  1. After feeling around for her equipment, she hopped out of the wagon, stretching out her limbs as much as possible while a few men came to the back and began to unload it. All around her, the Louiseville settlement didn’t seem like much at all like the place where rumors of riches originated from; Huddled together in one part was a collection of a few dozen tents of varying sizes and conditions, a few men scattered among them, chatting with each other or simply dozing off. Not too far away was an outdoor setup of several tables and chairs, outside of a small collection of wagons, where the men with boxes were heading towards. There, even more men were talking amongst each other, slowly eating some foods in front of them or drinking what she could only assume to be some type of alcohol or water. Strewn about, there were a few other wagons where more men with unique necklaces, gemstones, and curios in hand negotiating among jewelers, merchants, collectors and professors. The sun had already begun it’s descent in the distance, where the vegetation abruptly gave way to desert. She slowly walked into the outdoor tavern, eyeing around. She notices a few of the men around eying her as well, whispering and smiling to one another.
  2. “Hey lady, aren’t you going to set up your tent first?”
  3. She whirled around to see a rather burly looking man who bore quite a few scars on his arms.
  4. “Not yet, at least. Perhaps you would like to let me know where the ruins are?”
  5. The man let out a chuckle.
  6. “Please, I want you to take a seat over here. We have quite a bit to go over first.”
  7. She huffed, and took a seat across from the man.
  8. “You see, I usually help out the newbies, give advice and do whatever I need to do to make sure we all don‘t get killed too quickly. You‘re moving a bit too quickly forward for something like this.”
  9. “Please, I’m more than prepared for this. I really doubt a few bugs in some ruins can really do much to me.”
  10. Durrus let out a hearty laugh.
  11. “Ah yes, I assume you’ll shoot at them with that fancy musket of yours? I hope you do realize that the noise that thing will cause will bring every single creature in the ruins to your position. It’s also not a very good idea to go in there alone. It’s fairly dark, and pretty easy to get jumped from behind by something.”
  12. “How about you just clear up everything since you know OH so much?”
  13. “Gladly. First, name please?”
  14. “Cleo of the Naha’ja Kingdom.”
  15. “Pleased to meet ya Cleo. I’m Durrus, and everything you trained for isn’t exactly going to work out here as well as you think it will. I’ve seen a few other who thought just like you and ended up being Scarab food. But I don’t wanna see that happen to you. and I can offer my services and join you for your first excursion. All I ask is half of any treasure we find down there. Does that sound fine?”
  16. She stared at him for a few moments.
  17. “Fine.”
  18. “That’s the spirit! Now then, set up your tent, and I’ll be over once I’m ready. Also, leave that musket of yours back as well, I would hate for that thing to misfire or something.”
  19.
  20. Cleo sat in her tent, sharpening her kilij while counting the seconds pass by in her head. She popped her head outside the entrance looking around; The stars were already showing, and only a few other men were returning to their tents. She came back in, sheathed her sword, and lied down. It was still awfully quiet out, save for the sound of the aforementioned men walking back, a bit of chatter, the sounds of another wagon in the distance, but nobody approaching. She sighed, wondering if she should probably just head off to the ruins already. She lied there for a few moments longer until she finally heard an awful lot of clanking heading her way. She lept to her feet and came outside to the sight of Durrus head to toe in plate armor, wielding a scutum and gladius.
