  1. >Fire Emblem Heroes vs Fate/Grand Order NA
  2.
  3. Both of these games are fierce competitors in a competitive market. The burgeoning world of western mobage is unexplored, and both of these games attempt to grab the attention of players. I'll discuss what each of them do good and bad. Which aspects do each game do better?
  4.
  5. In my opinion, the quality of a game boils down to the following categories
  6. >Art
  7. >Performance
  8. >Gameplay
  9. >Content
  10. >Progression
  11. >Endgame
  12. >Advancement
  13. >Story
  14. >Resource Gain
  15. >Welfares
  16. >RNG
  17. >Rates
  18. >Developers
  19. >Updates
  20. >Transparency
  21.
  22. I'll start with Art. While both games have their stinkers in terms of art, I have to give the edge to FGO. The majority of the art is very well done and while FEH does have some very cute girls (Summer Corrin, Delthea, Celica) the real thing that clutches it out are the male designs. The girls are close but the high quality boys like Cu, Gil, Redman and Kintoki give FGO the edge in art. The ascension arts are also quite sexy, which is enough to forgive the lazy/poorly drawn girls like ALL I DO IS KILL, Marie, Lancer Liz, Boudica and Orion. The FEH Chibis are cute but the FGO sprites are more emotive.
  23.
  24. Next up is
  25. >Performance
  26. FEH wins handily on this. FGO runs like absolute shit and chugs like a motherfucker even on modern phones like the S7. Super long load times combined with NP's lagging the game and ridiculous battery consumption means FEH wins this by a landslide
  27.
  28. Next is
  29. >Gameplay
  30. FEH completely and utterly destroys FGO in every way, and so we need to break it down just how much better FEH does gameplay compared to FGO.
  31. To start with, variety. Skill Inheritance offers many more options than Craft Essences and allows you to make truly unique characters to fill niches your team needs. Reinhardt might be one of the best characters with Dire Thunder, but his stats actually make him a pretty decent Raven user. Cecilia is godlike as both a Bladememer and a TAdept Raven girl. Xander can run the Distant Def and Res boosting skills to become an all around tank, the powerful Fury/Vantage set, a QR Ignis/Bonfire counter-attack set or even a Brash Assault set if you're feeling memey. The Breaker skills mean you can build to counter and build to counter counters. FGO's rigid system means that you give each servant their Optimal 5* Craft Ess, level up their skills as much as you can, then pick the best buffer for that type of meme team. There are just so few possible combinations in FGO compared to FEH, so in Complexity and Build Variety/Customization, FEH completely shits on FGO.
  32.
  33. But what about the gameplay itself? FGO is insanely limited. Each card combination you get has an optimal order and skills are just piled on to do more damage. It's completely solved. The game practically plays itself. Ironically, it doesn't have an Auto system, unlike FEH which has a good auto system that grinds for you. The gameplay in FGO is stale and lacks permutations. You never have to worry about jack shit. It's just NP spam to 3 turn clear, or failing that, spam your servant's best colour and hope you get lucky. Compared to FEH which takes into account positioning, enemy AI movement, terrain, skills, Specials, Assists, team synergy and more, the game's far more deep in terms of combat and in basic gameplay. Additionally, FEH is free of all RNG once in battle, which means strategic thinking is a core part of the experience.
  34.
  35. Moving on from this is Progression. And again, FEH completely shits on FGO.
  36. In FGO, progression is done by spending hundreds of hours farming .2% droprates for materials you need dozens, if not hundreds of. This is the only way to progress. You just grind, grind and grind until you've got the required number of drops. You could get it in 3 minutes or get 0 after 10 days. And to rub it in, the materials are only available one day a week, so it's slowly drip-fed to you. Those are the only real ways to progress your characters. Skill ups, ascensions and level ups are all the result of grinding and nothing else. Combined with FGO's lackluster gameplay, you get a torturous slog where you are rewarded with pain and suffering. It's utterly pointless. And after that, you can use one of the extremely limited items to actually get them to max level. Oh, and Fous. Just... fous. And despite Grails, you can NEVER make a 1* as good as a 5*, no matter how hard you try.
  37.
