- The Mario Making Mods FAQ
- Listed here are the rules of this board. They should be followed by users on the board at all times.
- (Staff members are allowed to make exceptions to any rule, at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all.)
- General Disclaimer
- This board is for Super Mario Maker mods. This site does not support piracy in any way, shape, or form. Anyone attempting piracy here will be removed from the board on sight – no warnings, no questions asked.
- This board is not accountable for anything said or done by users here. The views contained in posted content may not be representative of the views of the owners of this website.
- We do not sell, distribute or otherwise disclose member information like IP addresses to any third party.
- If you have any questions about this site's policies or the information in this FAQ, please send a private message with your questions to a staff member.
- Cookies Disclaimer
- To make this site work properly, we sometimes place small data files called cookies on your device. Most big websites do this too.
- What are cookies?
- A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don't have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.
- How do we use cookies?
- Blargboard uses a cookie to manage your login session. It stores a random, 16-character-long alphanumeric string in your browser to ensure that your login session will be connected to your browser only, and not to anyone else's. These are the only cookies our site uses.
- How to control cookies
- You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functionalities may not work.
- Welcome to the forums! We want this to be a friendly community, so some rules will have to be followed.
- Do I need to register to use the board?
- You can view the board without registering, but you need to register to post.
- What are all of these different layouts I see on posts?
- They're called post layouts. It's a customization option on the board for your posts to stand out.
- How do I get a layout?
- You must code one yourself. Sometimes there are others who might be willing to help you with your layout. If your layout is bad, you may find it deleted by a staff member. Make sure that when you design your layout, it isn't hard to read and doesn't stretch the tables.
- Cool! How do I make one?
- You need to know the basics of CSS (style sheets) to make a post layout. Just make sure you abide by the rules, though.
- Why should I register an account on the board?
- By registering a user account, you will be able to post on the board as well as use several features only accessible through registering, such as the ability to mark forums as read and private messaging. Unregistered users have guest access to the board, meaning they can view threads but not reply to them. They can also only see the board in whatever theme is the default.
- What is considered "spam" at a board?
- Spam is making:
- - A post that is off-topic, meaning that it has nothing to do with the original thread.
- - A post that is only a few words long and doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the discussion.
- - A thread that doesn't have any real meaning.
- - A thread with a poll that is pointless.
- - A thread that is an exact duplicate of a pre-existing, recent thread.
- If you feel that a thread is spam, then PM an admin and ask them to take a look at it. Don't lecture the poster on the dangers of spamming.
- I'm new. Where do I start?
- The best place for newcomers to start is the New Members thread where you can introduce yourself to the board. If you have any questions not addressed by the FAQ, feel free to ask them in the proper forum.
- Can HTML be used?
- Yes, it can be used in posts, private messages, nearly everywhere except in things such as thread titles, usernames, etc.
- Is there some sort of replacement code for HTML?
- Yes, but it's a bit limited. Most of the possibilities are listed on the new thread/reply pages.
- I just made a thread, where did it go?
- It was probably moved or deleted by a staff member. If it was deleted, please make sure your thread meets the criteria we have established. If it was moved, look into the other forums and consider why it was moved there. If you have any questions, PM a staff member.
- What can I do about my thread being closed/trashed/deleted?
- First off, don't complain on the board about a thread being closed or deleted, and don't single out a certain mod or admin as being responsible. This will result in a ban. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
- If you feel you need clarification on why the thread was closed, or if you feel a mistake was made, contact a staff member, preferably a local moderator who's in charge of the relevant forum, and politely explain the problem.
- Help! I've been banned! What do I do now?
- First off, do not create a new account to complain about your ban, as that will just result in a permanent ban from the board.
- Check your title, it should mention why you are banned and an expiration date if the ban is temporary.
- If you feel that the ban was unfair or if you wish to know exactly why you were banned, PM an admin and calmly ask about it.
- Aside from that, the only thing you can do is wait for the ban to expire and make sure you know why it happened. If there is no expiration date, you will have to prove that you have learnt your lesson before you can be allowed back.
- How do I add my EXP and post counters to my signature or post?
- You don't — this board software does not have things like Levels, experience or item shops, unlike the AcmlmBoard software it is based on.
- I feel that a user is being rude to me. What do I do?
- Stay cool. Don't further disrupt the thread by responding at all to the rudeness. Let a member of staff know with a link to the offending post(s). Please note that responding to the rudeness is promoting flaming, which is a punishable offense.
- What's this IRC thing I keep hearing about?
