- We were out on the edge of town. A light layer of snow crusted the ground, crunching under our feet as we ran laughing round the old factory. We wasted a good three hours like that- I mean no, in light of how things turned out they weren't really wasted- but we kept ourselves from getting down to business until we had tired ourselves out from running in our winter boots like little kids.
- Anyway, Jess had the best butt of all the girls so I kept giving her the look as Hakeem laid down the base rules.
- "Alright, it's going to be just like an elementary school field trip in there. Look but don't touch, use the buddy system, and if something goes wrong, don't tell your parents."
- "I won't," promised Alex. He was a weird kid, pimply and bespectacled. I don't know we brought him along that day.
- “I can’t promise what we’ll find inside… I’ve been in places where the floors aren’t good anymore, so watch your step. Not that this place is that old-”
- “Let’s just get it out of the way now, Hak. What’s the worst that could happen? We all die young?”
- Samantha laughed at my joke. She had really terrible pigtails and a face only a mother could love. I’ll show you if you like.
