  1. 17:48] Katrin leads the way up towards the higher levels of Starfall's rooms. A little office and, just behind it, a sparsely decorated, dimly lit workshop.

  3. Including a small cot in the corner.

  5. She starts her work as she does many other times by shrugging off her cloak and rummaging through a nearby chest. The artificer retrieves not only the arcanium, but several piles of bright, common elemental crystals.

  7. "As I recall. Ya wanted one of the five on each finger. And a lil' stud on each knuckle imprinted with a fist. Right?"
  8. (Katrin Weiss)

  11. [17:49] Haggis Valkrin says, "Tha' elemental crystals were supposed tae be inlaid on each finger o' tha' dragon's claw design Iffin I remember"
  12. [17:49] Katrin Weiss says, "S'right."
  13. [17:49] Katrin Weiss asks, "How ya 'bout ya take the ones here and start powderin' 'em. Think ya can do that?"
  14. [17:50] Haggis Valkrin says, "Uh..."
  15. [17:50] Haggis Valkrin asks, "Powderin'?"
  16. [17:53] Katrin Weiss says, "Yeah."
  17. [17:53] Katrin Weiss says, "Just beat the fuck outta' the crystals."
  18. [17:53] Haggis Valkrin says, "Aye I can do tha'"
  19. [17:53] Katrin Weiss says, "Make 'em into a powder. Gonna melt that powder down. Make it glassy."
  20. [17:53] Katrin Weiss says, "Good for the inlay."
  21. [17:56] Haggis begins punching the crystals in order to powder them. After just a few punches he realizes he's been pounding the crystals into the table, as the crystals were far harder than the table. After some work digging them out he sticks them between his knuckles and smashes his fists together, quickly crushing the crystals into a find powder that floats down onto the table below.

  23. "Sorry 'boot yer table." Haggis says in a small voice, unbecoming of him.

  27. [18:04] Katrin stares blankly as Haggis embeds crystals into her perfectly good work station. She sighs and shakes her head. As Haggis powders the crystals she works on rigging up a small tabletop magitech burner. A wire stand and a small stone bowl sit over a flame, which is adjusted with some knobs on its burnished steel side.

  29. "Don't worry 'bout it. S'just a table," she assures him dully. The first of the crystal piles goes in, the blue, and she raises the flame higher to melt down the crystal.

  31. "What ya been up to these days anyhow?"
  32. (Katrin Weiss)

  35. [18:07] Haggis thinks about the question. He felt like he's been incredibly busy, but at the same time can't think of a good answer.
  36.  
  37. "Well I trained ta' girl ye told me aboot. She seemed tae take tae tha' magic righ' quick, bu' I've no' seen 'er since so I dinnae ken how she's gettin' on. Other than tha' I've joined wi' some fellow drakenites an' made an' adventurin' party o' sorts. We call ourselves tha' Cringe Crusade, bu' we no' done much crusadin' yet."

  41. [18:11] "....The cringe crusade?" the artificer questions, incredulous. No, she either doesn't have the energy to hide it or simply doesn't bother on principle.

  43. At the same time she takes what looks like a little metal ladle of some tarnished, dark metal and dips it into the liquidized elemental crystals.
  44.  
  45. With a steady hand she uses it to fill in the designs that were left behind by last sessions scrimshaw.
  46.  
  47. Then all it takes is rinsing and repeating. Each variety of crystal. Each finger.

  49. "Well. It's somethin' then. Glad ya could do right by 'er. You take to worshippin' the Five yourself, by the way, or all this just for decoration?"
  50. (Katrin Weiss)

  53. [18:12] Haggis Valkrin says, "Decoration mostly."
  54. [18:12] Haggis Valkrin says, "Caliban talked aboot tha' whole business when I's bein' inducted."
  55. [18:13] Haggis Valkrin says, "But I figure summit's no' worth worshippin' iffin it doesnae seem tae do much in response ya ken."
  56. [18:16] "Nah, I get it. It's why I ain't the spiritual sort myself," she remarks. Once the first glove its finished its fingers are lain flat to let the crystals cool and harden back into place in the inlay. The second gets much the same treatment.

  58. And then, into the same apparatus with the stone bowl, Katrin places the arcanium.
  59.  
  60. "You ain't the spiritual sort either? Thought ya did all that woulda' been a requisite for doin' all that...holy mumbo jumbo."

