  1. >As you slowly regain conciousness, you're aware of a soft breeze blowing over you and an early-morning sunbeam bathing you in pleasant warmth
  2. >You hesitantly open your eyes, squinting in the sunlight
  3. >You are Celestia
  4. >And you kind of really don't feel good today
  5. >You're slightly nauseous, and there's an ache in your temples that almost hurts enough to distract you from where you are
  6. >You rise on unsteady legs
  7. Urgh....
  8. >You've overexerted yourself with magic before, but it's never felt like this
  9. >You look around and find your sister happily snoozing in the grass beside you
  10. >It's actually kind of cute, but you need to get home
  11. Luna. Wake up.
  12. >You say, tersely
  13. >She closes her eyes tighter, and turns away from you
  14. >She doesn't like mornings
  15. >But, you're too irritated to care much
  16. >You kick her sharply in the flank
  17. >She jerks awake, startled
  18. >'OW! What in the hay was that for?!'
  19. >You never remembered her voice being that grating
  20. We need to get going; Father is probably wondering where we are:
  21. >You say through gritted teeth
  22. >Every action and sound is amplified by this damnable headache
  23. >Luna rises to her feet and shakes the grass off of her
  24. >'Very well, Sister. Proceed.'
  25. >You wince
  26. >Fucking noises
  27. >Your horn begins to glow, and one brilliant flash of golden light later, you're back in the Equestrian throne room
  28. >As your vision clears, you notice the Royal day guards at their posts beside the throne, but the throne empty
  29. >It's probably too early for Father to be up
  30. Luna
  31. >She perks to attention
  32. I think I overexerted myself yesterday, because I'm feeling terrible today.
  33. Tell Father I'll talk with him later, but right now I'm going to my room to rest.
  34. I'd appreciate not being disturbed.
  35. >Luna looks at you, concerned
  36. >'O-okay. Go get some rest and feel better, Sister.'
  37. >You put on a pained expression, nod quickly, and begin walking away
  38. >As you leave, you hear Luna ask one of the guards about any news that happened in your absence
  39. >He says something about capturing a minor discordant that was terrorizing a village near here
  40. >You'll have to investigate that later
  41. >Right now, you're only concerned with resting
  42. >You enter your room, and hit the bed with an uncerimonious thud
  43. >You curl into a tight ball, willing yourself not to vomit as your head aches and spins
  44. >After what feels like hours, you fall mercifully unconcious
  45. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  46.
  47. *Several hours prior......*
  48. >You are Anon
  49. >A couple hours ago you woke up in the middle of a forest
  50. >Not a weird forest, just a forest like back on Earth
  51. >A quick inventory of your pockets revealed:
  52. >Your cellphone; at half battery, with the clock reading 1:37 pm
  53. >Your wallet; leather, containing not much more than a few bills, a debit card, and an I.D.
  54. >Your Swiss Army knife; never go anywhere without it
  55. >And looking at your current situation, that's probably a really good thing
  56. >Lastly, your mp3 player; Full of all the best music and fresh off the charger
  57. >Knowing the basics of outdoor survival, you know you need water before anything else
  58. >Also, civilization tends to form around water, so finding a river or a lake is probably the best chance you have to be found
  59. >Braving the limbs of a tall pine tree, you climb to get a sense of which direction you should go
  60. >In the distance, you see a ribbon of emptiness in the dense cover of trees
  61. >It's either a river or a road; both good signs
  62. >After shimmying down the tree and orienting yourself, you head off in that direction
  63. >The going is relatively easy; The forest seems to be first-growth
  64. >However, it still takes you a few hours to reach the river
  65. >The forest was cool and slightly humid, but the exertion you put out still left you parched
  66. >You emerge from the forest, and running along the river is a small dirt road, beaten flat by countless hooves
  67. >You cross it, and make your way down the bank to the river
  68. >After drinking your fill, you climb back up, and examine the road
  69. >The most recent set of hoofprints seems to be heading downstream
  70. >However, the size of the hoofprints concerns you a bit
  71. >Judging from the size, it looks like whatever made these is about four feet tall
  72. >They look like horse tracks, and there are no human tracks in sight
  73. >Whoever's riding this must be the size of a hobbit
  74. >As you walk down the trail, you absentmindedly check the time
  75. >1:37 pm
  76. >Okay
  77. >....
