  1. So was just having a discussion about older anime with a friend roughly 10 younger than I. He was talking about how he hasn't watched many "Classics".
  2.
  3. Code Geass came up and I mentioned it was one I wasn't super into. This is when I had the realization that Code Geass and Death Note anime were out around the same time and that there was a real trend towards controlling and having power over people in anime around that time.
  4.
  5. This was also the era of chuunibyou anime. Not what came later which was anime about being a chuunibyou. That might have been authors looking back at their former selves or something written for a slightly older audience looking back at themselves. Would retrospect eb the correct term here.
  6.
  7. This "High Schoolers with Super Powers" really werent high schoolers. Most are in fact middle schoolers. I mistook this because in most cases they act like high schoolers. When you realize they're middle schoolers the stories literally make no sense. In many cases they wouldn't have that level emotional development yet.
  8.
  9. Now is this because the authors dont remember whats its really like to be a middle schooler, I truthfully don't. Really seems like in normal modern conditions you have little to worry about. Looking back now its little different from elementary school but you have more freedoms. It could be because that is when they themselves were chuunibyou. Or is this because that is their target audience. As for why they act older, could be because acting like a little kid is really annoying or because is seems like kids always want to be and try and act more mature than they actually are?
  10.
  11. I feel like the superpowers anime turned into isekai for the most part. But if you notice this went from group of friends or people that became friends to usually one person with maybe a childhood friend. Or say they do gain travelers in most cases they characters are not all that developed are just with them. Does this reflect Japanese society? Remember they're writing this from their own experiences and/or for a demographic. What shifted from the I want to be here with super powers to the I want to go some place else and start over. Many of those places also have different rules to Japanese Society. Is this a thing showing oppression or being held back? When it comes to the travelers it just having some with you enough since you dont have that in life already?
  12.
  13. Something like Mushoku Tensei might even show this shift within Isekai since its and earlier source to something say 10 years newer. This trend might have already been showing in the chuunibyou towards the end as well.
  14.
  15. Isekai are also often power fantasy anime. I imagine this is helping people fulfill something they cant actually do themselves in real life? If they're doing this they wouldn't also want to think about to deal with real life problems. Or if they do they want to basically ignore or skip right though them.
