- ‘The Merchant’
- Role in Story:
- Initial NPC the player encounters on the road to The Reach - key ‘exposition dropper’ giving background on the political climate in the area.
- Occupation:
- Merchant - but specify what kind. It should be something that takes him all over the Empire, and ex-empire states.
- Physical Description:
- Small and weedy
- Personality:
- Not ‘obsequious’ - but deferential to his clients, a skilled merchant for a mostly feudal civilisation - constantly up-selling wares to everyone in a manner bordering on ‘aggressive’. (I’m actually imagining him a lot like Quark from Deep Space 9)
- Welcoming and jolly, engages in banter with his clients, but with the omnipresent motive to make enough money that he can keep moving by.
- Habits/Mannerisms:
- Consummate optimist - always looks on the bright side, acts as counterbalance to what experienced in reach.

- {You could tell me where I can get more work.}
- Ha, bit cheeky aint it? Reward your work with even more work! Well, If you're keen.
- Got the Imperials right behind you, right where that grey tower sits between the rivers. Always have errands on hand.
- {Not on the Imperial's good side, anything else?}
- Give us a moment, let me rummage through these pockets... Uh huh!
- Bit soiled but still legible, the lord of this town is looking for bounty hunters it seems. Not the safest line of work, mind you...
- {The Orcs knew of the plans to sack their new city, to protect the trade route, which the merchants tried to orchestrate.}
- Ha! Orcs can't even tell left from right, how would these savages have any knowledge of trade? Even if that were true, my friend, how does that explain the peasants running amok?
- What on nirn does THAT have to do with us merchants earning an honest living?
- [Success] A lot of hot air, knight. It's all for naught however, plans are already well underway for the merchants ascent.
- Soon, this old order of decrepit royalty will fade, or burn. The people will beg for new shephards, and who better to take up that mantle than those who control coin.
- You're of the inquisitive sort, and your actions within this realm have served many interests beyond you know. For that, I'll forgive your outburst - hop on the cart and say goodbye to this ill fated kingdom.
- {No, I'd rather walk}
- So be it friend, not much one can do against the tide - except watch it swallow all who refused to move.
- Cheers for all your help!
