  1. The Venetian Chronicles: Skye Thornwise
  2. Skye: (Masterfully assembles the camera before mounting it on a tripod, soon adjusting the focus on the camera to get her chair in perfect focus.) Go ahead and start.
  3.
  4. Yuuko: This is Council envoy Yuuko Shirakawa, Agent of the Dragon, and Historian for the Archives in Dublin Ireland. As part of the Chronicles initiative, I am interviewing active agents from the 21st century so that future generations may better understand the context in which events are taking place. This session is being recorded on 01/31/17 in Ealdwic, London, in a rented room in the Tabula Rasa.
  5.
  6. Yuuko: Could you please state your full name, date of birth, affiliation and rank.
  7. Skye: Skye “GreytideSkye” Thornwise, 1990, Chief Requisitions Officer for The Toolbox, a blue subdivision.
  8.
  9. Yukko: Can you tell us about your family?
  10. Skye: The Toolbox, we do what we must, because we can. We fight together, laugh together, cry alone in our own corners, then get back together and do dark and sinister deeds for the greater good.
  11.
  12. Yuuko: Where did you grow up?
  13. Skye: “Grow up” is such a strong term. Before here, I worked on a Plasma Research Station for Nanotrasen. Several stations... when you’re researching a new compound that’s stable at room temperature as both a solid, liquid and gas, and is very flammable... stations don’t tend to last that long.
  14.
  15. Yuuko: How would you describe your, ah, work there?
  16. Skye: Very chaotic. I worked as a Station Assistant, which means that I had no access and no responsibility. We’re practically expected to break into departments who are underperforming and help them out. Or overperforming. Really, we’re just expected to break into places on the station for no raisins.
  17.
  18. Yuuko: How were you first introduced to the secret world?
  19. Skye: I was stung in my apartment shortly after [REDACTED] (Editor’s note: I keep trying to type what she said, but every time I finish the sentence, the words vanish from my computer and my screen turns a shade darker. Needless to say, it was a violent and surprisingly humane act.)
  20.
  21. Yuuko: Did you have any contact (either directly or indirectly) with your society before your powers awakened?
  22. Skye: I didn’t know it at the time, but the only reason I was in a position to [REDACTED] (See above, same event) the Dragon spy was because I had accidentally grabbed the wrong satchel and managed to walk away with [REDACTED] (She says it was just a bunch of lunches, but apparently I’m not allowed to tell you what kind of lunches or how many?) instead of my tools and laptop.
  23.
  24. Skye: So this guy in a blue jacket’s chasing me, I’m running just out of instinct, I get enough distance to draw my crowbar, he stops a good distance away, draws his gun, so I’m charging him, using the satchel as cover, hoping he wants the satchel intact more than he wants me dead, but he’s shooting past me and yelling at me to get down? I keep charging past him, some green-clad guy tries to take the bag, but I have my crowbar in my hand at this point. [REDACTED] (I didn’t even try to type this portion out. It’s getting hard to see my screen.) So they let me keep the guy’s gloves, jacket, and cash, took his ID and the rest of the wallet, had me wash the crowbar twice, and put me on the Promising list.
  25.
  26. Yuuko: Can you tell us what a normal day looks like for you?
  27. Skye: I wake up, usually in my bed. If my toolbelt’s not around my waist, then that’s the first thing I put on. Rest of the morning’s not really routine, but once I’m out and on duty, I’m instantly on-call to get anything and everything someone in the org could need. I break into Home Depot through the ancient art of using the front door during business hours, and steal everything people want through the secret techniques of cash or credit. From there, if it needs to be couriered, I send it out, but usually it’s just hand-delivered.
  28.
  29. Field work, that’s... that’s just typical field work. Get told to join a squad and kill a thing, and then join that squad and kill that thing. After all is said and done, I usually relax at the Horned God with whichever of my friends are there. If you’ve ever been offered the grapefruit beer or liquour there, I’m the main reason they keep it in stock.
  30.
  31. Yuuko: Has your work for your society ever brought you into contact with anyone who would be considered historically significant (world leaders, celebrities, scientist and engineers.)
  32. Skye: Matter of fact, I’ve gotten to meet the MTV sensation Ennui Adjani, once or twice. She’s nice. Likes privacy.
  33.
  34. Yuuko: Have you ever seen an event reported in the media and known that it was a lie and if so can you tell us what really happened?
  35. Skye: I tell you, literally none of the folk implicated in the Tokyo bomb are actually the ones who did it. Redacted. (Editor’s note, she literally said the word “redacted” out loud.)
  36.
  37. Yuuko: What was the last event you can remember that shook both the secret world and the mundane equally?
  38. Skye: Geez... Oh, there were some teens in Tennessee who went missing, and reports of werewolf attacks. Turns out, the teens WERE the wolves. They’re all safe, getting care, and so on, of course, but man... that’s six pairs of parents worried to death, who probably aren’t going to see their kids again even if they do get notified that they’re alive.
  39.
  40. Yuuko: Have you ever participated in an event considered historically important to the mundane world and if so was it on behalf of your society
  41. Skye: I mayyyyy have accidentally caused a tsunami when landing in the Atlantic.
  42.
  43. Yuuko: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us, agent Thornwise.
  44. Skye: That’s Chief Requsitions Officer Thornwise. No point in having a title if you can’t correct people on it, y’know? This has been a lot of fun. Love your paper, love you, hate birds, and love your readers. Take care and don’t drown!
