- Apocalypse Rising 2 Ban Statistics For March 2023
- • at least 1,991 bans were issued by moderators (64.23 per day), an increase of 310.52% from February.
- • at least 5,884 bans were issued by our anti-cheat systems (189.81 per day), a decrease of 47.95% from February.
- If you wish to report players for exploiting, please join discord.gg/dpi and use the #ar2-moderation channel after you verify.
- Holy moly that's a mod bans increase compared to last month. What happened? More mods or new cheats not yet picked up by anticheat?
- Haven't played in a little while so I'm out of the loop rn.
- Moderator applications that opened in January concluded with the promotion of 14 new mods in March. Much of the increase is attributable to those mods.
- But, even prior to those promotions, early signs suggested March was going to have relatively high moderator ban numbers. It's probable the new mods just greatly amplified that effect we were observing.
- sadly bans can easily be avaded
- I'm assuming the decrease from february was because of the massive false ban wave that happened on feb. 4th? It's great seeing an overall improvement, but dear god is it still not even close to enough.
- The false bans issued were from a new system that was implemented recently. The old systems were still in tact and banning people during the period you describe. We didn't count any bans from the new system, and the new system didn't interfere with the old system, so that's not the reason there was a decline.
- We had some issues with our internal logging services that do partially explain the drop in bans. It's worth remembering that the displayed counts are minimums, not "totals". This means that if uncertainty rises (say, an issue with our logging services), margin of error rises, the minimum falls, even if the total remains unchanged. This is a limitation of the resources available to gathering these numbers that may change someday. We report minimums because it's the most transparent way to convey the information we have access to.
- Still, even with the fall, March is actually not the worst post-Free To Play month on record. For reference, here are all of the months since public launch:
- Notice that October 22 and November 22 both reported lower minimum ban counts than March 23. Also notice there is a strong correlation between player count and ban count, as evidenced by the spike in July which evened out over time. So, it's possible a declining player count may explain some of the drop in March.
- There may just be a certain level of variability we should expect on a month-to-month basis with these sorts of numbers that might explain some of the drop, too.
- Hackers and Apoc 2
- I am just wondering how you will stop hackers and Apoc 2, will there be firewall type things?
- and it's exploiters not hackers
- They're cheaters. Not exploiters, not hackers. Cheaters. They are using a third party tool made by someone else, and most likely possess no knowledge of actual hacking themselves.
- Exploiter = Someone using a bug within the game to gain unfair advantage
- Cheater = A person using paid/free third party software to gain unfair advantage
- Hacker = The guy who makes the software for the cheaters to use.
- The only way to fix Apoc's disaster of code and prevent hackers is to completely rewrite it.That's what is happening with AR2, but that'll take some time. There is no way to fix AR1 at this point.
- because they aren't wasting time on the current AR because of AR2 and it's almost, if not impossible to patch with in game scripts at this point, and even if they do, LS will just be the main thing again but with much more. With the new AR2 framework, hopefully the exploits will be patched, mostly. hopefully forever. Just think of it like this, Time added to AR1 = Time subtracted from developing AR2
- The only reason AR1 is such a hacked mess is because of how messy and easy-to-hack the code is. It apparently is very simple to hack, and very hard to patch because any change to the code likely breaks about 10 different aspects of the game.In AR2, the code will be clean, efficient, and secure. This means that hackers will have to work REALLY hard to get in, but that their hacks can be patched and made unusable in like an hour of work from Gus.So in short, we don't have much to worry about
