The connection to Releases or file downloads goes directly through to Amazon's S3 server, which is based in the United States -- your connection speeds will depend on your proximity to those servers.

If you would like to get some further insight into your connection to GitHub you could visit our debug site.

Once you have those results, I'd recommend next reaching out to your internet service provider (ISP) and providing them with the information so that they can investigate whether there may be any issue on their end.

You're most welcome to send the results to us as well but in most cases we have found if you're experiencing slow connections, the slow speeds are most likely due to network congestion or an ISP's routing. Since GitHub cannot resolve network congestion or the routing your ISP takes, its best to escalate the problem to your ISP first.

If they believe there's a problem on GitHub's end causing this issue, then please let them know they can reach out via GitHub Support and provide more details and logs.