- If you have an IRC client like mIRC/HexChat, you can join a chatroom hosted by the 42Net network. All crazy kinds of things can happen there, but will you take the plunge? Connect to the server irc.42net.org and join the channel #MarioMakingMods. KiwiIRC is a great web client to start with if you don't know what you're doing.
- Can I register more than one account?
- No, you may not. Most uses for a secondary account tend to be to bypass bans. The the most common non-malicious use is to have a different name, and we have another feature will allow this cleanly. This feature is called Display Names.
- How do I get a custom title?
- Custom titles are titles you can use in addition to, or in place of the ranks provided by the board. There are three ways to get them:
- 1. After 100 posts, or if you have been around 2 months you will need 50.
- 2. Being a member of staff.
- The custom title is a reward for being an active member of the community. Use of the custom title to impersonate staff, or to flame members/staff may result in the loss of custom title.
- What are avatars & mood avatars?
- Avatars are a form of display picture which appears beside your posts and in your profile. Likewise, a mood avatar allows you to display a different picture as opposed to the one specified in your profile.
- Are private messages supported?
- Yes. Your private message inbox is represented by the notifications tab. Likewise, you may send a user a message from here, or alternatively use "Send Private Message" from the user's profile.
- What is a Search Feature?
- The search feature is used to search the forum posts and threads for whatever you may be looking for.
- What is the calendar for?
- The calendar lists user birthdays and special board events.
- How do I edit a poll I made?
- You don't. Poll editing is rather difficult to correctly implement and carries a risk of gross abuse. Imagine if you will, that you make a poll about something, and you don't like the results. With poll editing, you could then go and switch the answers around.
- How can I become a moderator or administrator?
- If us administrators trust you enough for this. Don't ask us, we may ask you if we ever feel you worthy of being promoted. Being a good and regular member helps, while asking for this doesn't. It also depends whether we feel a need to promote more people, which isn't so often the case.
- What do the different username colors mean?
- Username colors indicate permissions levels. Use the following table for reference:
- Male Female N/A
- Banned Banned Banned
- Normal user Normal user Normal user
- Local moderator Local moderator Local moderator
- Global moderator Global moderator Global moderator
- Administrator Administrator Administrator
- Owner Owner Owner
- However, if you see a color that's not in this list, it's because staff can do a custom color nickname.
- I have a question about the site not answered here.
- Ask a staff member, they can help you. They aren't bad guys!
- I have a question about SMM modding.
- Post your question over here in order to not make the board look clustered.
- How do I get banned?
- The standard way
- You can do it the standard way. Make derp posts and/or break the rules.
- But it's too mainstream.
- It will get you banned, but not immediately. You'll likely get a series of warnings before the staff actually starts banning you.
- There are more efficient ways of getting banned.
- Intolerance
- If you show off racism, homophobia or any other form of intolerance, you'll get banned pretty fast, and likely permanently.
- Intolerance is the number one cause of war and lots of other showoffs of complete stupidity in the world.
- Constantly questioning the authority
- This board isn't a dictatorship, the staff is always open to criticism about the actions taken.
- Questioning the authority is OK if done in a constructive manner. Constantly doing it with silly arguments and running into the admins, however, is a good way to get yourself banned.
- Pissing off the staff
- Bad things can happen if you piss off the staff (in special owners). But generally annoying people who are hierarchically superior to you is a good way to get banned.
- Teaming up with banned users
- Banned users are banned for a reason. Teaming up with them and trying to rebel against authority is a good way to get yourself banned as well.
- If you want to go this way, your best choice is Albertocml.
- What are the Rules?
- Posting: Don't
- Do not ask for copyrighted content, and do not post links to copyrighted materials in the public.
- Violators of this rule will be banned. That being said, you can post links to ISO's in PM's.
- Do not spam, troll, flame, harass, bash, etc.
- Blatantly offensive comments or actions directed at others will not be tolerated. While we do allow members to debate and voice their own opinions, there will be a limit to how far a heated debate can go before it is closed by staff. If you harass someone you will be disciplined.
- Please show respect for all members at Mario Making Mods; new or old. Disparaging remarks towards others about race, gender, origin, handicap, age, sexual orientation, personal politics and religion will NOT be tolerated and will most likely be removed by staff. The poster will then be warned or banned (see the Warnings section below for more information on warnings).
- Flaming, even in self-defense, is strictly prohibited. If you have something to say, say it respectfully or not at all. If someone is harassing you either use the report function or contact a staff member directly. Replying to a flame post will likely result in the removal of your post as well. Flambaiting, or attempting to draw other members into personally attacking you or eachother is also not allowed.
