Background:
Soyeon was born in Seoul and has lived there her whole life. When she was around 6 years old, she developed an interest in sports, and by the age of 12, she was playing soccer, badminton, basketball and baseball. When she turned 13, she saw SHINee on TV and after that, she made up her mind to become an idol in the same company as them, so she taught herself to sing, and along the way she picked up rapping too. She also joined a dance class where she learnt countless dance styles like hip hop, freestyle, modern, ballet, jazz, etc.

She auditioned for many companies and got offers from JYP, YG, Starship, CUBE and many others. She chose Starship, But was disappointed that SM didn’t accept her. Then, after being in Starship from age 14 to 16, she quit because it didn’t seem like she would debut soon and went back to sports. She represented Korea internationally in badminton and soccer. However, after a couple years, she tried SM again. This time she was accepted and has been training under them since then.