  78. >Wait
  79. >You check again
  80. >Sure enough, it reads 1:37 pm
  81. >Meaning that entire trip took less than a minute
  82. >You pull out your mp3
  83. >It seems to be working fine
  84. >Bizzare
  85. >You pocket your gadgets, and continue walking
  86. >After about 20 minutes, you hear something like laughter coming from the trail ahead
  87. >You pick up your pace; If there are people there, you don't want to miss them
  88. >As you get closer, you hear conversation
  89. Hello?
  90. >You shout, because you still can't see anyone
  91. Hey, I'm lost, and could use some help!
  92. >You continue walking, and round a corner to see two small horses
  93. >At least, you think they're horses
  94. >They kinda look like goats, too
  95. >One's mint green, and the other is a pale purple color
  96. >What the fuck?
  97. >Their owners must be around here somewhere, but you can't hear them anymore
  98. >Both of the horse-things are eyeing you nervously
  99. >You crouch down, and extend your hand so they can smell it
  100. >They don't move
  101. >In fact, they don't take their eyes off you
  102. >You stand back up
  103. It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you....
  104. >You say, in the most soothing voice you can
  105. >You're not really good at that whole 'nurturing' thing, but you can try
  106. >You walk forward tentatively with your hand outstretched, so as to pet them
  107. >Apparantly, they're not having any of this
  108. >They take off down the trail
  109. >Well, fuck
  110. >Whoever owns these horses is going to be pissed
  111. >Maybe you can catch them and bring them back?
  112. >You start running after them
  113. >They're sticking to the trail, so you don't have to track them
  114. >And, your 6 foot gait is giving you a distinct advantage to catching up with them
  115. >However, after chasing them for maybe ten minutes, whenever you get close enough to catch them, they get a sudden burst of speed
  116. >You're exhausting rapidly, and you're extremely frustrated with these horses
  117. >You can kind of tell they're starting to tire as well, but they just won't let you catch them
  118. >After a few more minutes, a village begins to come into view ahead of you
  119. >You slow your pace; whoever owns these horses isn't THAT far from home, and you can maybe get some help corralling them
  120. >As the horses enter into town, you can hear someone shout:
  121. >'HELP! THERE'S A MONSTER TRYING TO CATCH AND EAT US!'
  122. >That makes some sense
  123. >Maybe the horses could smell the danger coming, and that's why they were so spooked?
  124. >Seems legit
  125. >And it looks like you arrived just in time to help
  126. >Maybe
  127. >Depends on how big this monster is
  128. >Okay, fine; you're going to hide like a bitch in this village
  129. >You enter the town, and see the two horses hiding behind a large, white unicorn
  130. >Wait, unicorn?
  131. >It's dressed in golden plate mail, and is eyeing you with malice
  132. >From behind the unicorn, the green horse points at you with a hoof
  133. >'There he is, officer! It's that monster that tried to eat us!'
  134. >Woah, wait, what?
  135. >Did that horse just FUCKING TALK?!?
  136. >You backpedal slightly at this new revelation, and start to explain yourself
  137. Woah, hold on here, I didn't-
  138. >The unicorn's horn starts to glow, and you feel a sharp pain in your neck
  139. >From the source of the pain, a warm numbness spreads throughout your body
  140. >Within seconds, you collapse
  141. >Unconciousness takes you soon after
  142. ------------------------------------------
  143.
