  1. Sure. Celeste has an assist mode as well, and it is never forced upon the player. When assist mode is active it gives you additional menu options to lower the game speed in 10% increments, give infinite stamina when gripping to walls, doubling your air dash count or making them infinite, invincibility, and even just outright level skip.

  3. Now, I don't actually fully agree with the presentation. People have reminded me that specifically telling players "this is not the intended way to play" instead of leaving that off and saying "everyone's needs are different, and these options are here if you need them" (Celeste does both) creates an othering affect to unnecessarily shame the player.

  5. You may be thinking "those just take the challenge away!" and for you or me it likely would. But the options aren't there for us. Accessibility is about presenting additional options to remove barriers of access and empower those with certain disabilities to actually get the intended experience. There are so many people out there that even with many of these settings turned on, the game will still be just as challenging if not still more than it is for an able-bodied player. That specific level of challenge is the "intended" game experience, and the default settings are configured around that. Control of that experience needs to be given to many players for them to even have a chance at that experience, or to complete the game at all.
