- Alright, ready to start?
- smallgreenantToday at 8:15 PM
- Ready as I'll ever be.
- YonnimerToday at 8:15 PM
- Alright, do you need any refresher on mod powers? I got a copypaste of most of them.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:16 PM
- I have read through the previous interview pastebins that have them in there. I have an outside looking in understanding of them that should be sufficient for this interview.
- If I misunderstanding anything, please don't hesitate to correct me.
- YonnimerToday at 8:17 PM
- Alright, minor thing. The situational questions will be asked as if you are a full mod, so you can permaban bois.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:17 PM
- Understood.
- YonnimerToday at 8:17 PM
- that's the only on server difference I belive.
- First question, while observing a round, you see someone spawn in with the name “Gaylord”, you’re the only non afk staff at the time, what would you do?
- smallgreenantToday at 8:21 PM
- If playing that round, I'll excuse myself in LOOC and adminghost the individual whilst doing my best to acquire any relevant information regarding the account's previous notes, warnings, bans, playtime, ckey, etc. I will put a priority on adminpming them as the name is not merely a non-believable name, but an inexcusable and offensive one. My PM will inform them their name is unacceptable in our community's rules and request that they return to a cryo-genic area to address the name immediately.
- YonnimerToday at 8:24 PM
- If they went to cryo, you'd try to give them a respawn, yeah?
- smallgreenantToday at 8:25 PM
- That was my understanding of one of the options available to me. I'm not entirely sure how to go about it within Byond, but if possible, I will give them the opportunity to address the name via respawning as an acceptable and believable character that fits within our guidelines.
- YonnimerToday at 8:26 PM
- ok, mods can't actually give respawns, only admins can.
- so, usually you coud ping a admin to get on to give one, or just have them rename them outright if the guy gives a name they want.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:27 PM
- Understood, as stated however, I am the only one available in this scenario with limited powers so we can proceed that way if you'd like.
- YonnimerToday at 8:28 PM
- Well, lets say when you bwoink them, they don't respond, even after a few minutes. What would you do?:
- smallgreenantToday at 8:32 PM
- I would wind the player and attempt to illicit a response again by reiterating that our server is driven by heavy role play and restating their name violates the spirit of the server as well as being offensive. I would also provide them a link to our rules and request they respond by clinking my name or pressing F1 and offering a response.
- YonnimerToday at 8:32 PM
- They don't respond, and after a minute, disconnect. They have no other notes, and their account is 0 days old, if it needs to be said.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:33 PM
- As a moderator, do I have the ability to apply any punishment to the account related to the ckey upon disconnect?
- YonnimerToday at 8:34 PM
- Yes, as long as they have a body, you should be able to note/warn/ban.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:36 PM
- I would apply a permanent ban to the account outlining the offensive nature of the name as well as the lack of cooperation. Within the ban notification I would provide a link to both our community's rules as well as a link to the correct forum thread to appeal the permanency of the ban before returning.(edited)
- YonnimerToday at 8:37 PM
- Alright. That should be all for this question, any questions before the next?
- smallgreenantToday at 8:37 PM
- I don't believe so!
- YonnimerToday at 8:38 PM
- Second question, you notice in chat a set of logs of a guy stabbing himself in the eyes, at least over 5 times, what do you do?
- minor thing, you can ask a question before saying what you would do, like their notes and such.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:39 PM
- Ah, okay. Do they have any note, warnings, bans, and do I have knowledge of their role within the current round?
- YonnimerToday at 8:40 PM
- They are a chef. Their account is 5 days old, only two notes are a note about having a improper name, and going SSD for longer then acceptable, both 5 days old.
- you can check someone's role through the player panel with their ckey, if it needs to be said.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:41 PM
- Understood. I would adminghost and adminping the individual politely asking if they have a moment to answer a few questions.
- YonnimerToday at 8:41 PM
- They continue to stab themself without answering.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:42 PM
- Is he near anyone else?
- YonnimerToday at 8:42 PM
- No, just in the kitchen, alone.
- smallgreenantToday at 8:45 PM
- Hmm... without anyone else to provide context to the situation I am inclined to wind the individual however their behavior is self-harming in nature... Actually, with no one around for this to interrupt the flow of play, I wind the individual momentarily and reaffirm my request to communicate.
