PERSONALITY :
- RECLUSE - to the average person, ki yeju seems like nothing more than a hermit. she's quiet, always hiding in the background, and prefers not to be seen. she's the definition of a wallflower -- having only two or three close friends, preferring to stay in than go out and party, valuing her grades over the "high school experience" -- and with her whole emo facade, it's not hard to come to the assumption that she hates everyone around her, and is a recluse.
- SNARKY - the more you get to know her, though, the more obvious it gets that just believing she is nothing more than a nerd is wrong. as cheesy as it sounds, yeju is like an onion; she has many layers, and the more you pull back, the more vulnerable she gets. the most striking of her traits is how snarky she is. she uses sarcasm like its a weapon, and isn't afraid to cuss anyone out. she's very crass, and  most definitely not the ideal woman that korean society has deemed acceptable (although, she is very cute.) yeju is the type of girl who will bite your head off if you even so much as look at her in the wrong way.
- HEADSTRONG - yeju might as well have a rock for a head with how headstrong she is. she oozes stubbornness, and if something isn't going the way she believes it should, she'll intervene without any fear. this particular trait does get her into hot water on a few occasions, but its also something that those around her secretly admire -- how she isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and won't back down if she thinks something isn't right.
- CARING - despite how out there she can be, though, ki yeju is actually extremely caring. she loves her friends and those close to her more than anything in the world, and is willing to do quite literally anything for them. she can't stand to see them hurting, or anyone else for that matter. she wanted to help people, which is why she went into medicine. she might not seem like it, but everything she does is done while thinking of those who matter the most to her. yeju is very careful about the things she says to the people around her because she doesn't want to unintentionally say something she doesn't mean, and she has a way of making people feel at ease. she's a wonderful person to go to for advice, and she can make you feel light, as if you don't have any problems after just one conversation.
- INSECURE - underneath it all, though, yeju is a just a girl who wants to be loved. although she grew up in a house with a wonderful family, better than anything she could ever ask for, she isn't the most... self-assured. after going through high school, where nobody ever saw here as more than "that emo girl," she doesn't know how to feel secure about herself. it's toned down since then, of course, and as a fully functioning adult she knows how to handle herself, but sometimes she just gets hit with those feelings -- that she's not pretty enough, or nice enough, and of course she always manages to link it back to jeongguk and their "relationship" in high school.

BACKGROUND :
- born and raised in goyang, korea, yeju grew up as a part of an extremely tight knit family. the ki's were the type who were very friendly and always open about their business, hanging out with their close family friends almost all the time. one family that they were close to, because of yeju's mother, were the jeon's -- a family that, not only was best friends with the ki's, but also just so happened to live right next door to them. as a result, she grew up as (sort of) friends with their youngest son, who was her age: jeongguk. from the age of four, the two of them were close, always either playing peacefully or messing with the other, playing pranks and whatnot. they fought a lot, endearingly of course, but since there was never anyone else to play with, they managed to set aside their differences and grow closer.
- as time passed, they matured and grew apart a bit. high school came along, and jeongguk became popular and well known throughout the school, while yeju was just... there, always studying, always waiting for the next grade. he was always surrounded by so many people, while she stuck to her small group of a few friends. of course, they still talked -- which was usually just jeongguk randomly approaching her and teasing her about her dedication to school or ruffling her hair playfully or something, to which he would earn a slap from her. people couldn't understand how exactly they even got to the point of talking to each other, and jeongguk and yeju would always laugh when someone looked at them like aliens had come to earth.

RELATIONSHIP :
- despite having SO many friends and knowing practically everyone in the school (plus having them bow at his feet) jeongguk never did actually get a girlfriend. his family were very pushy about it, especially his mother, and they were always asking whether or not there was someone he liked. he always said no to these types of conversation and got very annoyed, because he didn't want to date anyone, but one day his mother sets him up on some sort of a blind date and he just snaps. he gets very angry and some words are exchanged and one thing leads to another and whoops he's accidentally told everyone that he's dating yeju, so they can kindly fuck off. when she finds out what he told people, he begs her to go along with it -- because he can't deal with his mother anymore, and reluctantly, she agrees.
- so there they are, dating and all, and they actually realize that they have common interests, and slowly they start to get closer to each other. sure, they still pull pranks on each other, and hit each other, and all that, but they also joke around and have movie nights in and go on dates (as friends, but to keep up the fake dating charade) and before they know it, the end of high school has approached. the two of them are going off to different colleges, and they still have their fake relationship going on. until yeju realizes that, oh shit, she actually kind of loves him. when she's hit with that realization, she FREAKS out, and breaks it off immediately, using the excuse that they'll be too far away, and whats the point in pretending anymore. he can see right through it, of course, but he misinterprets her feelings for him, and comes to the conclusion that she never liked him like that. unfortunately, he too has fallen in love with her, and he regrets that he never got to tell her. the two of them are hurt by the way things ended, even though they were pretending, and somehow cut off all connection between them for ten years... jeongguk tries to date other people to get over yeju but it doesn't work, and yeju throws herself even further into her studies to get away from the thought of him.

REUNION :
- jeongguk and yeju actually meet each other once again a few weeks before the high school reunion. yeju had just been accepted into an internal medicine residency, fresh out of medical school, and she was very excited because it was one step closer to her dream of being a cardiologist. of course, when she showed up on the first day only to find that jeongguk had been chosen for the same exact residency she wanted to cry. she had done literally EVERYTHING she could to avoid him for ten years, and then suddenly it was all ruined. what made it even worse was that since then, she still had feelings for him. jeongguk, on the other hand, couldn't believe he was actually seeing yeju once again. he was still very much in love with her too, but when she broke off their relationship after high school, he thought it was because she didn't like him like that, which is why he doesn't push her at all for that kind of relationship. instead, he goes back to teasing her and messing with her, like he did when they were little.
- yeju showed up at the reunion after much pushing from one of her close friends from high school, KIM TAEHYUNG's EX, but did so begrudgingly. honestly she only agreed because she didn't think there was a chance in any fresh hell that jeongguk would actually be caught at a high school reunion, and her solace was that at least she could get a break from seeing his face at work. but when she finds him there in the flesh, she wants to die (and kill everyone around her) especially because he looks so good, not knowing that he was thinking the same exact thing.

STATUS :