  144. >You awake at a later time, on a pile of straw
  145. >You groggily open your eyes to an empty stone room with a heavy wooden door
  146. >The lack of windows prevents you from telling time by the sunlight
  147. >You check your pockets
  148. >It seems they didn't take anything
  149. >Strange
  150. >You pull out your phone and check the time
  151. >1:38 pm
  152. >God damn it, phone, you're useless
  153. >You examine the room
  154. >Pile of straw in a corner
  155. >Hole in the ground in another corner
  156. >Slot in the door for a tray
  157. >Small, barred opening in the top of the door
  158. >.....
  159. >Seems like you're in jail
  160. >Fucking sweet
  161. Hey! Anybody out there?
  162. >...
  163. >Silence
  164. >Not seeing an obvious way out, you shrug, pull out your mp3, plug your earbuds in, and attempt to relax
  165. >No point in worrying, right?
  166. --------------------------------------
  167.
  168. >You are Luna
  169. >Upon returning home, Celestia immediately retired to her room
  170. >You're concerned, but you're sure she'll be okay for a little while
  171. >You trust her to know if she needs help or not
  172. >Right now what has your attention is the news of a minor discordant being held in the castle prison
  173. >There must be something special about this one; normally minor discordants are left alone to do whatever
  174. >You ask the guard what happened
  175. >He says this discordant was actively hunting ponies
  176. >Which isn't entirely unheard of; occasionally large predatory beasts will pop through
  177. >However, they're usually relocated to unpopulated areas quickly
  178. >The reason this one was spared is because apparantly it tried to mimic language in such a way to lull its prey into a false sense of security
  179. >Upon hearing this, you cock an eyebrow
  180. A significant amount of intelligence would have to be required to pull something like that off
  181. >One of the guards nods, and shifts uncomfortably
  182. >'Well, if you'll pardon my speculation, I think the real reason it was captured is because they think it might be sentient.'
  183. >Now you're intrigued
  184. >If this guard is right, it will be the first time a sentient being from another plane has visited Equestria
  185. >And you may have just thrown it in a dungeon...
  186. Guard, what cell is it in?
  187. >The guard answers, and you begin to make your way down to the prisons
  188. >As you walk, you try and rationalize the situation before you
  189. >As much as you find the possibility of an intelligent being from another universe fascinating, you need to keep an objective eye on this
  190. >It really could be a clever mimic
  191. >And this being could very well be incredibly dangerous
  192. >You continue walking, steeling yourself for this encounter
  193. >But as you get closer, you begin to hear.... something
  194. >It sounds like singing
  195. >But it's unlike any singing you've ever heard before
  196. >And it's coming from the discordants cell
  197. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6e9HuSlINM
  198. >Equestrian music is, by and large, very happy
  199. >It's not entirely uncommon for an entire town to burst into joyous song for no reason other than somepony smiled a certain way
  200. >But this....
  201. >You're frozen in place, enraptured in this song
  202. >This song tells a story
  203. >A DEEP, MEANINGFUL story
  204. >A story of love, which you're accustomed to
  205. >But also of loss, searing and painful
  206. >You listen to the words wafting from the prison cell, and your eyes water
  207. >The voice itself cracks and breaks occasionally from some disuse, but the tone, melody and lyrics combine in such a way so as to produce a medly of raw, heartbreaking beauty
  208. >'All the love gone bad, turned my world to black...'
  209. >'Tattooed all I see...'
  210. >'All that I am...'
  211. >'All that I'll beeeee~~~...'
  212. >Wide-eyed, you fall sideways into the stone wall and let the words wash over you
  213. >You've never had something as simple as a song touch you in such an emotional way before
  214. >It seems he's not done yet
  215. >You're sure it's a 'he', not an 'it'
  216. >'I know someday you'll have a beautiful life...'
  217. >'I know you'll be a sun...'
  218. >'In somebody else's sky, but why.. why...'
  219. >'Why... can't it be....'
  220. >'Oh, can't it be~ mine?'