- YonnimerToday at 8:46 PM
- They respond with "yes?"
- smallgreenantToday at 8:47 PM
- I politely request for them to provide their character's motivation for causing themselves such harm.(edited)
- YonnimerToday at 8:47 PM
- They respond with "i want to die i dont like this role"
- smallgreenantToday at 8:49 PM
- I explain that unfortunately their behavior isn't character motivated and their actions affect the crew at large which I cannot allow. Before dealing with that issue, I relay to them that I see they are new to the community and ask them what other roles they have played and what their interests are.
- Furthermore, I would see if there is an admin available for a possible solution depending on their response.
- YonnimerToday at 8:54 PM
- There's another admin on, and a mod, they respond with "i dont know to have fun?"
- smallgreenantToday at 8:58 PM
- I would explain that there are plenty of fun roles within the Aurora Station and relate that I understand it can be difficult to not know what you enjoy without first trying it. I would explain however that simply killing yourself is not an acceptable response to this predicament, nor will it provide the desired result. I would inform them there are typically in character solutions to most problems and if they do not know what they are, to be encouraged to ahelp or ask in OOC. I would recommend that for this round they visit the Head of Personnel and explain they desire a career change, recommending they try an assistant role to sort of test drive each department.
- YonnimerToday at 8:59 PM
- They respond with "ok"
- smallgreenantToday at 9:02 PM
- I would provide them with the IC name of the HoP and explain they are receiving a note on their account regarding self-harm and believable character motivated actions with some additional notes to staff about this new player trying to find a fun role. I would provide them with a link to our rules and encourage them to join our Discord to make ties within the community seeing as how they are new, and to help gather insight on various roles from mentors. I would request a rejuvenation from an admin and release them to continue play as instructed.
- YonnimerToday at 9:03 PM
- Alright, that should be all for this question, any questions before the next?
- smallgreenantToday at 9:04 PM
- I think I am good with this one... phew.
- Will we go over advice at the end or some other time in relation to these?
- YonnimerToday at 9:05 PM
- As in, if they were handled properly in the way they were explained?
- smallgreenantToday at 9:05 PM
- Yes.
- YonnimerToday at 9:06 PM
- Usually we don't in the interview, unless we're correcting with a perm issue or something.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:06 PM
- Understood.
- YonnimerToday at 9:06 PM
- so, if you describe something you couldn't do.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:06 PM
- All good then!
- YonnimerToday at 9:07 PM
- Alright. Third question, you see two players fighting, one with punches, one with disarms. Although it evolves into one hitting the other with a pocketknife, , neither of them are antags, and jumping to them shows it happened at the surface toolstorage room, what do you do?(edited)
- i'm gonna
- change that from crowbar to pocket knife, since crowbars are weak
- smallgreenantToday at 9:10 PM
- What information can I be provided about the two individuals account history, notes, warnings, bans, etc.?
- YonnimerToday at 9:11 PM
- The one with the knife has been on for four months now, a few notes and warning, but nothing related to this. The other is a 2 day account with no notes.
- Minor thing, the one with the knife was the one disarming, the other only punched.(edited)
- smallgreenantToday at 9:12 PM
- Any one else around observing the altercation before I answer?
- YonnimerToday at 9:13 PM
- None of the other staff online react, although there is a admin on(you can see if a staff is afk or not as a mod, the admin isn't). No actual players are near the fight
- smallgreenantToday at 9:19 PM
- I have winded in the two scenarios thus far due to lack of communication. In this instance I am tempted to interrupt but I have no context on the situation and could be stopping an acceptable escalation negatively impacting their rounds. I adminghost for a few more moments, adminpining the player who is both using deadly force and has greater longevity first. I politely ask them to respond.
- YonnimerToday at 9:21 PM
- little bit confused, you do or not wind them?
