Barbarian Millennia

Barbarian Millennia is a webcomic that falls into a genre (I like to call) Sword and Super Science. Not necessarily Science Fantasy like Star Wars or Heavy Metal L-Gaim but instead takes the tropes, archetypes, post apocalyptic nature seen in Sword and Sorcery, applying them to a science fiction setting. The setting could be a number of science fiction settings such as Space Opera, Cyberspace, near future or in the case of Barbarian Millenia, cyberpunk. In the place of sorcery is super science as to not clash with the hard scifi at play.

Barbarian Millennia takes place on a fictional continent by the name of Zanistar. The old world has perished due to a cataclysm that had occured 3000 years prior to the events of the webcomic. The civilizations that have formed after the cataclysm decided to start a new millenia by the name of the Cordex Calendar. In the following 3000 years countless renaissances have taken place, producing technology at rate that has never been seen before in recorded history. Unfortunately this technology’s development has taken a turn for the grim. Megacorporations use this technology to protect and pamper the elite but harass and enslave the civilians. The megacorporation of Zanistar is one by the name of Dracos-core, once contempt with keeping to itself being a state Dracos-core has turned into an invading empire that has toppled all other states; leaving only rebel faction remnants in the wastelands.These factions rarely do any raiding but instead constantly defend their positions.

A soldier sorceress named Abella of the B.O.L.T rebel faction plans a offensive strike on a Dracos-core outpost, trying to prove her point that rebel factions can actually attack but they’re too afraid to do so. Unfortunately her rag tag group of soldiers horribly fail and when she’s about to be killed off a mysterious figure appears and kills the enemy combatants. She wakes up in the mysterious figure’s encampment, he reveals that he’s an automaton Barbarian by the name of Benior and has been living within the territory for two months.He also laments that even the soldiers stand no chance against him in combat. He’s actually become quite board with killing the soldiers and wildlife that attack him wanting something more. Abella, seeing the opportunity before her, convinces Benior to help her to siege the base. Benior is at first reluctant and states that it’ll just be like the encounters he has with the patrol groups while exploring. Benior and Abella attack the outpost and with their combined skills and manage to take it over.

While inspecting the outpost they find a person in cryogenic freeze. Abella recognizes the man by his patch as soldier of the Komusai rebel faction. Once she unfreezes him he awakens in shock,even attempting a killing blow on Benior. After Abella calms him down he reveals that he is Komusai Ninja Spec Operative Code-named Wendigo. He was captured while doing recon and put in cryogenic freeze by the D.C soldiers. Though Abella and Benior notice that his speech patterns are erratic they figure out he is good in intention and holds no ill will towards them. Elated with their successful take over she phones in her C.O and tells him about the victory. Once they meet on the outpost to confirm her takeover she immediately pushes a direct assault on the capitol. Her C.O still shoots down the idea but instead presents her with a new one, if she can expand their territory by taking over new bases and once it gets to a large enough size B.O.L.T will launch an offensive campaign.

Now the three warriors have banded together to collapse outpost after outpost, stronghold after stronghold, territory after territory till B.O.L.T can finally launch an military campaign. Abella for the sake of her faction, Benior to fulfil his thirst for adventure and Wendigo to recover his lost squad-mates and regain contact with Komusai.
