- The Mage Giant
- I’m Reki: The writer of this short tale, well actually it’s grimmer... I’m writing this as a kind of goodbye if things go wrong. I’m going to fight something, something grand. I dare not say, as I might invoke those to come avenge me…
- See I’m not too full of myself, I’m stronger than most sure, but if I can’t handle it then my friends surely can’t. I’ve heard. “Strength is your will to stand alone, yet stand for someone else.”
- It’s funny. I remember being young, being weaker than the others, I wanted to be strong but I never could. To say this made me feel down is an understatement, it made me feel completely miserable…
- One fateful day though I find myself watching a mage in awe, and I ask him. “How do you that?”
- He said to me. “Like this” Flicking a flame to his finger. Of course he didn’t teach me, he was merely turning my frown upside down.
- But… I just copied him, for hours, smiling. I didn’t give up, not for one bit, and eventually I was able to make sparks.
- It felt like I was giving it my all, everything I got. It drained me, and it didn’t seem to be any stronger because of that, but I saw hope in those sparks for as dim as they were.
- It didn’t matter that it was hard for me. I kept at it. Every day I kept trying to master those sparks.
- I decided to travel when I got older.
- I started to learn the three elements and though it felt like I was giving more than anyone else. My magic was just as big as theirs...
- I was strong in my own right, but that didn’t matter…
- Every once and awhile, someone would say: “You’d be better if you weren’t a giant.” “Don’t you think you should be using an axe?” No matter how hard I tried, how many times I’ve came close to death, it didn’t matter. It did not matter.
- That’s where I stop this sad tale and give some hope. You can be anyone and be anything. Be the hero or villain of your tale.
- Though everyone keeps pushing down I take that as a challenge. A true giant - no - a true mage giant stands regardless. There aren’t many like me, but maybe writing this will give some hope to those weak as well. We don’t have to be weak. We can be strong in our own right. My enemy will not break my will. I will continue to get better.
- I don’t take the easy way, I admit, but I will not give up. I will not give up till I hear someone tell me I’m stronger for who I am!
- I will survive this fight. I will finally prove that I am a giant among mages!
