Eiji: ...Sure, that’s fine. You can take it from here.

キリコ
「エイジ、
またミッションディスクを作っているのか?」
Chirico: Making another Mission Disk, Eiji?

エイジ
「ああ、キリコさん。
お借りしたこのコンピューター、使い易くて
ついカスタマイズを…」
Eiji: Oh, Chirico. The computer you let me borrow is just so easy to use and customize...

エイジ
「音声入力でミッションディスクの
プログラミングが出来るなんて…
[SPT]に慣れている僕にも扱い易い」
Eiji: Hard to believe I can program the Mission Disk with just voice input... Even someone like me that’s more used to [SPTs] can use it easily.

キリコ
「だが、音声入力には時間が掛かる。
今からカスタマイズしても、
次の戦いには間に合わない」
Chirico: But using voice input takes time. If you try to customize it now, it won’t be ready in time for the next battle.

エイジ
「そうかも知れません…。
けど、あれから考えたんです」
Eiji: Maybe so... But I’ve been thinking about before.

エイジ
「覚悟が足りない僕が、
今、何をするべきなのか」
Eiji: About what I should be doing now, as someone that lacks resolve.

キリコ
「………」
Chirico: ...

エイジ
「キリコさんはいつも、
いつ死んでも構わない…
そんな風に戦ってるように見えます」
Eiji: Chirico, you always seem to be fighting like you don’t care if you die or not...

エイジ
「それは、覚悟が決まっているからなんですか?」
Eiji: Is that because of your own resolve?

キリコ
「いや、そうではない…」
Chirico: No, it’s not that...

キリコ
(説明したところで、こいつにはわかるまい…)
Chirico: (Even if I tried to explain, he wouldn’t understand it...)

キリコ
(あの惑星オドンの訓練基地…
サンサの地獄の戦場…)
Chirico (The training base on the planet Odon... The hellish battlefield of Sansa...)

キリコ
(タイバスの大河やガレアデ、モナドを転戦して…
俺が何を知り、何を見てきたのか…)
Chirico: (The Taibas River, Galeade, Monad... Fighting battle after battle... The things I’ve learned, the things I’ve seen...)

キリコ
(俺は死ぬことは出来ず、俺に同類はいない…)
Chirico: (That I am unable to die, that I am one of a kind...)

エイジ
「…キリコさん。僕には目的地へ行って、
やらなければならないことがあります」
Eiji: ...Chirico. I have to reach our destination, and do what I set out to do.

エイジ
「そのためにしなければならないことは…」
Eiji: And to do that, I have to—

(An alarm sounds off.)

エイジ
「[グラドス]の追撃隊!」
Eiji: A [Grados] pursuit unit!

キリコ
「これで3回目だ。
向こうはけりを付けるつもりかも知れん。
敵は俺が迎え撃つ。お前はキャリアを守れ」
Chirico: This is the third time. They probably plan to finish it this time. I’ll intercept them. You protect the carrier.

エイジ
「わかりました!」
Eiji: Got it!


第3話
『同類』
Episode 3
Two of a Kind


(Scene begins on a map screen of space. Eiji, Chirico, and the Tripod Carrier are on the map. Grados SPTs are on the other end of the map.)

エイジ
「また…実戦か…」
Eiji: A real battle... Again...

キリコ
「前回より数が少ないな」
Chirico: There’s not as many as last time.

(Chirico moves closer to the enemies.)

キリコ
「エイジ、お前はそこで支援に徹していろ」
Chirico: Eiji, stay where you are and provide support.

エイジ
「………」
Eiji: ...

(Battle 1 begins.)

(This line triggers when Eiji battles an enemy.)

エイジ
「覚悟が足りない僕に出来ること…それは!」
Eiji: I’m not ready for this... But I can still...!

(Battle 1 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

エイジ
「何とか凌いだか…!」
Eiji: We pulled through somehow...!

キリコ
「油断するな、エイジ。第二波が来るぞ」
Chirico: Don’t let your guard down, Eiji. The second wave is here.


(Scene ends.)

(Next scene picks up where it left off. More Grados SPTs are on the map.)


エイジ
「今度は二手から!」
Eiji: Here’s their second wave!

キリコ
「やはり、これで終わりにする気だな。
エイジ、いざとなったらキャリアで離脱しろ」
Chirico: I was right, they’re planning to end this here. If it comes down to it, Eiji, take the carrier and get out of here.

エイジ
「それじゃ、キリコさんが!」
Eiji: But then what about you!?

キリコ
「お前には目的地で
やらなければならないことがある」
Chirico: You have something you need to do at our destination.

キリコ
「ここで最優先すべきは、レイズナーの保全だ。
あれがグラドスに奪い返されたら、元も子もない」
Chirico: Our top priority is to protect the Layzner. If Grados gets it back, then all of this was for nothing.

エイジ
「しかし!」
Eiji: But still!

