  2.
  3. >Camila shoves her hand down my pocket and empties it of change
  4. >she stands up and runs back inside the convince store
  5. >I get up and feel around, all she took was the change left over from buying $16.50 in gas
  6. >everything else was still there
  7. >I see her shove my money at the cashier
  8. >he quickly reaches down into his pocket in a panic and pulls out a bag with a small amount of pills in it
  9. >Camilia snatches the bag from him, takes one of the pills, and runs back out of the store
  10. >she gets back into her Dodge Charger and chirps the tires as she quickly exits the gas station
  11. >I'm left confused by what had just happened
  12. >decided to pick up the bags she left behind and head over to my car
  13. >I walked back to the car and sat the groceries in Eric's lap while removing the nozzle from the gas tank
  14. >"What the hell was that Anon?" my brother asked while looking through the bags
  15. >I walked around to the other side of the car and got back inside
  16. "I'm not sure. Her manticore friend stabbed her with a barb. I thought it would be the end but she just took my money and used it to buy pills off the cashier."
  17. >even I wonder how I made it out of that without having my pants ripped off
  18. >I started the car back up and left the gas station
  19. >I didn't want to wait around for such a long night to get any stranger
  20. >also had a paper to finish that was due tomorrow morning
  21.
  22. >the streets were lonely on the way home
  23. >nobody was really up that late this time of night
  24. >as if all the lights lit up the road just for me
  25. >late night television does a good job of keeping people home
  26. >Eric was about as silent as I was for the ride home
  27. >we listened to the hum of the engine and the surface of the road play their tunes
  28. >after a few miles of nothing, I left the main road and turned into the road that would eventually lead home
  29. >coming home was a sight to see though
  30. >several cars, all from people we knew in the order, were parked outside
  31. >"Just... Keep driving. Get back on the main road. I think I know where we can hide," says Eric
  32. >I coast by as if I didn't live there, but a lookout on the outside pointed out my car for everyone in the building
  33. >soon enough, my rear view mirror was populated by headlights as I left the area
  34. "They're following us. Where are we going Eric?"
  35. >he took his sweet time to think about what to say
  36. >I floored it as I got back on the main road, the rear tires spinning a little on the way out
  37.
  38. >it took them a while to catch up, but they were back on my tail once again
  39. >while I didn't want to get a speeding ticket from the night shift cop, I didn't want to stop for the order either
  40. >if they were following us, it was bad enough already
  41. >"Just keep going, we're going to the far east side by the lake," says Eric
  42. >far east
  43. >the lake specifically
  44. >quite literally a ghetto full of mamono
  45. >he probably thought it would be safe to hide out with that hellhound that sent him to the hospital
  46. >the lights in the mirror edge along even closer to us
  47. >I push the pedal further to pull away from them
  48. >not much I could do except drive faster
  49. >and faster
  50. >each curve in the road, while fine going at normal speeds, made the land-barge suspension heave the car to the left and right
  51. >there was a tap on my rear bumper from the car behind, absolute mad men
  52. >I decided that cops were the least of my concern for the night, and sped off
  53. >the car behind wouldn't fall behind so easily though
  54.
  55. >to anyone outside of the car, it was plainly obvious we were in the east side
  56. >to us, the chase was still on
  57. >the corner up ahead was rather sharp
  58. >I would have to slow down if I wanted to take it
  59. >as I stepped on the breaks, I noticed the car behind me had gotten to the left of me
  60. >as I turned, he turned in the opposite direction, slamming his bumper into the side of my car
  61. >I braced myself as my car lost traction
  62. >their car, however, kept going straight at the same speed
  63. >my car slammed into an overpass bridge pole before spinning around, blowing my tires right against a curb, and my door into a light pole
  64. >my vision faded to dark as an airbag blew up in front of me
  65. >I wasn't sure what was going on
  66. >all I could hear was an engine struggling to run
  67. >and more crashing in the distance
  68. >I could smell gas, and other fluids leaking out of the car
  69. >all why a throbbing pain aggressively pulled me out of consciousness
  70.
  71. >the sound of metal twisting and glass shards falling brought me back to reality
  72. >out of the windshield sat a familiar Dodge Charger with the hazard lights on
  73. >my body was lifted out of the car by my shoulders through the side window
  74. >I looked at my car as my heels dragged along the ground
  75. >the trunk was wide open, and the wheelchair was gone
  76. >Eric was gone
  77. >and my car was totaled
  78. >I get tossed into the seat of the Dodge Charger
  79. >out of the window, I can see a guard rail white a large hole torn into it
  80. >behind it was a sharp drop-off into a drainage ditch
  81. >the car suddenly started moving forwards
  82. >I turned my head to see myself alone with Camila in the car
  83. >no friends in the back seat, no Eric either
  84. "What's going on?" I asked
  85. >Camila kept driving east for a little bit before answering
  86. >"I don't know. What happened to you Anon?" she asked
  87. >I looked out the mirror to see if we were being followed by anyone
  88. >nothing was in sight except for my car
  89. "Well, my brother and I were being chased by the order. He just got out of the hospital and told them something that made them pretty upset."
  90.
  91. >"I see now," she said
  92. >"Word spread around about your bother Eric Anon. I'm sure she went out to find him the moment you two entered the east side. We can smell you from miles away."
  93. >I turned my head to look at Camila in disbelief
  94. >the moment our eyes met, she quickly looked away
  95. >"Sorry, did that sound too weird Anon?", she asked
  96. >I sighed, not really quite sure what to answer
  97. >there was an awkward silence as she continued heading east
  98. "Thank you," was all I could say
  99. >out of the corner of my eye, I could see a small orange flicker coming out of the corner of her eye
  100. >she couldn't seem to speak
  101. "What was all of that back at the gas station?" I asked
  102. >she hesitated before answering, "My friends played a prank on me when they saw you. They knew about my crush on you so they-"
  103. "Your what?" I asked
  104. >flames shot out of her eyes as she placed her paw over her mouth to cover it up
  105.
  106.
  107. >she turned off the main road and before too long, we we wound up in a parking lot for a public boat ramp
  108. >Camila was pretty strong too, she was able to lift me out of the seat and move me to the back with her arms
  109. >before I know it, she's hovering above me, breathing heavily and looking down at me
  110. >"You want to know the truth?" she asked, her eyes flaming out
  111. >the truth was plainly obvious with all the fire coming out of her eyes
  112. >but was I ready for it?
  113. >ever since I did that project with her, I've always had Camila as an exception
  114. >after all, she was from Argentina and behaved very differently from the other monsters
  115. >I never hated her like I did for everyone else, I would even go as far as considering her more human than monster
  116. >yet here she is, and I could still appreciate her for who she is despite not being a human
  117. >the order did have its use back in the day, but now, I think it is time to let go
  118. >before Camila could say anything, I leaned up and kissed her
  119.
