Her father is from Canada and moved to Korea after meeting her mother while studying abroad so Jiyeon grew up learning both cultures and languages. She has a younger sister who she practically raised since her parents were always away working, but when they were home, they often went out and did fun stuff like hiking and going to parks. One day while out getting dinner for herself and her sister, she was scouted by SM. She laughed as she imagined herself as a star since she was a big tomboy, but after persuasion from her family, she tried out as a singer, but sadly, didnt get in because of her lack of skills. Due to her competitiveness, she decided her goal was to get into SM. Many months later, she tried out as a model and got in this time, but soon changed her course to become an actress.