  38. FEH objectively obliterates FGO in this regard. Progression is natural leveling with frequent EXP ups. Skills are learned from SP which are gained from killing enemies, but with Arena/Tempest bonus units getting double SP and frequent bursts of double SP (Double SP weekends) along with chain challenges, it's never a super long grind. Feathers are handed out incredibly often, which let you raise 1 star shitters up to the level of 5* units with ease. You get your favourite? You can 5* them and they'll perform quite well, especially if you build them correctly. Playing with characters is rewarded with Hero Merit, 3000 feathers to use to raise up other units or just use them for Skill Inheritance, You're rewarded for playing with your characters and seeing them grow. You can turn a meek weakling into the star of your team. You can train up the units at a reasonable pace and turn most any unit into a force to be reckoned with. The addition of Supports means you can S-rank your favourite unit to give them a huge boost, which means that even the shitiest of waifus/IV screwed units can kick all kinds of ass. You can always use your favourites and make your favourites as lethal as you can.
  39.
  40. Skill Inheritance lets you mulch units you don't want and give their skills to others, so building your units up does require rolling investment, but most of the best skills are plentiful and easy to get.
  41.
  42. In terms of progression, FEH kicks FGO's ass so hard it's actually laughable. FEH's progression is far better than FGO's and it's probably the worst part of the game. but in FGO, the progression is all there is. Don't you like not getting hearts? You can also get to read a typo-ridden interlude that makes little sense, but it does have the plus side of giving a little more story for the servants. Despite that, FEH still wins by a country mile.
  43.
  44. Leading on from this is the endgame. FGO has no endgame. It's literally an endless grind, being rewarded with fucking nothing. in FEH, however, you have semi-PVP challenges (Which invites creativity in order to get Arena Defenses) that reward you with Orbs, the incredibly difficult Chain Challenges and Squad Assaults (Which require you to get multiple teams up and running) which reward you with orbs, a game mode that calls upon you to make the most out of even your worst units with Arena Assault (And the addition of items means it's a fine distraction) which reward you with a mystery coin and yet more feathers, and then the Tempest Trials, which are long slogs which promote the use of healing units and make you consider longevity (Rewarding you with Orbs, Feathers, 4 and 5* free units and Sacred Seals). There are also Grand Hero Battles (Maps with 3 difficulties for players of all skill levels/hero strength that reward you with freebies of popular villains. Some GHB units are so good they define the meta. It'd be akin to getting a free Jeanne with 2 other copies to give her an NP boost. Xander and Camus are just that good), Bound Hero Battles (Difficult challenges that give more free orbs) and daily quests that offer many, many stamina potions (Golden apples) Duel Crests (For Arena, but not Arena assault, which can be played with 0 resources) and Feathers/Orbs. This means there's a bunch to do even after clearing the story on Lunatic. Finally, there are Voting Gauntlets, which are essentially Splatfests but for Waifu Wars (Or husbando wars). You get the whole community together to have a whole bunch of fun that spawns fanart and good memories. MOMMYfags had their heyday and got a bunch of futa porn out of it, there's the memorable showdown between Ephraim and Chrom (Winner chooses who gets stomped by Lucina) and so on. Oh, and you get Orbs and Feathers from it.
  45.
  46. FGO, comparatively, has nothing. At all. Just grinding. Don't you like not getting hearts?
  47.
  48. But what about the story? Well, FEH's story is it's weak point. It's very dry, generic and the characters aren't the deepest. There's a little mystery and some nice world building though and it aims to bring in aspects of different parts of the games, which is very nice. But in FGONA?
  49. You've got a very good introductory session. But that only leads to an utterly pointless and needlessly drawn out vacation in france, leading into Rome, which is literally the worst bit of Type Moon Media ever produced. Rome makes no fucking sense. There's no way that Spartacus and Boobica would ever, for a single SECOND, consider working with Nero. It's a direct violation of their legend. Since they were summoned by the grail and their hatred for romans is actually a huge part of their legend, there's ZERO justification for that even happening. By all internal logic it's impossible, but it happens away because Nero is the biggest mary sue out of all written media. Instead of Nero facing her shortcomings she stomps her enemies and is given a pat on the back and told how great she is and how everyone loves her. There's no dealing with the very real problems that the actual Nero had to deal with, it's just an needless parades of everyone loving Nero despite him being reviled as one of the worst emperors. The other Emperors that Nero meets do precious little to actually advance her and by the time you get to Stheno and Tamacat's pointless filler island you're begging for death. That fucking island makes no fucking sense, it's literal filler and a waste of AP all for a shitty REJOICE reference
  50.
  51. And after you slog through all that bullshit and the shitty maps of fighting the same THREE roman soldiers over and over again you finally get some hints of shit being good with Waver s and Alexander meeting, which should be great, right? One of the finest strategic minds coming to clash with Nero while his host also bonds with Alexander, an inversion of the iconic relationship from F/Zero OH WHAT'S THAT THEY BOTH DIED LMAO
  52. ANOTHER POINTLESS WASTE OF TIME
  53. None of those chink servants telling what they know of Zhang, just a shitty unceremonious death. You go through all that to meet TSM Leffen, who does his thing, jobs hard, then summons Altera, who also dies. Then it ends.
