  1. Empathy helps with having successes in both personal and professional life. I believe that being empathetic does not come naturally but if you have the right intentions and practice it will certainly make it easier. I practice empathy every day in my relationships with people and professional aspirations and feel that it has made a less frustrated person and better at understanding my surroundings. Being empathic helps you build better software because if we stop and think about how we have evolved as a society, people today take their relationships with technology seriously and sometimes even personal. Technology is what runs many people’s daily lives. If we stop and put ourselves in people’s shoes and connect with their emotions it will give us the ability as developers to create meaningful and efficient software for the world. In order, to be successful in any industry it is important to listen to people’s opinions and take them into consideration because we all have different experiences and come from diverse backgrounds. As a consultant, it was vitally important for me to listen to my colleagues. I was not an expert in every area, so listening to an expert was important in order, to carry out a successful installation for the client. I find most challenging to be empathetic when a person is being aggressive and not willing to listen to any points of view but their own. In this type of situation, I think it is important to address the issue upfront and let the person know of how they are coming across.
