  1. Backstory:
  2. - Born as a orphan and raised in an orphanage, Saxon was bullied by the other kids in the orphanage. One day in the streets, he was running away from some of the other orphanage kids and he took a turn into the old harbor. The other orphanage kids followed him and Saxon was still on the run. Eventually the harbor ran out of dock and with the others still behind him he ran onto the ship docked at the last dockport.
  3. The ship was not manned by sailors however, atleast they didn't look like the kind of sailors Saxon usually observed at the docks. They instead looked like men of religion, but leaner and more muscular than the usual plump-looking priests in the Temple of Asmodeus on Temple Hill. They turned to him and Saxon ran up to the closest man and clutched the hem of his robes and begged him to save him from the other kids. The other orphans who were chasing him however did not follow him onto the boat, as they saw little sport in dealing with adults only to get scolded for it later at the orphanage and be forced to bed with no dinner.
  4. The Cleric, seeing that this boy was an orphan saw the opportunity for Saxon to join their order and serve Irori - if he could be taught to internalize the values and tenets of Irori.
  5. The cleric asked Saxon "Why do you not defend yourself?" to which Saxon replied "I'm not strong enough - I don't know how to fight!".
  6. The cleric introduced Saxon to another taller and more muscular man next to him. He was wearing the same clothes as the cleric.
  7. "This is brother Birch. He is the strongest man of our order, and he has won more fights than I can count - without ever striking a man."
  8. Saxon looked at him. "How?" Saxon asked "Can you teach me to fight like that?".
  9. "Yes," the Cleric said, "He can." The cleric continued on: "Our order has no official place of worship in this city and it suits us just fine. In exchange for using the old docks as a place to gather and meditate and worship Irori, we lend our services loading and unloading the cargo of the city. You will come back here each day after your duties to the orphanage have been fulfilled so that we may teach you the tenets of Irori, so that you may serve him, and doing so will serve yourself as well."
  10. So Saxon came every day after he finished his chores at the orphanage. Every day was spent learning the tenets of Irori, constant meditation, and hard physical labor working the docks. This brotherhood of Irori first taught him that the best way to win a fight was to avoid it all together. They taught him to seek peace and diplomacy before ever seeking violence. He studied how to make peace by many methods. All the way from speaking clever words to his old orphanage bullies all the way to studying historical documents of treaties between nations and everything in between. In this way - Saxon learned - was how Brother Birch had won so many of his fights. The brotherhood then taught him that the next best way was to be so skilled at fighting that no one wished to fight you at all. After years of studying peace - working at the docks had made him strong and lithe - quick and balanced. Brother Birch then began to teach him how to make war. He was trained to use his mind and body as a weapon. Everything from grand strategy literature to the intense physical regimen of Irori's warrior monks were his to undertake. Then the brotherhood taught him about enlightenment, the pursuit of perfection and the inner self. They taught him to access the deepest recesses of his spirituality and hone it as he had honed his mind and his body. Eventually he outgrew the orphanage and became a full disciple of Irori - taking the name Brother Saxon and serving Irori through the pursuit of enlightenment, self reflection, and perfection. Through his past experiences of being bullied he now has a very strong sense of justice and has a very great dislike of the course of current events to befall the city of Kintargo and he sees Thrune as nothing more than just another bully like those from his childhood. As such, Brother Saxon attends the protest of Thrune's takeover to peacefully demonstrate his disapproval of the government's actions. Also because ever since they banned mint he can't brew his favorite mint tea.
