  1. [I]Polsaker>oh well
  2. [I]Polsaker>let me tell you about how AWESOME mysql is!
  3. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>I'
  4. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>m all ears!
  5. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>HOW AWESOME IS IT?!?!
  6. [I]Polsaker>Inocent little Polsaker once opened the mysql console, wanting to change the character set of his tables
  7. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>why does this story sound familiar so far
  8. [I]Polsaker>he carefully typed the commands
  9. [I]Polsaker>but as he typed the last command he noticed some errors were popping up
  10. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>Cannot change column 'client_id': used in a foreign key constraint 'grant_ibfk_1'
  11. [I]Polsaker>"well, I just have to repair the table", he innocently thought
  12. [I]Polsaker>but as he tried to repair the table, he noticed that the table did not exist anymore
  13. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>wft?
  14. [I]Polsaker>for his nightmares came true and the whole database got corrupted
  15. [I]Polsaker>"well, gotta restore from the backups then"
  16. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>insert dramatic music here
  17. [I]Polsaker>But as little Polsaker tried to recreated the tables he shockingly saw yet another error!
  18. [I]Polsaker>"Table sub_post already exists"
  19. [I]Polsaker>"Well, I guess I have to remove it first"
  20. [I]Polsaker>but as he issued the DROP TABLE sub_post command he was met by yet another error!
  21. [I]Polsaker>"Table sub_post does not exist"
  22. [I]Polsaker>It was then when Polsaker realized that not only was his database corrupted, but it was also haunted!
  23. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>I'm assuming this has a happy ending
  24. [I]Polsaker>Pancking, little Polsaker tried to wipe the whole database to re-create it again
  25. [I]Polsaker>as he was typing he was receiving thousands of pings on IRC from people wondering why the fuck was Phuks down
  26. [I]Polsaker>but no matter how many times he tried to drop and re-create the table or even the whole database
  27. [I]Polsaker>the ghost sub_post table kept haunting him
  28. PM_ME_YOUR_BOOBS2>reboot vps?
  29. [I]Polsaker>After praying to the gods and searching over every corner of the Internet
  30. [I]Polsaker>after heavily tampering with mysql Polsaker resorted to directly delete the database files
  31. [I]Polsaker>and so he successfuly exterminated the haunted soul of the sub_post table
  32. [I]Polsaker>"But I only wanted to change the character set!" he said as he laid crying on the ground, exhausted after half an hour of battling
  33. [I]Polsaker>"If I restore the database from a backup it will still have the old character set!"
  34. [I]Polsaker>and then, a light shone from the skies and the clouds parted. The flying spaghetti monster heard his prayers and enlightened him
  35. [I]Polsaker>"Just change the character set directly on the sql dump file and restore that"
  36. [I]pembo>>aka he got super lucky he made a backup
  37. [I]Polsaker>And so Phuks came back online and InnocentBystander could post comments with weird emojis
  38. [I]Polsaker>The End.
  39.
  40. [I]Polsaker>morale of the story: don't fuck with mysql character sets
