44. The giant, man-eating Graboids are back and even deadlier than before, terrorizing the inhabitants of a South African wildlife reserve as they attack from below-and above.
 45. I have this strange fixation on the Tremors franchise, probably one that's unhealthy. Regardless, the original film is easily in my top 5 and I could ramble for eons about its hidden genius. Its sequel, Tremors 2: Aftershocks, is surprisingly very good for a home media release, and it probably sits in my top 50 favorite films. Tremors 3 and 4 aren't as near as good as the first two and have a ton of problems, but they still have a certain charm to them: cool effects, funny dialog, great action, and Burt Gummer, who is an unsung B-movie badass hero. I've been awaiting a 5th film for years, and I figured it wouldn't happen...

...until I read an article in early 2015, stating Tremors 5 had gone into surprise filming in South Africa. My heart pounded out of my chest, my trembling hands nearly dropped my phone. I was a 1st grader (about 7 years old) when Tremors 4 came out, and now I was about to enter college. Was this film finally happening, with Michael Gross and all? I thought it was too good to be true, maybe a hoax or joke article. Sure enough, it's real, and so is my excitement.

Then I see the director: Don Michael Paul, one of the cheapest, laziest, and overall worst modern film directors currently working. Maybe he's a nice guy, seems like it, but he is one of the worst directors I can think of. My heart stopped pounding. The guy who directed celebrated classics like Who's Your Caddy? and Jarhead 2 is now directing one of my bucket list sequels.

Months past and I finally saw it after it came out. I read a lot of reviews saying it was rather good, including my local paper that called it "by far the best Tremors sequel...almost as good as the original" and after just 30 seconds of watching the film I could tell you that those claims are very misguided.

So much is wrong with this train wreck. First, the monster designs are completely different. I actually think they are pretty cool, but this is not a remake or a reboot, and none of the characters seem to notice anything different. Why change the designs of the monsters in a sequel, thus breaking continuity? It'd be like if they made Gremlins 3, but the gremlins are now pink, furry, and have eight legs, and then the characters never asked why they looked different. Failed comedian Jaimie Kennedy plays Burt Gummer's sidekick, though I feel as if his role were originally written for Pauly Shore or Rob Schneider. He's about as irritating as you'd think: memes, pop culture references, shouting and overreacting about everything, completely stupid and makes situations worse, extremely annoying and pointless. The nail in the cross is, not surprisingly, the terrible direction. The film is so flat and uninteresting, with NO cool angles or engaging shots. The film could've been much, much better had the director known anything about making a cool-looking movie, or had he even cared (which I'm assuming he didn't). Everything is so unremarkable, like they just pointed the camera from the most static and basic angle and pressed record. How do people like this even get work, where idealistic college graduates are scooping gum off of diner tables just to make a living? There is only one scene in this entire film where the directing is slightly interesting, and it's like another person took over.

It's a sickening world to know this film could've been much better had only a few things been changed. I think what made the other films work, even Tremors 3 which is not a good movie, is that the people who made them cared about Tremors. Don Michael Paul and his crew clearly do not care about Tremors in the slightest, as Paul even said in the commentary track that he had never seen a Tremors film until Michael Gross forced him to watch the original after filming had been completed. What a hack, and what a terrible film.

Also, the film has some sort of fixation on pee. Gummer drinks pee, a character wets his pants, a girl mentions having to pee, a dude pees on a rock, a guy dies while peeing, and a lion pees on Gummer's face. Do the writers have a urine fetish? If so, maybe they should explore that and stay away from the Tremors franchise.
 46. Tremors 5: Bloodlines (English) 6.5/10 Genre: Adventure/Action Director: Don Michael Paul Cast: Michael Gross, Jamie Kennedy, Natalie Becker Year: 2015

