- >Lincoln had been late to school today, had been scolded by his teacher, and had gotten into a fight with one of the local bullies.
- >So, when his sisters’ fighting took itself into Lincoln’s room, resulting into the destruction of his copy of Ace Savvy #3, the most vintage and valuable comic he owned, Lincoln Loud can hardly be blamed for figuratively exploding on them, citing his inability to have “ a single moment of silence,” and that they “ruined everything.”
- >Red-faced and steaming, Lincoln shoved his sisters out of his room .
- >“Get out!” He screamed.
- >Anger exuding from him, Lincoln jumped on his bed, burying his head in his pillow, screaming.
- >The Loud sisters were concerned at this.
- >They had seen Lincoln angered at them before, but rarely with this level of ferocity.
- >“I feel really bad about ruining his favorite comic book,” Lola admitted, casting her eyes to the floor.
- >“Me too, man. That was way harsh,” agreed Luna.
- >“I know exactly what we should do!” Exclaimed Lori, ever the leader.
- >Several hours later, Lincoln was still screaming into his pillow.
- >What’s wrong with me, he thought. They didn’t mean to trash my room or destroy my stuff.
- >Lincoln had gone through this cycle a thousand times.
- >He knew it would end with him apologizing to his sisters, them apologizing to him, and they would move on.
- >Why he was so fixated to holding onto his own anger, he couldn’t figure out. Maybe it was because of the comic?
- > Yeah, that had to be it, he figured.
- >Regardless, after calming himself down, Lincoln decided to head out of his room. “Hey guys,” he called.
- >No one answered. That’s weird.
- >The Loud house was unusually quiet at the moment. He could always make out the sounds of at least a few of his sisters at this time of day.
- >But right now, not a single sound. Just as he was going to begin searching their rooms, the living room phone began to rang.
- >“Hello,” Lincoln answered.
- ---
- >“Yes, is this the Loud residence?” A voice called back.
- >“Yes…”
- >“I’m calling from Royal Woods Hospital.”
- >“Hospital?” Lincoln voice faltered, barely pronouncing the last syllable.
- >“Yes, may I speak to the head of household please?”
- >“O-oh, yeah. One sec.” Lincoln raced to his parents’ room to grab his father.
- >“Dad, Dad!” He exclaimed.
- >“Lincoln?” Mr. Loud asked, confusion etched on his face.
- >“The hospital is calling they want to talk to one of you.” Lincoln said, his voice still shaking.
- >Mr. and Miss. Loud shared a look of confusion with each other before Lincoln’s father nodded and made his way to the kitchen.
- >“Mom, why is the hospital calling?” Lincoln asked his mother, looking up into her eyes.
- >Moments like these were when Miss Loud was slapped in the face with a cold reality: for all his maturity and intelligence, Lincoln Loud was still only a child. Ever since he was old enough to talk, Lincoln had acted as an anchor for his sister, always their rock. It disturbed her greatly to see his facade cracking before her so readily.
- >“I don’t know, honey,” she answered. “Maybe one of your sisters hurt herself? We’ll just have to see.”
- >“It’ll be okay,” she clarified, holding her son as she saw the beginning of tears begin to form in his eyes.
- >Just as Miss. Loud was formulating a comforting speech in her head, her husband came running into their room.
- >“We need to go. Now.”
- >“What happened?” She asked, standing up.
- >“It’s the girls,” Mr. Loud began, “they were in a car accident.”
- >“What?” Miss. Loud’s heartbeat stood still, for a moment unable to process what she had heard.
- >“The doctors say it’s imperative we make our way over there immediately,” Mr. Loud continued, slipping on his jacket. “We’ll take your car.”