  54.
  55. Why the fuck was any of that needed? Why wasn't it inverted? Why wasn't it Nero teaming up with past emperors who were critical of her, but she wins their respect and learns from them as she fights against vengeful servants from the nations that Rome conquered? Spartacus and Boudica could have bonded and been together as enemies who couldn't let go of their grudges against the romans, dying while cursing Rome, causing Nero to wonder and think about just what it is she's doing, and if she is reviled outside of her own little echo chamber. You could have had the Grecian historical heroes struggling to fight off the combined might of Rome once more, but Mr Huge Wang uses his keikakubrain to shit out a mythological servant, causing the group to try and befriend Stheno to get the help needed to fight off, let's say Heracles tagging with Leonidas. Or the British summoning Arthur to defend their country in a time of peril. It'd culminate with the Leffen showdown, but now it's got a whole different twist. The Roman emperors bare witness to the destruction wrought by Attila the Hun, and they're made aware that they won't always be able to save Rome and it will one day fall, but Nero growing and swearing to try her best to protect her land.
  56.
  57. There was so much more that could have been done with Rome and it's so fucking atrocious and shit and garbage it's quite frankly insulting. So yeah, FGO had a good first two acts but Rome shits the bed so fucking hard FEH wins out in the end by sheer virtue of not having something as horrible and terrible as rome. Who knows, when we finally get the rest of the content (LOL) FGO can win this back.
  58.
  59. >Resource gain
  60. FGO is stingy as fuck with Orbs. FEH gave like 30 for Tempest Trials and gives 2-5 a day for playing, plus right now we get 2 a day from dailies and then bursts of like 9 orbs from BHBs. FGO doesn't even give you one quartz per day. FEH shitstomps FGO in this regard. You can roll far more frequently.
  61.
  62. >Welfare units
  63. FEH gives out multiple free units from GHBs, events like the retweet campaign, Sacred Seal quests, Tempest Trials and a small cadre of decent freebies in the Askr Trio. You also got to choose between four of the strongest and most popular units in the game to get one for free. Imagine if you got to choose between Waver, Merlin, Jeanne Alter and Cu Alter for free. And you got it. No strings attached. No paid gacha. Just... for free. That's what they just had as an event. FGO gives you a 4* and another 4* if you started at the beginning. A clear win for FEH.
  64.
  65. >RNG
  66. In combat, FEH has no RNG. More strategic thinking. FGO is a luckfest or it doesn't matter due to AOE waveclears.
  67.
  68. >Rates
  69. FEH has a lot of bullshit with rates. Still far better than FGO. Let's compare a few certain things. I've split rates into 3 categories
  70. >Getting ur waifu
  71. >For getting many high rarity units.
  72. >Getting a semi-optimal waifu
  73. >Getting a nearly-optimal waifu
  74.
  75. But first we need to talk about the Orb System.
  76.
  77. The Orb system means you can pick and choose what you want from the gacha. In FGO terms, you'd do a 10 roll, see 10 options. You'd get to know if it was a Craft Essence, a Knight (Saber/Lancer/Rider) hero, a Cavalry Hero (Let's say Rider/Assassin/Caster) or a Misc Hero (Berserkers and that wonderful rainbow of snowflake units in between). Then you'd pay 3 quartz to pick the ones you want. Just going for Jeanne Alter? Snipe her cards. Sometimes you don't summon any at all, which blows, but there are no regrets when you duck out after getting a single roll. This makes it much more convenient for sniping, making getting spooked a FAR rarer occurrence.
  78.
  79. For getting ur waifu, FEH wins handily. The 4* rate is 58% compared to FGO's 3*, so you're over 19 times more likely to grab a 4* unit. So if your wife is in the 4* pool, you're in luck. Unlike the people here who can spend hundreds and never see a Saber Alter, FEH gives a huge rate to 4*s so they're gotten easily. And most 4*'s are quite good. best unit in the game's a 4* base hero. for 5*'s it has a 3% rate for the hero on rate up. So you have over FOUR Times the chance to get your waifu, and in practice far more because you're sniping her colour.
  80. Additionally, you get a pity rate that keeps climbing. So it's very easy to get your wife if you save in FEH, while FGO is a complete crapshoot because of the 0.7% rate. Hell, the poor assholes rolling for Saber alter have to deal with a 1.05% rate, while FEH gives you a BONUS 1% rate if you managed to fuck up 20 rolls without a max rarity unit.
  81.