This movie certainly is a victim of bad marketing and promotion and will undoubtedly be one of the most underrated films of 2015 and honestly I never knew that there will be a fifth coming out from the Tremors franchise. This also happens to be the second film this year after Jurassic World which took me back to my childhood when I used to love these monster movies but surprisingly I felt this was better than Jurassic World considering the fact that it was probably made on one tenth of Jurassic World's budget, no theatrical release and above all I had no expectation from this film and watched it just for fun, turns out it's more than just fun. The special effects and creature effects were as good as any high budget film and since this one is just a direct-to-DVD B-grade film it somehow was the best as compared to other films made on low budget. The story this time moves to South Africa where Burt Gummer is back hunting down Graboids with the help of his unknown Son. Don Michael Paul who has directed quite a few B-grade films probably did his best job as director in regards to B-grade films. Acting was not bad if not brilliant which is pretty understandable for a film like this with Michael Gross reprising his role as Gummer for the fifth time and the only actor to appear in all the Tremors films along with Jamie Kennedy performing supporting duties as his son. The action, stunt and creature effects were pretty cool and the reason why I loved it so much. If you are fan of the Tremors franchise then you cannot afford to miss this one which might surprise you as well.

 48. Monster hunter Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), who now has his own survival series, and his obnoxious new cameraman Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) travel to South Africa on the invitation of Erick Van Wyk (Daniel Janks) from the South African Wildlife Ministry. It seems that an ass-blaster has been sighted, and where there are ass-blasters, there are also man-eating graboids. And in Africa, everything is bigger. Tremors 5: Bloodlines is the fifth movie in the Tremors series, preceded by Tremors (1990) (1990), Tremors II: Aftershocks (1996) (1996), Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001) (2001), and Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004) (2004). It is actually a sequel to Tremors 3 (Tremors 4 being a prequel to them all). The story and screenplay were written by William Truesmith, M.A. Deuce, John Whelpley, and C.J. Strebor. Graboids are the giant underground creatures introduced in Tremors, variously referred to as "worms" or "slugs". They are blind and use sound vibrations to locate their prey. At some point in their development, they morph into "shriekers" (introduced in Tremors II), so named because of the shrieking sound they make. Shriekers have legs and can move around above ground. They locate their prey by detecting heat signatures through sensors that rise out of the tops of their heads. In this second stage, they are able to reproduce hermaphroditically after eating, giving birth to more shriekers. They undergo a third metamorphosis when they start turning into flying ass-blasters, so named because their bodies are filled with flammable gas that ignites when they pass it, using the blast to give them liftoff. It is the ass-blasters that lay the eggs that hatch into baby graboids, thus starting the cycle all over again. In Tremors II, it is established that graboids are Precambrian life forms, meaning that they have been here for about 500 million years, and Tremors 4 shows that their eggs can lay dormant in the ground until disturbed. However, Precambian lifeforms were only one-celled organisms, so the possibility remains that they may have either come to Earth from space or evolved to their present size from one-celled organisms. Whatever the case, they made their first appearance in Nevada when four graboid eggs were washed out of a mine by a warm spring, and Burt's ancestor, mine-owner Hiram Gummer, arrived from Philadelphia to investigate the problem. Nandi (Pearl Thusi) suggests that they use the lightning from the daily afternoon sun shower to electrify the ground, thus forcing the "queen bitch" to the surface (like Amahle (Nolitha Zulu) was doing with the worms at the beginning of the film). Travis uses a motocycle to lure the queen graboid away, while Nandi places the last remaining graboid egg on a pedestal next to a tall lightning rod. All goes as planned the storm erupts, lightning strikes the rod, the ground becomes electrified, and the queen is forced to the surface where Burt, Nandi, and Baruti (Rea Rangaka) stand waiting to kill it. Two more lightning strikes succeed in killing the graboid and destroying the egg. While the villagers celebrate by cooking and eating graboid meat, Burt and Travis say goodbye to each other...until Burt reminds his son of his promise to build the Gummer brand. "You don't need fixing, Pops," Travis replies. Under his breath, Burt mumbles, "Pops!" A mid-credits scene shows that Travis and Burt now work together in a reality show where they kill monsters around the globe. 497e39180f
