  1. Hi, what’s up? Today I’m going to talk about SubRocks, a YouTube alternative that released a month ago which I haven’t liked at all and I want to give my opinion about it. First off, I know really well that I’m on a dangerous position when speaking of this stuff when I’m a BitView mod, but what you will hear here is an uninfluenced opinion. Another thing that I don’t want is to have a war in the comments section, remember, no site is better than other, and if you like SubRocks it’s good, as you’re having fun and that’s what matters but that’s not my case and I’ll explain in an argued way the reasons in this video. Let’s start.
  2.
  3. What’s SubRocks
  4. The website is a YouTube clone based on how it look in early 2009, and a somewhat complete one, with a good part of the YouTube functions. It’s developed by Chief Bazinga, who previously developed FulpTube, a YouTube clone based on the 2013 design which closed and then was replaced with SubRocks.
  5.
  6. Problems
  7. The video quality is good and the website works well. But the problems start when you enter the website. First of all, the website is slow. Loading times can be as long as 15 seconds (even with good internet) and, sometimes, it can stutter. This is a big problem that happened with its predecesor, FulpTube. The site also has some very annoying bugs. These are the ones I found while using the website. Another important problem it the security it has. The website connects via http, which means the connection isn’t encrypted, which can bring some security problems. Another problem is the custom CSS in channels, which can change the comments’ content to some rude insult, as I’ve done in this example. Another problem, which is very severe, is that the images aren’t compressed and there’s no file size limitation, even when it says there is. Nothing sops you from uploading a super high res image, which brings some problems. First off, it can consume a lot of mobile data if used maliciously. This combined with the custom CSS can result in several GB’s in size with only entering a malicious channel.
  8.
  9. SubRocks is BitView’s competitor
  10. This isn’t a conspiracy theory that I’ve just made up, as even Chief recognizes this. Usually when there’s a new YouTube alternative site, it’s to offer a old YouTube-like experience while coexisting with the other alternatives. In SubRocks’ case the platform’s there just to, when BitView transitioned to the early 2009 design, accuse the website of copying SubRocks, but when vistafan12 announced the update to mid 2009, the next day, Chief announced the transition of SubRocks to mid 2009. This goes ever further.
  11.
  12. BitView and VidLii plagiarism
  13. A very shameless plagiarism is the one present on the homepage when signed in. This is the “Welcome Back” box in BitView, and the one in SubRocks. The curious thing here is that this box never existed in 2008 nor 2009 YouTube, and effectively, Chief copied it from BitView, as you can see from this screenshot. Another thing that was directly stolen for the BitView player, that is based from de VidLii one, is this image. This is how it looks in BitView, and this is how it looks in SubRocks [even the size is the same: 4349 bytes], but in YouTube the “play” icon actually has a border and the picture itself has a shadow. Other copied thing from BitView is the ”Recently Viewed” text. In BitView it’s “Recently Viewed” and in SubRocks it’s “Videos Recently Viewed”, while in the 2008 and 2009 YouTube it’s actually called “Videos being watched right now…”. The last thing is the player in the homepage, which is nowhere to be found in 2008 and 2009 YouTube but you can find it on VidLii. Not only that, as even Chief recognized sometimes that he copies some aspects of BitView. In fact, he talks a lot about BitView, he says BitView is dead, he says that SubRocks is better than BitView. This and more we’ll see later.
  14.
  15. Community
  16. We come to the part where the things become serious. SubRocks’ community is elitist, and want people to make good videos but, mostly, demand BitView users to do so. Meanwhile, the exact same people upload shitpost for SubRocks. The community is also very toxic, mostly towards their “competitor”, BitView. From emphasizing every single negative point of BitView, to even demand the developer, Vistafan, to update the website almost daily, and saying really disgusting and hurting things about the people which work on the site, but the one who takes this spotlight is Vistafan, being accused with no evidence from being a pedophile, among other things. In the video’s description you can find a .zip file with all the screenshots of this and more.
  17.
  18. Chief Bazinga
  19. One of the most implied persons on the last thing I’ve mentioned is the actual developer of the website, Chief Bazinga. He has a very immature behavior, mostly towards BitView, being sometimes jealous of the website and he’s one of the persons who take part on the vista’s pedophilia accusations, even questioning his defense when responding to these accusations, and made this disgusting comment completely behind his back, as he isn’t in the server. He also thinks that his platform is better than BitView which is a very arrogant thing in his side while copying some aspects of it. Meanwhile he is one of the persons who demand quality control on BitView while SubRocks’ video quality is not much different. He also thinks that SubRocks is going to take BitView’s place. With this and much more we can see that Chief Bazinga is a very bad-mannered, toxic and arrogant developer.