- smallgreenantToday at 9:22 PM
- I do not. I want to avoid interrupting something that is reasonable but also want more context given the nature of the attacks and location. My suspicion being the newer player has somehow annoyed the older player over items commonly gathered from there.(edited)
- YonnimerToday at 9:24 PM
- alright, the other play is already on the ground by the time you finish sending the adminhelp, the one who was stabbing them respond saying they kept punching them, and wouldn't stop after they tried to disarm and walk away, so they stabbed them a few times.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:26 PM
- I request them to clarify if the fight was completely unprovoked while adminpinging and politely opening a dialogue with the downed player, requesting them to explain the altercation as well as reasoning behind it being as unaccusatory as possible.
- YonnimerToday at 9:27 PM
- The player who stabbed them responses saying they did it wordlesly, the other player responds with "they had a lighter out to a fueltank, i tried to stop them"
- smallgreenantToday at 9:29 PM
- Am I able to see inventories? Also, are logs available to confirm or disprove the allegation of the attempted fuel tank lighting?
- YonnimerToday at 9:30 PM
- You can check bag to logs before the fight by scrolling up, there is no log about a attempted welderbomb, and you can see inventories through VV, but it's a bit janky.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:32 PM
- Given the lack of logs and unreliability of the inventory view, I directly ask the older player if they were at all intending to welderbomb or if they possess a lighter or other object that might have given that impression. I also double check the older player's previous warnings specifically for self-antag or incidents similar to the alleged behavior by the newer player.
- YonnimerToday at 9:34 PM
- The older play is playing a engineer, so they'd have a toolbelt with a welder. The only note that could be related would be one about validhunting as a doctor, rest are just a note and warning about SSDing, and a note about netspeak
- smallgreenantToday at 9:37 PM
- Understood, I ask the older player to politely hold on and continue with the newer player. I inform them there are no logs regarding an attempted weldingbomb and that they deny the allegation. I encourage them to be honest regarding the interaction so that I don't make any mistakes in resolving the incident.(edited)
- YonnimerToday at 9:38 PM
- they respond with "they had a lighter over the weldertank, is not them about to welderbomb it?"
- if you have any questions about a mechanic you don't know, feel free to ask.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:42 PM
- I think I have it correct but there is a local announcement and sound regarding the welderbomb action as well a build up for all within range
- correct?
- I'm trying to think back to the last time I saw someone do it and I'm unsure on the local announcement for others that someone is trying to light it.
- I know it appears for the character attempting to.
- I can proceed without the information any way.
- YonnimerToday at 9:44 PM
- You get a log, and if a person is nearby, there is a thing for it i think
- smallgreenantToday at 9:44 PM
- Alright, well given that I am unsure I don't want to incorrectly inform the person.
- And before I paste that back, the role of the newer account was?
- YonnimerToday at 9:46 PM
- chef
- smallgreenantToday at 9:46 PM
- Thank you.
- I explain to the newer player that our server code does not instantly detonate the welder tanks as it might elsewhere and actually provides a specific sound. I will transparently tell them that I believe there is a text notification as well and will look up that information for them to confirm. I will however press on that that regardless, they are not a security officer or cadet that would typically intervene through violence over something like that. I would level with them that they appear to be a new player and give them the benefit of the doubt that they thought their intentions were righteous, but overall discourage them from doing unbelievable actions like that in future until they are more familiar with out server and the character they are trying to build. I will provide them a link to our rules, specifically calling attention to self-antagging and invite them to our Discord to hopefully encourage them to find roots within the community and explain that they will have a note applied to their account regarding this interaction and what we discussed.
- As for the older player, I will explain the position of the newer account and their perspective but politely suggest they are somewhat at fault for their actions after the initial altercation by introducing lethal force into the affray. I will stress that while they were provoked, it is not typically a reasonable response to introduce a level of force that would, in real life setting that we attempt to emulate, possibly lead to death. I would encourage them to do their best to create distance and defend themselves with more reasonable means while attempting to contact security for assistance, or if they prefer, ahelping the situation when possible. I will inform them I am applying a note about that advice and this altercation, and additionally request they seek out this new player should they join our Discord and foster a relationship to encourage a strengthened and informed player base.
- The round would then proceed and they would both be instructed that their actions carry the consequences decided by the in character player security moving forward, including the unreasonable force, with encouragement to role play their defenses to the other members.
- YonnimerToday at 9:58 PM
- They both respond with basicly "ok". That should be all for this question.
