.
  144. Go to Hyrule Field and save and quit
  145. Select hero mode
  146. Leave via the courtyard portal
  147. Auto-sail to Eastern Triangle Island
  148.
  149. *********************************************************************************************************
  150. The reason for hero mode will be explained later.
  151. Leaving through the dark portal is banned, since that counts as sailing in FF (why do you think that rule exists? :P). Because we leave through TotG, we immediately activate the trigger that makes Medli spawn in DRI, and FF2 become FF3.
  152. If leaving through the dark portal was allowed, then the skull hammer would have been obtainable. But now it's not.
  153. (Do you know how to get the skull hammer without using the Master Sword by the way?)
  154. Because we don't have Farore's Pearl, sailing is only possible between Windfall and DRI and between DRI and FH. The Ballad of Gales is unobtainable.
  155. The fire and ice arrows from M&C are also unobtainable, but it's because you cannot escape the softlock caused by KoRL trying to auto-sail away after the cutscene (trust me, if it didn't softlock after the cs, M&C early would have made it into the challenge :P)
  156. *********************************************************************************************************
  157.
  158. Sail to Bomb Island
  159. Superswim to Thorned Fairy
  160. Quiver Clip for Quiver early
  161. Get a fairy
  162.
  163. ********************************************************************************************************
  164. As you may have guessed, we're not going to TotG to get the bow (and we can't anymore now). The fairy may not be required, but it will definitely help make the challenge a lot easier.
  165. ********************************************************************************************************
  166.
  167. Superswim to FCP
  168. Play the minigame
  169. Island Hop to DRI
  170. Superswim to Outset
  171. Enter the Pirate Ship (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_pLmFfhGdQ)
  172. Leave right away (Link is now swordless)
  173. Escape the Pirate Ship
  174. Item slide to FF1
  175. Get the Gossip Stone
  176. Item slide back to the Pirate Ship (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF9N1CvNDsE)
  177. Enter the Pirate Ship
  178. Get Bombs
  179. Leave normally to Windfall
  180.
  181. **********************************************************************************************************
  182. There is a lot to talk about here. We want to get the bombs now, and so we have go swordless right now as well. To go swordless, we need to enter a pirate ship.
  183. There is no Pirate Ship on Windfall during endless night in post-Hyrule 2 state. Endless Night won't screw up anything now, but it won't help you. The only way to access a pirate ship is to escape FCP.
  184. After leaving the pirate ship to FF1 (only possible because we skipped the gossip stone earlier), we become swordless. That would not have happened if you didn't watch the barrel cs, so makes sure you did that early on.
  185. Now, we want to get bombs. The barrel launching cs doesn't exist anymore, so we have to escape the ship and item slide to FF1 to get the gossip stone, which allows us to get bombs. We cannot get caught by a lantern moblin after having picked up the master sword, that may also have surprised you.
  186.
  187. Starting now, we CANNOT SAVEWARP!! Savewarping makes the game give us back the Master Sword, which we don't want because starting now, we can't lose our master sword anymore if we get it back. Luckily, we can simply leave the pirate ship to get back to Windfall.
  188. **********************************************************************************************************
  189.
  190. Superswim to Outset
  191. Get Grandma's Soup
  192.
  193. ***********************************************************************************************************
  194. You can only get Grandma's soup after you've picked up the gossip stone (?). Technically, this is not required, but will help a ton in ET and Savage. Also doing it before deku tree cs skip or else, well, the cs skip wouldn't work because of the fairy (thanks to MrIke for pointing out the mistake!)
  195. ***********************************************************************************************************
  196.
  197. Superswim to Forest Haven
  198. Deku Tree Cutscene Skip with bombs only (like this for exemple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZtQ9dDskpI)
  199. Deku Leaf and Magic
  200.
  201. **********************************************************************************************************
  202. This is why we wanted to get bombs right away, and this is why we wanted hero mode. We need magic to get the Power Bracelets to enter the Earth Temple. But watching the Deku Tree cutscene crashes the game with animation set 2 (which we got before the Helmaroc fight started).
  203. The cutscene skip is the only way to avoid that crash. Because savewarping gives us back our sword, and because the game crashes if we fail it, this is a huge pain.
  204. The cutscene skip must also be done swordless.
  205. This is the only way to get magic. The Big Octo on Two Eye Reef requires Farore's Pearl, which we don't have.
  206. **********************************************************************************************************
  207.
  208. Superswim to Fire Mountain
  209. Die or drown against the Mountain
  210. Shoot an ice arrows and enter the cave
  211. Defeat the Magtails (grappling hook+bomb, arrow+bomb, arrows, light arrows all work)
  212. Power Bracelets
  213. Leave normally
  214.
  215. ***********************************************************************************************************
  216. Luckily, we are allowed to sail in the Fire Mountain quadrant, that makes it pretty easy.
  217. Remember to never savewarp. NEVER! We have to stay on hero mode for the rest of the run (are you starting to understand why I got Gohma's heart container?) (Note: This become wrong after LegendOfLinkk proved the cs skip was possible in normal mode)
  218. We needed bombs to get the leaf, and we needed magic to get the Power Bracelets.
  219. ***********************************************************************************************************
  220.
