Reasoning:

 Following the series of events, Gamma had taken it upon himself to gather further resources in order to push his body to new limits. With the aid of his creator, he had managed to complete his upgrades to the point in which he has become essentially limited in terms of raw combat power. Even so, he came to understand that he indeed fell short of many other individuals, such as Archei, Eva, and plenty of warriors from Skyfall. However, it isn't until the death of Eva in which he comes to understand that he has truly been left on his own. With his scientist slain, he could no longer process or streamline updates to his systems, along with the core fact that the loss had shaken the numb mind encased within a metal body.

 With the cause being perceived as the likes of vampires, he acquires purpose and intends to make the necessary preparations to allow him to combat the threats that had crushed him with ease previously. With the remnants of Eva's technological center, he'll seek to make his preparations there.

 With Gamma casting away its mentality of becoming more human, he embraces the machine that laid beneath the false skin. Unveiling it before the world, he proudly marks himself as what he truly is. Only himself and three others dared to stand before the city and defend it, standing alongside Ringo and Lark in an effort to make a statement to the wave of corruption that is Mercy and her lackeys. Even so, he is defeated by the likes of Yue Liang, under the threat of being re-programmed, were it not for Ringo bailing him out. Fast-forward to a brief interlude, and he soon stands before a massive Nippy Frostbyte, who proceeds to stomp him into the ground without so much as a contest. Even Charlotte Stark, a mere child, is able to engage against the Changeling far longer than Zero was capable of.

 With his upgrades essentially maxed out, there is very little room to grow, at this point in time. As a being that's spent hundreds of thousands of resources to be placed into making him a weaponized being to destroy corruption, it's mind-numbing to realize that a mere child has the capacity to be a greater fighter. The lack of a 'techie' has also hurt Gamma heavily, despite obtaining a purpose, along with acting upon such.
