- Are you playing on an emulator?
- - No. I'm playing on a DS with a capture board installed.
- What's your goal time?
- - 3:41 or lower.
- Manipless? What's that mean?
- - Just means this run does not manipulate RNG, so my starter / wild Pokemon will a random nature, as well as random IVs.
- What do the letter grades next to the split name mean?
- - The letters classify how "good" a given split was in my PB. A+ means it's hard to save time on the split, conversely a split graded D would be easy to save time on.
- What is the world record for this category?
- - https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnhgssext?h=Manipless_Glitchless-ENG-DS3DS
- Why do you set the date to 1/1?
- - To avoid getting hail on Red.
- What Pokemon do you use?
- - Cyndaquil for Falkner and Bugsy, Kenya (a gift Spearow) for Whitney and Morty, and then a level 50 Magikarp for the rest of the game. I also catch a Sentret for Surf, Cut, and Whirlpool, as well as a Snorlax to teach Rock Climb and to assist on the Red fight.
- How do you get Magikarp?
- - By leading Fearow and putting up a Repel before Route 43, I'm able to avoid any and all encounters below level 29 - leaving the level 50 Magikarp as the only possible encounter. Magikarp itself is a 1% encounter, so you'll see me doing a lot of turnframes to attempt to encounter it. On average, Magikarp will take about 70 seconds to encounter.
- What are the hardest fights in the run?
- - For Cyndaquil/Quilava, Bugsy and Falkner. Gyarados doesn't struggle with many fights, aside from Red.
- What are the largest reset points?
- - Too many encounters before Violet City
- - Not encountering Magikarp, or getting a Magikarp with very bad stats
- What are the stat/nature requirements for Cyndaquil?
- - 9+ defense with a nature that isn't -atk or -spatk.