- smallgreenantToday at 9:58 PM
- Sorry for the wall of text. I tend to ramble lol.
- Yeah, there could not be more...
- YonnimerToday at 9:58 PM
- Any other question/notes before the next and final situation question?
- smallgreenantToday at 9:58 PM
- No.
- YonnimerToday at 9:58 PM
- Forth question, It’s a voted merc round, lowpop. You get a ahelp from the only other staff on saying that a QM just wiped out their merc team right as they entered the station., as they were one of the mercs. You jump to see that three of the mercs are dead, and one lives, and is running. The QM has a assault shotgun, combat belt, and tactical armor. What would you do?
- for the sake of this, lets assume all three of those can be orderd if they can not actually be orderd, it mightve been changed
- smallgreenantToday at 10:01 PM
- Understood. I adminghost the QM, I gather any notes, warnings, bans, etc. regarding them and in AOOC request the remaining Merc member to not re-engage as I investigate the situation. I adminping the QM politely requesting them to respond to some questions.
- I additionally clarify with a separate, non-staff member of the Merc team privately to provide their version of the altercation with the QM.
- YonnimerToday at 10:03 PM
- Looking at their notes, you see a note and warning for situations in the past were they orderd weapons for invalid reasons, but nothing about metagaming. Only other note is a SSD one, They respond in the PM with "After I make sure it's safe, sure".
- And the other merc says the same thing, they were planning on going to cargo after hearing the QM say there was a combat mech in cargo, and first thing thath append when they walked in was the QM jumped out of the lockers and opend fire.
- mercs can hear alll channels with their radiom if it needs to be said
- smallgreenantToday at 10:05 PM
- The age of the warnings regarding ordering weapons? I inform the QM to trust me, it is safe, that I have had the hostilities cease and request they focus on giving me their version of the events.
- YonnimerToday at 10:08 PM
- The note was from a month and a half ago, the warning about two weeks. The QM says they found the items in the warehouse, and when they heard there were hostiles on the surface, decided to ambush them with the cargo message to protect cargonia.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:11 PM
- Can I check the order history to confirm or disprove the story about a combat shotgun being "found"? I request them to clarify how they came to know about the hostilities on the surface. During this time I also AOOC ask the Merc team if they had been previously discovered as they would be hyper-aware of that as they can see all channels.
- YonnimerToday at 10:14 PM
- I don't believe you can yourself, but there is another cargo technician, the other admin who is the merc says in modsay "Those don't' spawn in the warehouse, the shitter likely ordered them". The QM replies with " someone said there were redsuited people on the surface". The mercs say they don't' think so, but weren't paying attention after the QM said in the cargo channel about the combat mech.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:16 PM
- I adminping the cargo technician and politely request if they have a moment, if they do, I request what orders have been completed.
- YonnimerToday at 10:17 PM
- They say there was a order for all the stuff the QM had, plus some ammo and pizza.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:19 PM
- I thank them and return to the conversation with the QM. I inform them that I was able to disprove their story regarding finding the weapons and confirm they were in fact ordered and ask them to please explain.
- YonnimerToday at 10:19 PM
- They respond saying they found the money to order it in the warehouse via a briefcase filled with 10000 dollans, and orderd it to protect cargo in case.
- lets uh, assume that it would've been enough to order all that, not sure if it actually is
- smallgreenantToday at 10:27 PM
- Sure, I relay to them that they have previous notes and warnings they have acknowledge for similar behavior and reinforce that in combination with their initial dishonesty indicate to me that they are fully aware that ordering weapons via their position to arm themselves is against our community rules. I would provide them with a link to the rule section regardless and reiterate their has clearly abused their position in an unreasonable fashion multiple times to gain an unfair advantage to thwart antag situations and and is therefore receiving a one week job ban from the QM position for meta-gaming. I would provide them with a link to the unban thread to appeal my judgement and encourage them to ahelp in the future before committing to an action that is even remotely akin to this incident as they enjoy other roles.
- YonnimerToday at 10:29 PM
- They respond with "How the fuck is this fair? Why wouldn't a QM protect cargo from threats? It's their job?"