  221. >You clench your eyes tightly as you begin to sob, occasional tears etching dark streaks in the fur of your face
  222. >Any questions about this creature's sentience is washed from your mind
  223. >That level of emotion just isn't seen in animals
  224. >But that doesn't mean he's not dangerous
  225. >You take a few deep breaths to settle yourself
  226. >Meanwhile, the discordant seems to be winding down his song
  227. >'Doodoodoo-doo-doodoo-doooo...'
  228. >Regaining a sembalance of your composure, you knock softly on the door
  229. >The discordant continues singing, either not noticing or ignoring you
  230. >You knock louder
  231. >'Huh? What?'
  232. >'Is someone there?'
  233. >You exhale quickly in anticipation
  234. Yes. Hello.
  235. >You didn't think this far ahead
  236. >What do you ask him?
  237. >Luckily for you, he takes the initiative
  238. >'Hello, yourself. If I might ask, why am I in a prison cell?'
  239. >He seems to be polite
  240. >And he knows where he is
  241. >So he's intelligent
  242. From what I understand, you were trying to catch ponies to eat them
  243. >A slight pause from behind the door
  244. >'Oh. Well, as I was trying to explain to the.... unicorn that knocked me out, I wasn't trying to eat them.'
  245. So what were you trying to do by chasing them back home?
  246. >He goes on to explain that he woke up in a forest, and was looking for signs of civilization
  247. >Apparantly, on his world, ponies (or goats, or horses, or horse-goats; He seemed to refer to ponies by any of these names) are beasts of burden
  248. >As such, he thought he was going to get into trouble for scaring someone's livestock off, and tried to catch them to bring them back
  249. >He claimed to not know ponies were intelligent, or capable of speech
  250. So, once you found out ponies were intelligent, why didn't you explain yourself?
  251. >'I tried, but this fucking.... unicorn.... knocked me out before I could.'
  252. >He pauses slightly
  253. >'That was a unicorn, wasn't it? I'm not just tripping on something, right?'
  254. >You explain the four breeds of ponies to him
  255. >'Oh, okay. And, are they supposed to be all different colors? I've never seen a green horse before today.'
  256. Your species is all a uniform color?
  257. >'Well, no, but.....'
  258. >He's silent for a second
  259. >'Good point, I suppose.'
  260. >'What's your name, anyway?'
  261. >You debate what to tell him
  262. >Your full title might intimidate him
  263. >And, despite everything you've heard about strange beings being dangerous, you can't help but like this creature
  264. You can call me Luna
  265. >'Luna, huh? Well, my name's Anonymous, but you can call me Anon.'
  266. >'I'd shake your hand and introduce myself formally, but, you know... The whole imprisonment thing.'
  267. >He chuckles
  268. >You giggle
  269. >Despite being mistreated, he doesn't seem openly bitter about it
  270. >And with that, your mind is made up
  271. Well, it was nice meeting you, Anon, but right now I need to go have a discussion with a few ponies.'
  272. >1'Well, if you need me, you know where to find me.'
  273. >He laughs
  274. >'But seriously, if you could tell someone that this was a huge misunderstanding and to let me out, I'd appreciate it. The prospect of sleeping on hay and shitting in a hole don't seem very appealing to me.'
  275. >You cringe slightly; That doesn't sound fun
  276. I'll see what I can do
  277. >With that, you run up the stairs, winding through the halls and into your father's bedroom
  278. >He's awake, but only just, and is sitting at his personal table enjoying a bit of breakfast
  279. >He sees you, and smiles
  280. >'Good morning, daughter! I was beginning to worry about you and Celestia when you didn't send any word.'
  281. >You laugh nervously
  282. Yeah, about that....
  283. >You then tell him about what happened yesterday, with Sombra, the Crystal Empire, and the army of ponies
  284. >He looks at you, concerned
  285. >You then go on to tell him about your and Celestia's actions, resulting in the disappearance of the Crystal Empire, but the salvation of Equestria
  286. >After a brief silence, he says:
  287. >'Well, I'm not pleased with the manner in which you went about it....'