キリコ
「敵が来る。やるべきことをやれ。いいな?」
Chirico: The enemy’s coming. Do what you have to do. Understand?

エイジ
(だからって、
キリコさんを見捨てて行くわけには…!)
Eiji: (No matter what he says, I can’t just abandon Chirico...!)

(Battle 2 begins.)

(Battle 2 ends when 5 enemy units have been defeated. Even more Grados SPTs appear.)

エイジ
「まだ敵が来る!?」
Eiji: More enemies are here!?

キリコ
「この方角は…!」
Chirico: They’re going after...!

グラドス兵
「青い[AT]は急所を狙ってこない!
奴を集中攻撃するぞ!」
Grados Soldier: The blue [AT] won’t target vitals! Concentrate on it!

(The reinforcement SPTs surround and attack Eiji.)

エイジ
「うわあっ!!」
Eiji: Ugh!!

キリコ
「エイジ!」
Chirico: Eiji!

エイジ
「しまった、マシンガンをやられた!
ソリッドシューターも使えない!」
Eiji: Dammit, they got the machinegun! The Solid Shooter isn’t working either!

キリコ
「もういい、後は俺が引き受ける。
お前はキャリアで離脱しろ」
Chirico: It’s fine, I’ll handle the rest of them. You escape with the carrier.

エイジ
「………」
Eiji: ...

エイジ
「すみません、ここはお願いします!」
Eiji: I’m sorry, take care of things here!

(Eiji moves over to the Tripod Carrier.)

エイジ
「レイ!聞こえているな、レイ!」
Eiji: Rei! Rei, do you read me!?

レイ
「聞コエテイル、
アルバトロ・ナル・エイジ・アスカ」
Rei: I READ YOU, ALBATRO NULL EIJI ASUKA.

エイジ
「レイズナー搭載コンピューター・レイ!
お前は僕を専属パイロットとして認証したな?」
Eiji: Layzner’s onboard computer, Rei! Have you authenticated me as your exclusive pilot?

レイ
「認証	八完了シタ。
当機	ハアルバトロ・ナル・エイジ・アスカヲ
唯一ノ	専属パイロットトシテ	認メル」
Rei: AUTHENTICATION COMPLETE. ALBATRO NULL EIJI ASUKA IS NOW ACKNLOWEDGED AS THE SOLE EXCLUSIVE PILOT OF THIS MACHINE.

エイジ
「…よし、ミッションディスクのプログラミングは?」
Eiji: ...Alright, and what about the Mission Disk’s programming?

レイ
「完了シテイル。
[ギルガメス]形式ノ	物理メディアヘノ
出力モ	含メテ」
Rei: COMPLETE. INCLUDING OUTPUT TO PHYSICAL MEDIA IN [GILGAMESH] FORMAT.

エイジ
「火器管制については?」
Eiji: And the fire control?

レイ
「プログラミング済ミ。
動作テストモクリアーシテイル」
Rei: PROGRAMMING IS COMPLETE. OPERATION TESTS HAVE ALSO BEEN CLEARED.

エイジ
「よくやってくれた。
ハッチを開けて、例の物を出してくれ!」
Eiji: You did good. Open the hatch and give it to me!

レイ
「レディ!」
Rei: READY!

キリコ
「エイジ、何をしている?早く逃げろ」
Chirico: What are you doing, Eiji? Hurry and run.

エイジ
「いえ、僕にはまだここでやることがあります!」
Eiji: No, there’s still something I have to do here!

グラドス兵
「あのAT、何を持ち出している!?」
Grados Soldier: What the hell is that AT bringing out!?

エイジ
「まだ戦う術はあるんだ!」
Eiji: There’s still a way I can fight!

(Eiji files over to one of the Grados Soldiers and attacks with Lasered Rifle. A battle animation begins.)

エイジ
「今だ…!」
Eiji: Now...!

エイジ
「うおおっ!」
Eiji: Aaagh!

グラドス兵
「ぐうっ!機体の損傷が激しい!」
Grados Soldier: Dammit! My machine’s taken heavy damage!

(Battle animation ends. The Grados Soldier is left with a sliver of HP.)

エイジ
「これで下がってくれ!!」
Eiji: Now get the hell out of here!!

グラドス兵
「くっ、撤退だ!撤退するぞ!!」
Grados Soldier: Grr, retreat! We’re withdrawing!!

(All remaining Grados SPTs retreat.)

エイジ
「退いてくれたか…」
Eiji: They really retreated...

キリコ
「エイジ、その武装は…」
Chirico: Eiji, that weapon is...

エイジ
「まずはキャリアへ。戻ったら、説明します」
Eiji: First let’s get back to the carrier. I’ll explain once we’re back.

キリコ
「ATにレイズナーのライフルを使わせるとは、
驚いたな」
Chirico: I didn’t think that AT could use the Layzner’s rifle.

