My second love of the generation! Glimmora has many things that makes it interesting.

First its 2 abilities are both amazing. Toxic Debris set a layer of Toxic Spikes whenever you're hit by a physical move and even in dying. It's thus so easy to stack hazards and sometimes force a poison. Corrosion is also an excellent ability because you're able to poison Steel and Poison mon making Toxic really hard to switch-in.

About movepool now, things are also excellent. Glimmora gets 2 special moves offering the defensively great Fairy or Steel type while taking advantage of its high SpA stat: Dazzling Gleam and Flash Cannon. Another interesting move that fits pretty well with a defensive role and pairs well with both Steel and Fairy types is Spiky Shield. Thanks to this move, you can run [IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Steel.png[/IMG][IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Grass.png[/IMG] and [IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Fairy.png[/IMG][IMG]https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Grass.png[/IMG] both great great defensive typing somehow replicating last generation:ferrothorn:Ferrothorn and:clefable:Clefable.
With those typings, Corrosion is even better because you're able to threat both Poison or Steel mon and not let them use you as setup fodder.
Corrosion is also working with another Glimmora's great and signature move: Mortal Spin. Mortal Spin works similarly to Rapid Spin in removing hazards from your field but instead of boosting your speed, it poisons the opposing mon. Still insufficient as hazards control because Steels are immune. With Corossion you can however poison Poison mon making the move effective against setter like :clodsire: Clodsire.

Finally it also gets Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock making it a potent hazard setter!

On the downside, Glimmora's bulk is really mid and relies a lot on resisting hits to not take too much damages. It also doesn't have any recovery (Lefto + Spiky Shield is okay-ish however) meaning any damage should be considered.


As we saw, this mon has many tools to shine being able to run great defensive typing while not being passive at all with many things to make progress! Will certainly establish itself as a great mon in the metagame.

So you're saying: "What the f*ck Altaria is doing there with vanilla typing as one of the best option??". Yeah I know how you feel and that's indeed a strange proposal to highlight a mon known as bad and unranked last generations. So, what changed?

ALTARIA GETS WILL-O-WISP!!!

This addition really changes the mon. Indeed, with really low attacking base stats, Altaria was so passive and setup fodder for everything making it a really bad mon. Now, WoW makes it threatening for any physical sweeper/breaker and prevents physical setup. It's also a way to cancel Leftovers recovery on mon like Ting-Lu, Glimmora, Wo-Chien, Toedscruel, etc which is great.

However, the cotton bird is not only better thanks to WoW; the metagame also changed. Many mon lost Defog but not Altaria. With Corviknight, it is therefore one of the rare and viable Defogger in the current metagame thanks to recovery! For instance, mon such as Salamence, Dragonite, Hydreigon, Rotom-W lost Defog while some other good Defoggers last gen like Latias, Landorus-Therian or Zapdos got dexited.

Altaria also has the chance to get a cool ability allowing it to be a great status absorber something valuable with some Poison mon gone without Toxic or Blissey's viability drop.

Unfortunately this mon's bulk is not that great and 8pp on Roost can be pressured so easily. Do not think this mon can replace a same typing Salamence because the difference in physical bulk is like the difference between [USER=432798]Clementine[/USER] and me in terms of height, immense.


Will Altaria finally be decent or more? Only the time and the metagame developments that will follow can answer this question. However, Altaria really has the tools to find a place in this metagame!