- smallgreenantToday at 10:34 PM
- I would explain that the QM has unabridged access to a team of trained security professionals that can coordinate response efforts and that they are denying those players the ability to enjoy that chosen role by taking it upon themselves to defend their department. I would reiterate that in their own statement they planned to ambush a team of unknown hostiles. This is unreasonable behavior not only for the position but also for a human being that values their lives and the lives of their staff. I would again encourage them to have a spirited debate about the issue on our forums where the previous incidents could also bring weight to reversing or reinforcing the situation today.
- I would then attempt to provide the Mercenary team with a rejuvenation if admin staff were available. If there is no other way to restore the flow of the round due to lack of moderator ability, I would inform them AOOCly and allow the remaining Merc to continue as best they could.
- YonnimerToday at 10:34 PM
- The QM responds with "Fine, i'll just make a staff complaint".
- Unless you want to respond with something, that should be all.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:35 PM
- I would simply apply the aforementioned judgement, no need to drag it on further.
- YonnimerToday at 10:35 PM
- Alright. Anything further to add/any questions before the next set?
- smallgreenantToday at 10:36 PM
- No.
- YonnimerToday at 10:36 PM
- Rest of the questions will be more personal questions, less about situations like this.
- Alright, should be almost done with the interview, just a few of these.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:36 PM
- Understood, fire away.
- YonnimerToday at 10:36 PM
- If you could change one thing in staff team, what would it be?
- smallgreenantToday at 10:39 PM
- Hmm... I would like to see a bit more accessibility, though I may live to regret that should I actually spend a moment in their shoes. At the moment there appears a fairly clear amount of transparency with the way the forums are structured and inviting, I think perhaps it just might be beneficial to have a more outreaching type of behavior especially from the moderator team to foster lasting community ties with players and leave no question unanswered.
- YonnimerToday at 10:40 PM
- my grammar is totally on point today
- Alright. Next question
- smallgreenantToday at 10:40 PM
- you're killing it don't worry
- YonnimerToday at 10:40 PM
- o you feel anything may effect your trial you're worried about? Or any concerns as a mod, really?
- *Do you feel, rather
- smallgreenantToday at 10:45 PM
- I don't presume to be a flawless individual and especially of note there have been concerns voiced on my application regarding volatile reactions to situations. To that I would simply say that, one does not walk into the forest and accuse the trees of being off-center. Or rather, this community belongs to the community. I leave an opportunity being extended to me to the judgement of those it would most affect.
- I will do the best I can to adhere to the standard required of me but should that affirmation here not be convincing enough, I'll still be on the Discord shelling out sprites and memes.
- YonnimerToday at 10:47 PM
- Alright.
- Last thing, anything you'd want to say about possible past behavior that might be a concern to some players/staff?
- This can be for both on the actual server and discord.
- and forums i guess
- smallgreenantToday at 10:49 PM
- I'm not entirely sure. Are you referring to anything in particular?
- YonnimerToday at 10:51 PM
- Just, any past behavior you think someone may have a concern with.
- So, the comment on your mod app about it, for instance.
- smallgreenantToday at 10:57 PM
- I feel I provided a cogent response to the comment there towards that individual, additionally I reach out to a lot of people individually to either build relationships or repair them, including in that instance. I am confident I can perform this task we discuss today without issue, however as I stated before, this as much my community as it is everyone else's. I respect and invite anyone's critique of any role I seek that may affect them. Furthermore, should I find myself in a position to be making a decision that would affect someone that may take issue with me residing over it, real or perceived, I have the foresight to remove myself from that situation to avoid my judgement being called into question.(edited)
- For anyone else that has made it this far in reading this...
- I learned a powerful bit of truth long ago: Apologies and excuses are the most worthless things you can offer, those pleased with you won't need them, those sore at you won't listen to them. The best thing you can do is be forthright and treat everyone as you would treat yourself.
- That's all I got, boss.
- Anything, not on script you'd like to know?
- YonnimerToday at 11:02 PM
- Alright. Anything else you wanna add/say before the final, most important question?
- smallgreenantToday at 11:03 PM
- Yonnimer, my friend, I have talked way too much; no.(edited)
- YonnimerToday at 11:03 PM
- do you care if this is posted on your app? Or just want to keep it private between staff?
- smallgreenantToday at 11:03 PM
- Post away.
