  3. No less unique was the vision of Matsutaro Shoriki, the founder of NTV. Determined to lift the spirits of a nation that was left in ruins following the devastation of World War II, Shoriki hit upon a novel idea to bring hope to the hearts of his countrymen, and that was television. Obtaining the first-ever broadcast license in Japan, Shoriki literally brought television to the streets of Japan by setting up television sets on 42 different street corners located in Tokyo and the surrounding areas. Then, on August 28, 1953 at 11:20 AM, as thousands of Japanese crowded together in the streets before these primitive TV sets, Japan's first television broadcast began with the simple words: "This is JOAX-TV, Nippon Television". From global news coverage to new technology development, event sponsorship and charity fundraising, NTV is the embodiment of a passion to create and inspire, to challenge and excel. And it is this passion that has made us Japan's most popular commercial broadcaster.