  82. For getting many high rarity units, FEH wins yet again! 6 times the chance to get a 5* unit, and that only increases as you fail rolls thanks to pity rates. If you're looking to deck out your barracks with max rarity heroes, FEH is far better
  83. >Getting a semi optimal waifu
  84. And here FEH wins. Again.
  85. >B-but IV's
  86. Chance of getting a 5* focus at +Atk or +Spd without -Spd or -Atk is 0.86% with no pity rate, rising to 1% with a pity rate of 0.5 (So after 10 rolls). 0.86% for one of the best possible versions of your waifu that only rises. Which is significantly higher than the 0.7% of a character on banner that FGO has. So even accounting for Ivs (And ignoring the fact that Seals+Supports now fix banes, Arena Assault and SI providing a great use for poor IV units and merges) FEH is STILL Better than FGO when it comes to 5*! And you even get more rolls
  87.
  88. >Getting an optimal waifu
  89. FEH wins again. You've got to get 11 versions of your wife and one or two other characters. Due to the way probabilities work, you're far more likely to get the 11 versions of your wife when sniping than you are to get 5 versions of the 0.7% roll then 5 copies of the 5* Craft Essence to get your optimal unit. So even in the domain of Whales, FEH wins.
  90.
  91. So FEH has better rates in every conceivable aspect and you get far more chances to roll, more and better freebies.
  92. OH
  93. AND A FREE ROLL ON EVERY BANNER.
  94.
  95. So in terms of Rates, it's an undeniable win for FEH by any metric.
  96.
  97. Now for >Playing the game
  98. FGO's stamina system and jewishness with Apples means that you're not really playing much at all. if you want to go hard, you just... can't. Not unless you pay. FEH, on the other hand, shits Stamina potions all over you. Quests and all that give Stamina potions, you get them for logging in and more! It's wonderful, really. And even if you are out of Stamina, instead of doing Literally Nothing like in FGO, you can play unlimited amounts of Arena Assault for no resource use and use Duel Crests for normal Arena. So in terms of being able to play the game when you want, FEH wins.
  99.
  100. >Developers
  101. Keep in contact with the users, have livestreams and story posts, and they listen. They hear improvements the playerbase want and implement them. Players wanted no stamina cost to equip skills and reduced Training Tower cost. They did that. They asked for more reasons to use stamina and we got TT. Players asked for more ways to get orbs and we got Arena Orbs. Players asked for more things to do without stamina and we got Arena Assault. Players wanted counters to Reinhardt and we got a free 5* Anti-Rein unit. Players wanted Supports, and they fucking added in supports. They listen and try to actively make the game better
  102.
  103. The SEANiggers on the other hand, post outdated information and release typo and bug-ridden product then clam up.
  104.
  105. FEH gets biweekly updates that add a little bit of story or new features, a constant, steady stream of content. FGONA updates WHENEVER LOL PLS UDNERSTANDU
  106.
  107. FEH has a roadmap of upcoming content, concrete dates and teasers without spoiling the whole thing. It's easy to figure out what's coming when.
  108. SEANIGGERS update whenever
  109.
  110. The FEH developers care a lot more about the game than the Seaniggers in charge of FGO, and they do a better job of it.
  111.
  112. So overall, FEH wins when it comes to Rates, Devs, Playing the Game, Combat, Unit Building, Unit Progression, Game Progression, Story, Performance, Generosity, Freebies, Resources, Endgame and Updates.
  113.
  114. FGO wins in art.
  115.
  116. The long and short of it is that you're all addicted. Grinding for mats is little more than a skinnerbox you use to slake off the cravings from rolling the slots. It's an unhealthy, incredibly exploitative game that preys on the worst aspects of human psychology and threatens to drive you broke. The game underneath the pretty art is terrible. FGONA is a horrid product that shouldn't exist under capitalism, yet it still does.
  117.
  118. The crux of the issue is simple. FGO is a skinnerbox and slot machine with a game hastily pasted over it. FEH, Granblue, Girls Frontline, Project Tokyo Dolls, Honkers, basically everything, is a game with a gambling system built in. But FGONA fails at even that. IT doesn't try to pretty itself up. It doesn't try to make itself presentable. It's a half-broken skinnerbox/slot simulator that attracts addicts with barely any game to it. It's hard to even classify it as a game compared to other mobage. It fails in nearly every aspect of game. But your waifu is trapped inside, so you spent hundreds of hours tapping for hearts, paying for a chance of a chance to see her, only to be denied and left with nothing.
  119.
  120. FGO is bad, and FGONA is even worse. FGONA is the bottom of the barrel trash, and if the market forces are any indication, it should hopefully die soon.