  221. Island Hop, or sail, to DRI
  222. Superswim to Headstone
  223. Break the Headstone
  224. Learn the Earth God's Lyrics
  225. Superswim to DRI
  226. Play the song for Medli
  227. Superswim to Headstone
  228. Enter the Earth Temple
  229.
  230. ************************************************************************************************************
  231. If you thought entering the Earth Temple without the Power Bracelets was possible, well maybe. But the cutscene with Link and Medli entering together the temple will softlock if you didn't remove the headstone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vni7INtcTXY
  232. Now, this is the Earth Temple time to shine! If you got all the way here, congratulations, since I would say that the part coming up is the hardest to figure out.
  233. ************************************************************************************************************
  234.
  235. First Room with leaf-pumps (no Command Melody) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRKwNhk7ffo)
  236. Command Melody Skip in Chu Room (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bYICTVUyTQ, defeat the blue chus by throwing them)
  237. Statue Skip (2 ways to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdtJLxrDjc8 (sucks while swordless) or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q16oykBb48)
  238. First Song Stone Skip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_7hucDDIfg)
  239. Clip to get the Small Key in the Basement (use soup if necessary) (this is the secret strat of the puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO8arfhPxro)
  240. Get caught by a floormaster
  241.
  242. ************************************************************************************************************
  243. No Command Melody means we get to do some interesting strats in the first few rooms.
  244. Now, here comes the biggest puzzle in the run: how do I progress in ET without the hammer? The small key on the right wing cannot be obtained to unlock the left wing. And without the Command Melody, there is no way to bring medli with us in the basement.
  245. The answer: the basement key will unlock the left wing door.
  246. By performing a few clips, it's possible to get all the way to that key without Medli and without the Mirror Shield.
  247. Note that these clips require the leaf. And the Song Stone Skip requires bombs as far as I know.
  248. In the First Song Stone Room, there are many magic refills (near the Tingle Statue chest for exemple)
  249. To go back to the statue room without savewarping, you can either deathwarp with bombs or use a floormaster. The floormaster solution is the smartest.
  250. ************************************************************************************************************
  251.
  252. Open the left wing door with the basement key
  253. Staircase Skip (not required but faster)
  254. Command Melody Skip in block pulling room (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlVazDyjFws)
  255. Defeat both Moblins and Poes (use light arrows for exemple)
  256. Get the small key and defeat the Redeads with bombs or light arrows (you can also skip this small key with a really hard bomb roll clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbROZg4Pphk)
  257. Miniboss skip for Mirror Shield (you can also defeat them with light arrows) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTpOtYNibL8)
  258. Deathwarp out (you can also backtrack but it's really slow)
  259. Leave the Earth Temple
  260. Superswim to Outset
  261. Get a soup refill and enter the Savage Labyrinth
  262.
  263. ************************************************************************************************************
  264. Savage Labyrinth on 4 Hearts with Soup on hero mode can be difficult, but nothing in the challenge prevents you from getting another bottle or some other heart pieces if you really need it.
  265. You can do floor skips in every room, but you can also defeat almost every room. Here is how you can deal with enemies (only listing the easiest strats I could find):
  266.
  267. Miniblins: annoying, can be dealt with bombs or arrows (many don't know it, but the grappling hook can also kill them,
  268. it requires an absurd amount of hits)
  269. Keeses: Arrows and grappling hook are easiest
  270. Bokoblins and Moblins: They can kill each other, use their swords
  271. Peahats and boko babas: arrows
  272. Mothulas: ice arrow or normal arrows or bombs
  273. Redeads: light arrows or bombs (normal arrows don't work)
  274. Poes: arrows to knock off lantern and get possessed, or use mirror shield + arrows, or light arrows
  275. Dark Chus: mirror shield and throw them, or light arrows
  276. Stalfos: light arrows, or bombs + arrow spam (arrows only deal damage when the head is jumping around)
  277. Darknuts: Light arrows (this is the only way if you can't get an enemy sword in the same room)
  278. Blue Bubble: ice arrow or leaf + arrow
  279. **************************************************************************************************************
  280.
  281. Play the Wind's Requiem to get the Triforce Shard on floor 30
  282. Break the elephant statue with the mirror shield
  283.
  284. **************************************************************************************************************
  285. To aim with the mirror shield, pull your wind waker out to make Link hold something in his hand (remember, you don't have a sword).
  286. You can also break the statue by having Link's back facing it, and backwalking under the light as slowly as possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52F7KpYqUq4
  287. **************************************************************************************************************
  288.
  289. Mandatory floor skip on floor 43 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3XbA5OZHrU)
  290.
  291. **************************************************************************************************************
  292. No Skull Hammer = can't hammer the peg to make the wizzrobes spawn = mandatory floor skip
  293. No hookshot to do the usual floor skip on that kind of floor, but an item slide floor skip is still possible
  294. **************************************************************************************************************
  295.
