  1. Here's some tips:
  2.
  3. * Don't be too concerned about picking a starting class, they're not much actually anything other than specific small starting stat and/or free item bonuses upon starting out so you're not locked to a specific build or style if you pick a specific class, i.e picking a miner or ranger class means you don't have to stay restricted to a mining or explosive build or a ranged build, you can work on builds for ranged or warlock too, etc!
  4.
  5. * Experiment with cooking pot results: mix crops, meat and fish from fishing and as a tip, two good early to mid-game foods are bomb peppers + heartberries for general exploration and larva meat + marbled meat for good boss buff foods and when you hit azeos, bloat oat + dodo eggs is a great high-healing buff food and mixing puffungi/golden puffungi with a strong fish is also a strong combo especially with omega3's perk
  6.
  7. * Once you get a small stock of resources going, bring a salvage table along on your trips from your base; both to repair your gear on the go and to save inventory space in a way by breaking down equipment into stackable items
  8.
  9. * If you're navigation minded, use torches and a surplus of blocks to light up areas and close off sections you've explored unless you want to keep them open in order to lessen confusion on later trips
  10.
  11. * Use pouches to manage your inventory, higher backpacks will give you more slots iirc and you can buy a pouch making table from the bearded merchant to make medium pouches for fish/valuables/crops/ores and blocks and get large ones as rewards from various bosses or breakable objects later
  12.
  13. * In your inventory UI, you have three swapable equipment sets, you can use this to store and switch equipment sets so you can use this to save inventory space on multiple sets of gear such as a spare set of magic gear with a melee set; all three set slots share slots for backpack, pet and lanterns
  14.
  15. * Crafting stations will use items in any nearby chests up to 10 tiles away, you can press Q to quickstack items into matching chests if they have matching stacks, this is useful to declutter your inventory on return trips
  16.
  17. * You don't need to keep different tiered workbenches and anvils, you can just keep the highest tier you can access at the moment and use its up and down UI arrows on the left to switch tiers
  18.
  19. * If you can manage to trap a shroom brute (the big charging fellas with rock like shells), you can use their high damage resistance to train combat skills for a good while and get some free levels out of it, its less effective mid-game but you can gain several combat skill levels this way early on since they have HP around 500 and a bit more, low damage and high attack speed weapons work better for this since xp is granted per hit
  20.
  21. * It may be worthwhile to make outpost-like bases for each new major biome (clay caves, forgotten ruins and the three post wall biomes) and connect them via rail network and portals later on, if making rail networks, you may want to clear out slime/fungal soil in the planned path and make the railway path secure with stone walls or better and plenty of light
  22.
  23. * The fastest mid to end-game way to get ore is to make crude or normal drills to mine the ore boulders, a good setup is here:

  25. (just pretend the ore boulder is still there and theres a wire under the conveyor belt one block south of the lever block)
  26.
  27. * It may be worthwhile to gather wood (preferably via a drill wood farm, look up Dakon's guides on youtube) to level crafting to 100 via crafting around 10-15k wood platforms, because they offer an end-game perk to make polished jewelry from the jewelry craft tables, and even the early ones from the first table remain viable to end-game if they come out as polished versions
  28.
  29. * Fishing is a worthwhile way to get some free items, ore and more espcially with the autofish mod, you could leave your character fishing with the autofish mod afk while at work or sleeping and then salvage/sell the items but you also get fishing buff gear via this method and some of the best food combos are fish and crops so you may want to also level fishing to 100 via afking for several hours to utilize the omega3 skill for bonus damage on bosses
  30.
  31. * Gardening is also worthwhile to power level to 75-100 or so, an end-game skill gives you a chance to grow golden variants of crops, which are much stronger than their normal variants
  32.
  33.
  35.
  36. * Stone walls are sufficient enough to delay or stop the giant grub mobs in the clay caves from digging around your base or even into it, it makes a suitable base-wall material for both the clay caves and forgotten ruins, you may want to make your base walls 2-3 blocks thick though if you make an outpost in the clay caves to delay cavelings from mining into your base, better options for cavelings doing this is to setup wood or spike traps to kill them or to make a chasm or moat of water around your base using a shovel and/or bucket
  37.
  38. * Best way to beat Glurch from my experience is to bring speed-buffing food made from bomb peppers or to wear the raincoat two-piece set or the two grub larva accessory set (the larva ring and necklace) or the slime immunity fish from clay caves cooked into a fish food combo, bring buff potions suited to your build, healing potions and since leading Glurch away to an arena won't work as he'll go back to his rune, its best to fight him there, dodge his attacks and just repeatedly smack him when you have an opening
  39.
  40. * Other than repeatedly damaging Ghorm with strong attacks like a musket until he's 75% HP or lower (as he will not engage you until then), the best strat is to either setup 300 wood spikes in his path, 150 tin spikes, this will lower him to critical health then you can just dodge his figure-eight movement and attack him when he passes near you or if you wanna one shot him, detonate 60 dynamite packs or 30 explosive deposits with wires and a lever in his path directly when he passes by you
  41.
  42. * Once you beat Glurch and/or Ghorm later, make rooms for the merchants and save the ancient coins from selling items such as valuables and spare equipment (if you don't want to salvage it instead), you'll need ancient coins along with various metal bars to upgrade equipment later on using an upgrade table