- We have a wide variety of smilies/emoticons for you to enjoy and express yourself but do not put too much in a post.
- Do this twice, and you will be warned.
- Do not respond to spam, trolling, flaming, harassment, bashing, etc.
- The reason is that the staff then has to delete your post as well, and it wastes our time. Instead, report the offending post with the "Report" button in its top-right corner.
- If one of your posts is removed don't repost it without staff permission.
- This is considered disrespectful and may result in a warning increase.
- Do not post someone's personal information without the proper consent.
- This includes personal photos, names, addresses, phone numbers, E-mail, instant messenger handles, conversation logs, etc. If the person requests that you remove the subject matter you must comply or else the staff members will intervene.
- Do not bump old threads without a good reason.
- "I'm having the same problem but none of the answers above have helped" or "Here's some new information about this" are good reasons to bump a thread. "Thanks for posting this" or "bump" are not.
- Do not argue with Staff in public about an issue you have.
- Use PM's.
- User Accounts
- Do not make multiple accounts.
- This is known as "reregistering" (or simply "reregging"). Each user is allowed only one account. Duplicate accounts will be deleted, and the user's original account will be banned as well.
- Do not use PMs to harass other members.
- Do not use proxy servers to access the board.
- Don't think that the staff can't figure out if you're doing this. If you have a legitimate reason to need a proxy, contact a staff member and explain your situation.
- Do not create an account with an inappropriate username.
- Such names will be changed.
- Don't reuse passwords.
- We've seen this issue occur on boards similar to this one. If your account password is leaked on any other site and your account here is abused here because of that, you are responsible.
- Post Layouts and Signatures
- While we allow very open and customizable layouts and side bars, we have a few rules that will be strictly enforced. Please read them over and follow them. Loss of post layout privileges will be enacted for those who are repeat offenders. If in doubt ask a member of staff. Staff has discretion in deciding violations. This list is expected to be updated regularly, so please make sure to stay up to date.
- Don't make your layout difficult to read.
- Having similar text and background colors makes it difficult to read your posts.
- Don't make your layout too wild.
- This includes spamming animations or crazy colors, or causing pages to lag.
- Don't put visible text in your layout header. Don't put visible text in your signature without showing the signature separator.
- Putting visible text in the header is confusing because it looks like part of your posts. This applies to signatures, too, though it's okay there if you check the "Show signature separator" box.
- The maximum allowed height for signatures is 150 pixels.
- Users with signatures larger than 150px will be contacted by staff and asked to edit their signature so it fits. If they do not fix the signature within a day of being notified, the signature may be deleted.
- If a user persists into having a terrible layout despite staff continually removing it, they'll be blocked from having a layout.
- Layouts that mess with another user's name or posts, or are offensive in any other way, will be removed on sight.
- It is also possible for users to block another user's layout.
- This way, if a user has a layout you don't like but that layout doesn't break the rules, you won't see that layout anymore.
- The board's staff is allowed to and has the ability to modify or remove any post layout or signature at any time and for any reason.
- Posting: Courtesy
- Read before you post.
- Before asking a question, make sure the answer isn't already there.
- Before you start a topic, perform a search to see if the question or topic you wish to create has been made before
- If it has, post in the topic that already exists. Duplicate topics will be closed.
- Please make the topic title you are creating descriptive, clearly reflecting the topic you are addressing.
- Do not make generic titles such as "Question", "I need help", or in full capitals, with an obscene amount of periods, exclamation marks, question marks, etc. These topics will probably go unnoticed, whereas a topic with a descriptive title will gain more interest.
- Show some restraint on the amount of images you post.
- Posts or topics with many images are a strain on dial-up users, so please be courteous.
- This is an English-speaking board.
- If you do not know English well, you can write your post in whatever language you are fluent in, provided it is followed by a English translation. You can use Google Translate or an equivalent service for this.
- Do not bring outside drama to this board.
- Outside issues with users stays outside of this board. We aim to be a friendly community, so this is not tolerated. Anybody bringing in drama from outside of Mario Making Mods's limits will be banned. There is no reason to bring in external drama that does not have anything to do with this place
- Warnings
- Accumulate 3 warning, and you will be banned for a day.
- Accumulate 6 warnings, and you will be banned for 2 days.
- Accumulate 9 warnings, and you will be banned for a week.
- Accumulate 12 warnings, and you will be banned for a month
- Accumulate 16 warnings, and you will be banned permanently.
- Warnings and Bans are at the discretion of Staff so the above may not apply in your situation. Different infractions may result in different punishments.
- The administration team reserves the right to make changes to the rules with or without proper notice.