  62. She didn't care for the holy magicks. She didn't care for the occultic either, really.
  63. (Katrin Weiss)

  66. [18:21] Haggis thinks back to his training with Markus and Agatha. They had both seemed spiritual, but neither of them had emphasized it during his training with them.

  68. "Well tha' way I understand it, holy magic reponds tae certain thin's within' yersel. Tha' desire tae protect is wha's mostly talked aboot, bu' wha' it's really aboot is hope an' love. Protection an' spirituality jus' tend tae follow those. As long as I dunnae have anythin' like hatred distractin' me, I dunnae 'ave a problem controllin' tha' magic."

  72. [18:25] "...Huh. Interestin'." Katrin might have actually learned something new, which was fine in her book. She took her knowledge and hoarded it away, much like her all her wealth and treasures large and small.
  73.  
  74. But it was no wonder she was never cut out for that sort of thing even before.
  75.  
  76. The metal in the stone bowl over the small burner isn't allowed to melt. Instead the arcanium is only gotten soft before it's taken out and manipulated manually with hammer and tong.
  77.  
  78. A piece is taken off, a little hunk, then it's pressed into a waiting mold and beaten to fill the shape. When it pops out it's a round little stud, indented with the design of a fist. At Haggis' express request.

  80. "Well. I hope you and your...'Crusaders' or what have ya end up doin' alright. Whatever ya do."
  81. (Katrin Weiss)

  84. [18:27] Haggis Valkrin asks, "Aye I appreciate tha'. Has yer... situation improved at all?"
  85. [18:27] Haggis Valkrin says, "It's fine iffin yer no' wantin tae talk aboot it."
  86. [18:27] Haggis Valkrin says, "Jus' figgured I'd ask."
  87. [18:31] Katrin frowns.
  88.  
  89. "...No. Not really."
  90.  
  91. Eight of the little arcanium disks are made, bright green and embossed with the fist sigil to give Haggis the fabled 'one-for-two' punch.

  93. Each of them is, using the little desktop flame burner, spot welded into place on the knuckles.
  94.  
  95. "But. Thhhiiis...Oughta' do your gauntlets. Just gotta' let 'em set a bit. Put some runes on 'em.
  96.  
  97. And soon as the magic's set. Ya will be sure to hear from me on 'em. Yeah?"

  101. [18:33] Haggis looks at the gauntlets with wonder. It already seemed like magic what Katrin was able to do with the raw materials he gave her.
  102.  
  103. "Aye they're lookin fookin amazin'. An' iffin I find any artefacts what might go well on 'em ye'll be able tae work them in righ?"
  104. (Haggis Valkrin)

  107. [18:34] Katrin Weiss says, "Mhmn."
  108. [18:34] Katrin Weiss says, "S'true."
  109. [18:34] Katrin Weiss says, "Whatever ya bring me. I can add 'em in."
  110. [18:34] Katrin Weiss says, "But once these settle. They oughta' do ya fine."
  111. [18:35] Katrin Weiss says, "Otherwise, these're just gonna be a real good set of gauntlets for the time bein'."
  112. [18:36] Haggis Valkrin says, "Aye thanks again. Be sure tae keep an ear oot fer wha' I'm goin' tae use 'em fer."
  113. [18:36] Katrin Weiss asks, "Oh?"
  114. [18:36] Katrin Weiss says, "And c'mon...I can take ya back out front."
  115. [18:37] Haggis Valkrin says, "Aye I'm goin' tae beat tha' snot outta all those cringe-arse fireblooded what've taken o'er."
  116. [18:37] Katrin Weiss says, "Oh, good."
  117. [18:37] Renfry says, "Hey Vish. Lets fight a round."
  118. [18:37] Syndris Valkrin asks, "Wait, whats happening Haggis?"
  119. [18:38] Katrin Weiss says, "I look forward to hearin' about that."
  120. [18:38] Vishous asks, "Uhm...?"
  121. [18:38] Haggis Valkrin says, "Finishin' touches on me gauntlets."
  122. [18:38] Syndris Valkrin asks, "Oh, how close are they to being done?"
  123. [18:38] Haggis Valkrin says, "An' me plans fer 'em."
  124. [18:38] Katrin Weiss says, "Just gotta' let the magic in 'em settle."
  125. [18:38] Katrin Weiss says, "Then he'll have a good base for future work. I'm sure of it."
