Log #1 8:30

I was late for my first day at the Manehattan penitentiary. Coming from a small town, I didn’t take traffic into account. I expected a stern talking to that morning. On the contrary my colleagues seemed to be ecstatic. Unfortunately, it didn’t go without punishment. I seemed to be the scapegoat (No offense to any goats that might come across this log.) assigned to watch over a trouble inmate that returned this morning. I gladly accepted of course, not wanting to lose my job on day one and go running back home with my tail between my legs. It wouldn’t look good, being the oldest stallion sibling in my family.

Log #2 8:43

The inmate was a peculiar bipedal creature, resembling a minotaur. I froze when the creature looked back at me, studying me in much the same manner. This… thing was undoubtedly a carnivore, what with the forward set eyes and canines. Any herbivore can instinctively point that out. I pushed through the fear. I had to, lest the furless beast take advantage of the situation. I had started a light conversation with it. He or she doesn’t talk much but does respond from time to time. Despite my name being Time Out, the creature seems to have given me a nickname, “Timmy.” I smiled at this. He or she seems more friendly than the others let on.

Log #3 8:55

Apparently this Hoo-man creature, as it called itself, didn’t get breakfast. I almost fell back at the realization. The other guards are purposely avoiding the creature and I, so it seems I need to figure this one out for myself. I rushed her, (She also stated she was a mare. I took her word for it.) to the cafeteria as soon as possible before she made me her next meal. The cafeteria was clear but I was able to fetch her a standard tray and sit her down. I explained the routine for the day, relaxing a bit as I did so. She nodded in recognition as she ate the chocolate pudding, kicking her legs outward playfully in her seat. It seems even carnivores can’t withstand the temptation of pudding. I just hoped that it alone was able to hold her off for now because she didn’t even spare a second glance at the apple and hay.

Log #4 10:15

I dropped her off for recess and left her off to her own devices. How much trouble can one Hoo-man cause in 30 minutes after all? Being a bit more curious, I stopped by the office and searched through any records of Anon. Surprisingly enough, there was nothing about her. As if she just comes and goes. It looks like she was never even officially admitted. She seemed polite, cute even. She probably hasn’t done anything wrong if it isn’t recorded. Celestia help me if this is all a discriminatory act. I’d get to the bottom of this.

Log #5 10:17

I was wrong in my suspicion. The inmate got into a fight with one of the gang leaders while I was away. Witnesses say he provoked it by stealing her ball, so her punishment isn’t as terrible as it could be. It still is brutal considering she kicked sand into his eyes and shoved him into the ground. She then proceeded to fling fire ants at the members with a stick. It’s rare you come across a convict like this. I had my work cut out for me (So did the nurse.) but I knew I could pull through. Living up the my namesake, after a stern scolding I put the creature on a stool in one of the vacant rooms. She would need to sit there for a whole thirty minutes. In any other circumstance I’d cut it to fifteen and take her pudding privileges for the remainder of the day. The whole carnivore thing made me think otherwise. She crossed her arms in defiance and remained silent.

Log #6 10:18

I immediately went to the warden to file a report against anon’s behavior during lunch. “Now’s a time as any to fill that record,” I thought. To my surprise the warden reacted angrily, slamming her desk with a hoof and told me to drop it. I inquired as to why and she became pensive and told me to just trust her word. “You’ll see why at three o’clock in the yard.” This didn’t satisfy me one bit, but she threatened that I would get laid off if I tried to go near her records. There was something fishy going on here but I suppose I’d comply for now.

Log #7 10:47

I went to fetch Anon, who looked to be a little worse for wear. Even more so than I. She seemed sad but brightened up a little bit when I mentioned it was club time. I’m thankful she didn’t seem to hold a grudge after my scolding. She then caught me off guard with a hug. I couldn’t press charges but I made sure to express my discomfort for fear that she would get the wrong idea. The poor creature has already been through a lot. She nodded in understanding.

Log #8 10:55

She took to the pencil and crayons quickly but wouldn’t let me see what she was working on. I pulled out a book and tried to see if I could find anything about Hoo-mans. Nothing.

Log #9 12:01

It’s lunch time so I had made a brisk pace to the cafeteria with Anon. Her stomach was growling something fierce. I decided it would be best to pass her my pudding cup as well. The table around us was completely cleared when we sat down and she frowned. I started up a conversation again and got to know her a little more. She called me her friend after we were done eating. Maybe this job isn’t so bad after all.

Log #10 2:00

Nap time for the inmates. After putting her to bed, I headed to the lounge to get some hot cocoa and maybe take a nap for myself.

Log #11 2:25

Startled awake by the loud crashing of the window, I jumped to my hooves. Squinting my eyes, I peered outside to see Anon tossing up rocks and then hitting them far with a stick. “Someone could lose their eye like that!” I yelled. Rushing to the yard I gave chase to Anon who was laughing maniacally. Despite having two legs she was pretty fast.

Log #12 2:50

My muscles are screaming at me to stop. Does this creature have a limit to her energy? Maybe giving her that extra pudding wasn’t such a good idea after all. I had to figure out something else for dinner. The other inmates seem to be awake now because I can hear them laughing at me in the distance. Bullies.

Log #13 3:00

I had never been so scared in my life. I wanted to flee but I was locked in place by fear. I don't think I had the stamina to run anymore either. This other savage looking bipedal predator in a suit, casually stepped over the fence to the yard. His size dwarfed our own and the other inmates retreated into the far corner of the yard when he stepped in. Much to my surprise, Anon ran up to the towering creature (Whom I learned by now was also a hoo-man.) He knelt down and caught her in his arms before standing back up.

She was fearless.

“How was day care? I hope you didn’t cause these tiny horses too much trouble again today.” He said in a deep, stern, and seemingly threatening voice.

"Celestia help us, There has to be something I can do,” I thought.

That’s when Anon saved the day, handing him the folded paper that she worked on during arts and crafts. Whatever was on it made him smile. I nearly wet myself when he slipped it into his coat and lumbered towards me. I thought my heart would stop as he reached into his back pocket and tossed some bits my way. He said he would be back with her tomorrow, before offhoofedly complaining about his day job and leaving with the inmate in his arms. I took the bribe and didn’t even try to stop him. I didn’t have the courage to do anything else. I’ll be handing in my resignation by the end of the week.
