doomed!Sora prequel

"You're a fucking idiot, Sora!"

"Yeah."

"What do you mean, 'yeah'?! Goddamnit, snap out of it!" Kris slapped Sora, hard. "What's Dani gonna think if she sees you like this?!"

"Don't you get it, Kris? Don't you GET IT?!" Sora went from lax to screaming, grabbing her by the scruff of her shirt. "I've run all the calculations, I've gone through all the possibilities, and the fact is that we! Are! Fucked!" He shook her with each punctuated word, until she shoved him away. He stumbled back, and looked to the side.

"So that's it? You're just gonna give up and go die?"

"You're not listening to me."

"I've heard enough!"

Sora looked back over at her, eyes blazing with determination. "You're not fucking /listening/ to me! I am not going to just give up and go die!"

"So what do you call saying your goodbyes like that, huh?!"

"I'm not gonna have a computer for a while if all this goes right."

"If."

"If it doesn't work, you won't have to worry about me screwing things up for you any more, will you?" Sora's voice was acerbic. Kris glared.

"Shut your whore mouth, Royale. That's out of line."

"Yeah, maybe. Look, I just can't help but feel responsible, okay?" Sora shrugged. "And that's why I'm going through with this. If it works, we'll have the power to get through this."

"You're crazy, Sora. You're seriously fucking nuts."

"You reckon? Good." Sora turned away and began walking towards his quest bed. "We're gonna need some of that if we're getting through this alive."

Kris ran up to him and grabbed him by the arm. "I'm not letting you do this. There's no proof it works."

"That's why I'm taking notes, girlfriend." Sora reached up, then, to stroke Kris's hair away from her face. The girl was taken aback, and it showed in her expression.

"I know it doesn't mean much to someone like you who sees all my fuckups - but I need you to trust me, just this once."

Before Kris could properly respond to his affectionate gestures and words, Sora equipped his war fan and clocked her across the temple with its blunt end. He caught her as she fell, and laid her down carefully on the ground.

"... sorry, Kris. But I can't let you stop me."

The Rogue of Life captchalogued his fans and made his way to the quest bed.
