  1. I thought I would share my concept on how I'd rework Thor. It's a big reinvention, but the basic ideas of Thor have either been done to a point where no one can ever top it again (see: Walter Simonson) or where the ideas are just better (see: the New Gods). This would be, basically, Thor meets the Green Lantern Corps meets New X-Men: Academy X.

  3. So, the hammer Mjolnir is shattered in some sort of big fight against Surtur or whatever, with the shards of the hammer falling all over midgard, each retaining some power and some of the worthiness enchantment. The hammer, which itself is kind of sentient and kind of magical, guides the shards towards people who are, if not themselves worthy, closer to it, all across the world. And, for plot contrivance reasons, most of those would be kids, teens, etc. Each of the shards still retains some of Mjolnir's powers, and each worthy person picking up the shard would get something - flight, super-strength, lightning, etc. Part of the whole Thor package, sort of the way that Jane got all the powers that Thor had.

  5. Anyway, for obvious reasons - they're all worthy, by definition - these people try to become superheroes, which initially goes poorly. Thor, now mostly powerless, figures out what's going on, and decides to do something about it. With some of the other Asgardians - Baldr, Sif, Kid Loki, Beta Ray, Skurge, Angela and Sera*, a few others - gathers the newly empowered people from across the world to the Asgard Academy, built in the ruins of Old Asgard. They'd repurpose the technology and magic of it into the school - Bifrost teleporters, the halls of the Einherjar as a Danger Room of sorts, Heimdall as a Cerebro equivalent - to train this 'Thor Corps**,' and eventually send them out into the Nine Realms to do the whole Green Lantern bit. With Thor being both Professor Xavier and the Guardians of the Universe, training and sending them out on missions.

  7. The students themselves would, well, also sort of be a mixture of Green Lantern and the Xavier School kids. So you have the same costumes for everyone, a mixture of Thor's classic costume (or the Jane!Thor costume for the ladies) and a school uniform. Maybe with a helmet, too, or an optional one for missions. But the crucial part is the Uru shards, the broken pieces from Mjolnir scattered across the world. Like Thor and the hammer, you need to be in close proximity to one to use the abilities, so most students mount it in a piece of jewelry - a ring,*** an amulet, an armlet, stuff like that.

  9. And, well, you get the idea. So, yeah. Thor and the Asgard Academy. What do you all think?
  10.
  11. *Sera would make a fantastic teacher, for that matter.
  12.
  13. **Yes, it's a stupid name. I am very open to better ones.
  14.
  15. ***Because the Green Lantern analogies weren't close enough, even.