エイジ
「トリガーと指のサイズが合わないので、
信号直結で発砲を制御するようにしました」
Eiji: The AT’s finger and the trigger sizes didn’t really match up, so I had to use a direct signal link to control when it fired.

キリコ
「ミッションディスクには、
それをプログラミングしていたのか?」
Chirico: And that’s what you programmed the Mission Disk for?

エイジ
「ええ、その通りです」
Eiji: Yeah, exactly.

キリコ
「だが、どうやった?
一日やそこらで終わる作業とは思えないが…」
Chirico: But how? I would have imagined that’d take more than a day to do...

エイジ
「レイにやってもらったんです」
Eiji: I had Rei do it for me.

キリコ
「レイ…?」
Chirico: Rei...?

エイジ
「レイズナーの搭載コンピューターです。
ようやくプロテクトが外れて、僕を
専属パイロットとして認めてくれました」
Eiji: It’s the Layzner’s onboard computer. It finally lifted the protection once it recognized me as its exclusive pilot.

キリコ
「そうか、音声入力のプログラミングなら
対話式コンピューターの得意分野というわけか」
Chirico: I see. An interactive computer would excel at programming with voice input.

エイジ
「高速言語を使えば、
短時間でプログラミング出来ました」
Eiji: Since it was able to use high-speed communication, it completed the programming pretty fast.

エイジ
「この機体で…
僕は生き抜いて、使命を果たします」
Eiji: With this machine... I’ll survive, and complete my mission.

キリコ
「それが、お前の答えか」
Chirico: So that’s your answer.

エイジ
「ええ。僕は、敵の生命を奪う戦いは
出来ないかも知れない…でも、使命を
果たさずに倒れるわけにもいかない…」
Eiji: That’s right. I may not be able to take an enemy’s life in battle... But I can’t allow myself to go down either.

エイジ
「だから、技量を高めて、
生き抜く工夫を重ねていきます」
Eiji: So I’ll keep improving my skill, and find new ways to survive.

キリコ
「…レイズナーは使えるのか?」
Chirico: ...By using the Layzner?

エイジ
「ええ、まだ機体の整備が終わっていないので、
それさえ済めば…」
Eiji: Yeah. I’m still not done working on it yet, but even when I am...

エイジ
「でも、戦いによっては
これからもスコープドッグを
使わせてもらおうと思います」
Eiji: I think I’ll still use the Scopedog some, depending on the battle.

キリコ
「好きにするといい」
Chirico: That’s up to you.

エイジ
「これで僕もキリコさんの同類ですね」
Eiji: I guess this makes us two of a kind.

キリコ
「同類…?」
Chirico: Two of a kind?

エイジ
「ええ、底辺の存在……ボトムズ乗りの同類です」
Eiji: Yeah, another ‘lowest of the low’... We’re both Bottoms now.

キリコ
「………」
Chirico: ...

(Background changes to an outside view of the carrier.)

キリコ
(同類か…何やら奇妙な気分だ)
Chirico: (Two of a kind... The term gave me a strange feeling.)

キリコ
(だが、俺は言いようのない
不安のような物を感じていた…)
Chirico: (But, it also made me feel a sort of indescribable anxiety...)

キリコ
(同類…
一度はそう錯覚したバーコフ分隊の連中…)
Chirico: (That we’re the same kind... I once believed that about the members of Berkhoff’s team...)

キリコ
(あいつらのように、
また俺は“同類”を失うのではないか…)
Chirico: (Now I’m afraid that I’ll one day lose one of my “kind” again, as I did with them...)

キリコ
(そんな、漠然とした不安だった………)
Chirico: (It was such an indistinct feeling of anxiety...)

登場作品    装甲騎兵ボトムズ

アーマードトルーパーの略。
全高4メートル前後の人型機動兵器。
兵士たちの間では、搭乗者の生存率が非常に
低いことから、「最低の野郎ども」という意味を
揶揄して『ボトムズ』とも呼ばれる。

AT

From:       Armored Trooper VOTOMS

An abbreviation for Armored Trooper.
They are humanoid mobile weapon that are around 4 meters in height.
They are also called “Bottoms”, a derogatory term for the “lowest of the low” among soldiers, due to the extraordinarily low survival rate of their pilots.


ギルガメス

登場作品    装甲騎兵ボトムズ

ギルガメス星域の各国家、またはそこに所属する軍。
アストラギウス銀河を二分する勢力の片側であり、
キリコが所属していたメルキア方面軍も
ギルガメス陣営である。

Gilgamesh

From:       Armored Trooper VOTOMS

Refers all planets in the Gilgamesh region, or the army that belongs to it.
It is a force that controls one side of the Astragius Galaxy. The Melkia army, which Chirico was a part of, is also part of Gilgamesh.

パワードスーツの発展型としてグラドス星で
開発された機動兵器。

They are mobile weapons developed on the planet Glados as a successor of the Power Suit.
