Then he shot another arrow which landed in its ear and gave it as much pain as the first one. And the archer, who meant to get in a third shot against the beast, took aim still one more time.

  5. The oak the young man was standing behind was broad and huge. He did not worry about the panther because the great oak protected him from being seen by the beast. All this puzzled and confounded the beast, who could not understand what it was that was fighting against it so hard and had even managed to wound it in the brain.
