- IF A 101% LOTAD WAS MADE NOW, WHAT TIME WOULD IT GET?
- ----
- The 101% LOTAD was made in early 2015, when emulation was very poor in comparison to what it is today. In order to clear up some of these elements of poor emulation (notably graphical spiking and bone displacement), certain measures had to be put in place at times (putting filters on the game or cutting game audio). These measures inevitably took time away from optimising actual gameplay, so there is undoubtedly a couple minutes that can be saved just on optimisation.
- That being said, some time was saved from the fix to correct graphical spiking back when the original 101% LOTAD was made (which was to cut the audio, which reduces lag). Whilst a figure for how much you'd lose to increased accuracy isn't entirely known, the estimate is 1-2 minutes.
- In 2017, Spawn Snagging was introduced, which allows us to collect several GBs earlier than intended, skipping many long puzzles. These include:
- - Skipping the first round of Arcade. This saves 2 minutes
- - Skipping both Rabbit Races. This saves 5 minutes
- - Skipping the R&D Puzzles in Factory (excl. Car Race). This saves 5 minutes
- - Skipping the Fungi & Caves BBlasts. This saves a minute, although would mean some coloured banana rerouting would be necessary
- - Skipping the Helm minigames. If you skip the first 8 minigames (doing Diddy's games normally to shut down the BoM), this should save a minute.
- - Skipping the Cannon Minigame in Galleon saves 30s.
- Also in 2017, the ability to phase walk was also introduced. In a similar way to Swim Through Vertical walls, you can walk through walls as long as the kong is oriented a certain way and the wall is oriented a certain way. This not only replaces a lot of orange clips (since phase walking is sometimes faster than orange clipping), but also introduces some clips in other areas we couldn't clip previously (eg. Minigames). This could save a minute or two on it's own.
- On top of this, since some orange clips are being removed, this allows for orange clips in other areas, more dance skips and better routing (since routing doesn't need to be *as* revolved around fairy usage). This could save a minute or two as well.
- Just after the 101% LOTAD was released, a way to skip the Caves Beetle Race was found with an orangstand clip near the first door. This saves 1 minute.
- Other minor optimisations that have been discovered in the past 3 years (Other spawn snags, other clips out of bounds that's faster than phasewalking or oclipping, Faster Aztec Beetle Race skip, Orangstand TBS noclip usage, better routing) should save a further 3 minutes or so.
- The 101% LOTAD time was a 4:42. Taking into account those timesaves, in order:
- - Higher optimisation due to less time spent on graphical spike reduction. 2 minutes (4:40)
- - Losing time due to no graphical spiking fix (Not cutting out audio). 1-2 minutes (4:41-4:42)
- - Arcade Round 1 Skip. 2 minutes (4:39-4:40)
- - Rabbit Race Skip. 5 minutes (4:34-4:35)
- - R&D Skips. 5 minutes (4:29-4:30)
- - Fungi/Caves BBlast Skips. 1 minute (4:28-4:29)
- - Helm Minigames skips. 1 minute (4:27-4:28)
- - Phase Walking. 1-2 minutes (4:25-4:27)
- - More intensive orange usage. 1-2 minutes (4:23-4:26)
- - Caves Beetle Race Skip. 1 minute (4:22-4:25)
- - Other optimisations. 3 minutes (4:21-4:24)
- - Cannon Game Skip. 30 seconds. (4:20:30-4:23:30)
- These figures aren't 100% accurate, and obviously a definite time is yet to be confirmed as a 2nd 101% LOTAD is not in the works as of yet, but a high 4:1x/low-mid 4:2x is likely where it's going to be.
