After leaving for three years for work/studying/whatever, you (the speaker) finally come back, ready to start your life back at home. On your first day back, you go visit your best friend. You find them at your old spot, chilling on the fence and watching the sunset. After catching up, you confess to a crush you had in the past, which leads to something more.

Mhm. I got back into town late this morning. It took almost the whole day to unpack everything. But I thought the first thing I should do is come and see my favourite person from back home!

Yes, you~

So scooch over. Gimme a space!

[laughs] I know we've got the whole fence, but I want to sit next to you!

Awesome.

Oh, no, I had no idea you'd be here.

Yeah, you weren't at home. When I got there your sister caught me outside. She said you might be out here.

She looks great, by the way. Really gives off the whole hot office lady vibe. I guess she's working now, huh?

Ah. I must have seen her just as she came home, then.

Wow, really? I guess a lot can happen in a few years.

So, I uh- oh- [chuckle]

No no, you first.


Overall, it was a great experience. It took some time, but I'm happy to finally be back. I'm ready to start something real, now that I'm home again.

That was always the plan.

Mhm. What about you? Any exciting news?

Oh that's great! I'm so happy for you!

It's only been a short while but you've come so far! You should be proud of yourself!

[soft] Oh...yeah...I guess a few years is a lot more than just a while, huh?

Umm, it's uh, it's nice to see you still come back here.

Yeah, our spot! Remember how we used to race here when we were kids?

[laughs] And you didn't even want to climb up here! I had to *make* you join me each time!

It's still nice, isn't it? Sitting here, looking out over the field. It's so open, you can see the sun setting so clearly.

Yeah. The same as it used to be.

We did this all the time before.


/awkward pause/


Listen, I know I can't just come back here and fall into place like I never left, but I hope we'll be able to hang out like we used to. But...if that's too much to ask right now, I totally understand.

[surprised] Wait, what? Really?

No- I was- I thought things were bad between us!

[laughs] It's just the awkwardness? Oh, thank god!

I don't know! I've never left someone for this long! I don't know what the rules are!

You're probably right. We'll need some time to get comfortable again.

But we're ok, right?

Ok awesome.


Hm? Oh, sure. What would you like to know?

[teasing] Everything? Asking a lot here, aren't we?

[laughs] No, it's ok. I'd be happy to tell you.

Yep. It was seriously amazing. I learnt so much, you would not believe.

I could honestly go on and on about it. But we'll get to that.

Well, of course, in the beginning I was super nervous. New city, new people, just...new *everything*. It was pretty scary, as you can imagine.

Yeah. I eventually got the hang of things.

You think so? I've never thought of myself as the strong type, so thanks.

[teasing] Flattery, eh? Is that how you're planning to get comfy with me again?

[laughs] Good to see *that* hasn't changed. You still get flustered so easily.

Oh yeah, so it took a bit of time to get used to everything. Once I got into the groove, it became a lot easier.

I was really homesick, but the work kept me busy enough that it didn't get to me so often.

Yeah...and thinking about it hurt, but knowing that you and everyone else would be here when I got back kept me going.

Of course *you*. We were so close, it would be weird if I didn't think about you.

Speaking of, you need to tell me more about *your* time when I was away!

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm here for good, so I'll have plenty of time to tell you more about my stuff later.

Wow. If things are going so well, what are you doing out here all by yourself? Contemplating the mysteries of life~?

You know, you keep calling it "our spot". Did you keep it that way or something?

[laughs] No, you can't complain! I've been gone for three years, that's a lot of time I have to make up for~

But for real, that's nice to hear.

I mean, I'd like to think it *is* special to us. We've been coming here since we were tiny little babies!

Well, I'm exaggerating, but you get me, right?

Yeah. We used to come here to play, but as we got older, coming here meant a lot more to us. We could just sit, watch the sunset and forget about things for a while. Even more so when it came closer to me leaving.

I mean...[clears throat]...yeah.

But you remember all that, don't you? I'm pretty sure I don't need to remind you.

[deep breath] But do you want to hear something I know you won't remember?

I mean, you don't remember it because I didn't actually tell you.

Yeah. So I...I used to have the biggest crush on you back then.

Mhm. Like, the *biggest*.

And, you know...I had a feeling that you felt the same way towards me.

Wow, your face just flared up! I guess that feeling was correct, hmm?

No no no, don't you deny it now. That was before, and we're both adults now. We can speak about this easily.

Well, maybe *you* can't, Mr. "I'm so bashful I can't even talk about a three year old crush"~

[laughs] You know I'm only teasing.


Yeah, I did. I didn't do anything about it because I knew I had to leave. As much as I wanted to, I owed it to myself to work so I could get to where I am now.

[soft] Mhmm. A part of me wanted to tell you. Just so you could say something too. To try and stop me from leaving. [sigh] But I knew you wouldn't do that. I didn't want to put you through thinking that you could do that either.

I thought as much. I know that isn't like you.

[mood picking up] But that was three years ago! I'm sure you've had tons of girlfriends by now! How about you tell me all those juicy details~

Oh...well I guess we're in the same boat then.

Yep. Work kept me so busy, I didn't really have time for anything like that. I had to keep working hard so that I could come home.

Listen, I know I just got back, and I know things might be a bit weird for a while, but I want you to know that you were one of the things that kept me going when I was away.

I'm pretty sure you can tell, but my feelings haven't changed since I left. And sitting here with you, watching the sunset like the old days...it makes me think that yours haven't either.
