Transitional justice refers to the mechanisms employed by countries that have gone through periods of severe human rights violations in order to achieve peace and stability. This concept was created during the end of the Cold War, as liberal ideals were being propagated to the world, causing multiple countries that had lived under authoritarian regimes to transition to democracy. Over the past few decades, transitional justice has developed and is now widely accepted and used by international organizations. However, human rights violations committed in the present are mostly the result of armed conflict, not authoritarian regimes. The objective of this investigation is to study the characteristics and demands of these two contexts and comparatively analyze the application of transitional justice in each one.