  288. >You look at the ground, slightly ashamed
  289. >'.... I am grateful you dispatched that problem before it got out of hoof.'
  290. >You look back up, and he's smiling
  291. >'And I'm also glad you're both okay.'
  292. >He may be the king, but he's also your father
  293. >And he tends to worry more than he should
  294. >Which, in all honesty, makes this kind of a long shot....
  295. Father, the reason why I sought you out this morning is actually in regards to the Minor Discordant in the prison
  296. >He puts on an exasperated look rather quickly
  297. >'Ah yes, that. I'm not sure what to do with it.'
  298. It's a 'he', Father
  299. >He looks at you, concerned
  300. >'How do you know that?'
  301. >You go on to explain to him that once you arrived back at the castle today, you heard of the Discordant
  302. >You investigated it yourself, and after much thought you've concluded that he's sentient, intelligent, and confused as to where he is
  303. >You ask as to what's going to become of him
  304. >'Oh, well, I figured we would just ship him off to parts unknown, like we do with the other dangerous Discordants.'
  305. But he's not dangerous, Father!
  306. >You don't know that for certain, but you're willing to take a chance on it
  307. >There's just something about him.....
  308. >You don't know what it is, but you want to know more about him
  309. >But your Father is still skeptical
  310. >'You're SURE he's not dangerous? How can you know for certain?'
  311. >That's a good point
  312. Well, he seemed really level-headed for someone that was just imprisoned
  313. Even if he is dangerous, I don't think he's a threat to us
  314. >He looks like he's considering it
  315. And besides, Celestia and I are your two best warriors
  316. If anything happens, we'll be here to handle him
  317. >He appears to be deep in thought
  318. >After what seems like forever, he finally says:
  319. >'Go tell the guards to let the Discordant out. He may stay in the castle, so we can learn his culture and more about him.'
  320. >'However, it's up to you to keep an eye on him; You will be blamed for any trouble he gets in.'
  321. >So he's making Anon your pet
  322. >Well, it's better than nothing
  323. >You nod quickly, and exit the room
  324. >As soon as you're out of his line of sight, you begin beaming like mad
  325. >You quickly trot to the jailer's office, smiling wide the entire way
  326. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  327.
  328. >You are Anon
  329. >Still in your prison cell
  330. >You slept for a bit, listened to music for a bit...
  331. >Honestly, fucking nothing has happened to you for the past...
  332. >You check your phone
  333. >1:39 pm
  334. >.....Full minute
  335. >Well, not ENTIRELY nothing
  336. >You had a pleasant chat with a mysterious voice from the other side of your cell door
  337. >She said her name was Luna
  338. >And then she ran off
  339. >You begin pacing in your cell
  340. >You've been in here for a while, and you're starting to go a little stir-crazy
  341. >While thinking about that conversation
  342. >Who is she, and why does she care?
  343. >You're assuming she's a horse, but...
  344. >Your thoughts are interrupted by your cell door opening
  345. >In walks a purple... alicorn, you think
  346. >Whatever the one with wings and a horn is
  347. >It looks feminine, though
  348. >She's wearing a small tiara, and what appears to be ornamental armor
  349. >She turns to you, and smiles
  350. >'Hello, Anonymous. I'm here to let you out.'
  351. >That seemed out of the blue
  352. O-okay? Thank you!
  353. >A thought hits you
  354. Uhm... Did Luna send you?
  355. >She chuckles
  356. >'You could say that.'
  357. >'My name is Princess Tsuki De'Lune, Second Child to the Throne of Andromidae, Noble Heir to the Title of Master Warcraft
  358. >She closes her eyes, and beams at you
  359. >'And I'll take that handshake now'
  360. >She looks puzzled
  361. >'As soon as you tell me what a handshake is.'
