  2.
  3. The office was in something of disarray. Not a pen was out of place or a folder or paper askew, but despite that a nervous energy hung in the air. Just tense and on edge as though everyone knew something bad was going to happen. One wiped his brow, abnormally sweaty, before the door opened and the tall imposing figure walked in.
  4.
  5. The nearest figure stood up, bowing at his approach. "Welcome sir, hope you are finding yourself comfortable this day!" The man was ignored of course, stepping around him as eyes sought and found his target-a bespectacled figure at his desk. A long scar traced up from his chin up and over the side of his face, making him stand out in the crowd.
  6.
  7. With swift easy steps the business man with the bluebeard moved over and sat down in front of the bespectacled figure. "There is an irregularity in my accounts. I want it explained." No introduction or pleasantries, and the bespectacled man nodded. He knew his father better than anyone-trying to have 'personal chat' would only upset and frustrate him further.
  8.
  9. "The situation fortunately isn't as bad as it appears. During the merger with Hikan Studios there were some accounts who had similar names-during the transfer and consolidation things were shuffled around a little. The money was all there, just under incorrect assignments. I found out about this last night, we've been working to get everything sorted since." He didn't mention staying after hours, or the absolutely tear-felt pleading that had come from the division head in charge of the merger. More details that would only anger his father. "While we were concerned that this might be about corruption, it appears that it was simply a complication with how their systems integrated with ours. Everything is in order."
  10.
  11. "Well, I want whoever was responsible for this fired. we don't need this kind of incompetence." The blue bearded man frowned, and pulled a paper from his briefcase. "And I've been having my own people look over everything to make sure."
  12.
  13. The son’s eyebrow rose only a hair. Of course. 'His own people' as though family working for /his/ bank managing his accounts wasn’t enough. “If they have found some other discrepancy, I’ll gladly look into it. So far though nothings out of order.”
  14.
  15. The bluebearded man only sneered. “Really? Then how do you explain this?” A folder was moved to the table, slipped from the briefcase. Sure enough, a single account with a monthly stipend-every month company money was being sent to a private account. “I don’t believe I authorized anyone to be using the Tankenfu Fund. Why is this money being transferred.”
  16.
  17. The son looked over the paper, before eyes lifted. “Thats… thats the stipend for Suhina.” No reaction from man with the blue beard, and the son found himself feeling increasingly awkward. “Suhina Tankenfu? Your daughter.”
  18.
  19. The bluebearded mans expression only darkened. "I don't have a daughter. And whoever this girl is, I want to know is why she’s getting my money."
  20.
  21. The son sighed, briefly removing his glasses and pinching the bridge of his nose. If anything this only made the man grow more angry, and both hands gripped the table-the oak protesting underneath the squeeze. "I demanded an explanation. Is there a /problem/ with why you are not already providing it?"
  22.
  23. Now bereft of glasses, the son locked gazes-scarred visage meeting bearded expression. "That depends sir. If we are speaking as a manager to his client, then you've placed me in the unfortunate position of having to correct you. Your coarse denial has given me no way to put it diplomatically-I am forced to declare you wrong. If we are speaking as a son to his father, then I am in the doubly awkward position of having to explain your liaisons to you. Both I'd consider a problem."
  24.
  25. A beat passed, gazes locked, before the bluebearded man laughed-a surprisingly boisterous noise given the dark mood of a few moments ago. The tension in the whole office changed, a few nearby figures releasing breathes they didn't know they were holding, and the bluebearded figure finally smiled. "Alright, alright, fair enough. My apologies, you are aware of my temper." He reached into a pocket, finding a small bitter candy to pop into his lips. "Let me start over. I don't /recall/ any daughters, let alone any that should be getting any payments. Please, enlighten me."
  26.
  27. Another folder pulled from the desk, and now the tension faded glasses replaced, back to perching on the sons nose. The folder opened, revealing the pert grinning expression of a pinkhaired girl, as well as a copy of her transcript from the orphanage, a detailing of her admittedly mediocre academic achievements, notes and observation from staff and more. "Daughter of Rosuki Tankenfu. After you and her mother parted ways, she was left with a shelter to raise. You had a stipend arranged-should she get proper schooling it would be subsidized from the Tankenfu family accounts. She is."
  28.
  29. The frown returned, though now at least it was more contemplative. "I thought that Rosuki had a son."
  30.
  31. The bespectacled figure gave a shrug. "As it turns out that is not the case. You remain with only one of those." A touch of acid on those words, and the blue bearded figure just gave a rumbling chuckle, and began to look through the file. "Her grades are poor. I find it hard to believe she could get anywhere I'd consider respectable. You certain she's not taking my money to become a NEET? I won't waste money on such a layabout."
  32.
  33. "I'm certain that is not the case sir." The son responded, and moved forward-turning the page on the file. "As you can see here, the institution she's managed to find herself is most certainly qualified. In addition to schooling, she is getting a stipend for both an apartment and personal aid. Right now she thinks she qualified for a grant."
  34.
  35. The bluebearded man continued to peruse the article-only to freeze as he finally found the institution she was using. "UA High. That is the top university for superheroes, is it not?"
  36.
  37. The son nodded, finding his breath as he adjusted the cuffs of his jacket. "Indeed. I didn't feel the need to consult you if it qualified-they are simply the best. While her grades aren't where they expect them, she's already begun remedial studies to bring her up to an adequate level."
  38.
  39. The man with the blue beard continued to scrutinize the file-attention drifting over to the face of the boy... no, girl he hadn't thought of in over a decade. "A superhero. That... is really quite something. Unexpected." He tapped the picture, eyes tracing over the big wide naive expression of the pink haired student. "You know, it looks like that shelter did alright by her. She's apparently grown into a lovely young woman." With that he stands, gathering his things. "Keep an eye on her. If she does well in school, who knows. Maybe an appointment is in order to meet the youngest member of the Tankenfu family."
