  1. “Right, yeah. Turns out we weren’t allowed to do whatever we wanted when forging Hermes’ ability- we could only enable him to do things he’d already done. Fortunately, when he mentioned he’d micromanaged an entire fleet of ships with pinpoint precision, it gave me an idea.”
  2.
  3. “You’re… gonna turn us into ships?” Danny asked, far beyond confused at this point.
  4.
  5. Raising a finger again, Bisky began to talk.
  6.
  7. “Four!” said Gon quickly. Hermes repeated it, albeit a moment later.
  8.
  9. “Not exactly, but you’re on the right track. The Nen ability couldn’t do anything Hermes couldn’t do to begin with. Hermes could always manage that well, so all we needed to do… was enable it.” She gave Hermes a significant look and nodded. Clamping his eyes shut, Hermes worked to focus his Nen, and he began to shimmer with a white aura that seemed a bit wobbly and uncertain, unlike Gon’s steady, even aura.
  10.
  11. “Whoa,” said Danny.
  12.
  13. The aura collapsed almost immediately, and Hermes sighed and fixed Danny with an annoyed glare. “Could you not do that? I’m trying to focus.”
  14.
  15. “Sorry.”
  16.
  17. Once he had gotten his focus back, Hermes’ breathing slowed and his Ten seemed much more stable. He stayed that way for some time, with everyone watching in rapt silence, even if Bisky was less awed and more intensely annoyed. Eventually, he had focused enough to activate his Hatsu, and the air rippled as something materialized in front of him. It was crafted of his own mind, created entirely from Nen, and it was…
  18.
  19. “Is that… a form?”
  20.
  21. Breathing a little heavily, Hermes nodded. “Please sign below.”
  22.
  23. Danny looked at his team and shrugged. Granted, it fit Hermes like a glove, but still… he had expected something a little more… flashy. “Form FA-HxH-26456-B? Requisition for… mind meld?”
  24.
  25. Hermes shrugged. “Legal terms can be a bit weird sometimes.”
  26.
  27. “Can you… like, sum this up for me?”
  28.
  29. Hermes nodded. “Basically, by signing here you’re opting-in to my ability, allowing me to network your mind with my own and other minds on the network in a unified gestalt.”
  30.
  31. “That doesn’t sound creepy at all.”
  32.
  33. “Normally I would never say this, but just shut up and sign it. I’m not going to leave you a gibbering wreck- what do I look like, the IRS?”
  34.
  35. Hermes chuckled, while the rest of the team shared awkward glances and Bisky outright groaned. “Two weeks. Two long weeks.”
  36.
  37. Gon and Danny signed without pomp and circumstance, and Panty even convinced Hermes to let her sign, but the portly Jamaican stopped Yellow when she was about to sign. “Yellow, there’s something I need to explain first. Before you sign, I want you to know that… my mind acts as the hub for all of this. I can read your memories, and you can read mine. If we go through with this, you’ll know what happened in round 5. It’s… gruesome. But if you’re ready…”
  38.
  39. Yellow thought about it for a moment. Whatever had happened couldn’t be that bad, could it? The team was all still here, alive and well, and none of them had become cold-blooded killers in the aftermath. She didn’t doubt her manager, but whatever it was… if seeing it was necessary to help the team win, she’d see whatever happened and endure it. For them.
  40.
  41. Yellow signed, and Hermes’ shoulders grew tense as he made the papers vanished. He clasped his hands together, focusing his Nen. “Papers received. Please wait three to six weeks for processing.”
  42.
  43. “Three to six weeks?!” Danny cried out, suddenly panicked. “We’re going on tomorrow!”
  44.
  45. “I know,” Hermes said. “It’s just a thing we have to say. I’ve already gotten everything processed. ...Wait, you took that seriously? Do you always take that seriously?”
  46.
  47. “The ability,” Bisky said pointedly.
  48.
  49. “Oh, right. Let’s test our connection.” Hermes sat down on the floor, clasped his hands together, and spoke the words that began his ability. Yellow heard the words for hardly a moment before she was neck-deep in shared memory, her focus on the outcome of Round 5 so intense that it dredged up the memories in Hermes’ mind almost instantaneously.
